Article: Twins 4, San Francisco 0: Superman Santana
T_J replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Are we almost finished with the Gimeniz era? Cool, he can mop up an inning. With no actual stats that I looked at, it just seems like when Castro is catching, the team pitchers are better. -
I wasn't ever really a Grossman fan till the last few weeks. There was just something about him that bugged me. Like a thrombosed hemorrhoid, he has grown on me though. He's actually pretty fun to watch.

Article: Ervin Santana: To Trade Or Not To Trade?
T_J replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't get why it's so unreasonable to try to improve the current roster and be buyers. It seems everyone is set on trying to make some sort of super team that's capable of going 162-0. I'm not saying to clear out the farm here but, as it stands right now, the prospects they have are not really that great. The system is about to get restocked with the draft. The number one prospect isn't even in the system yet. Probably the #4 and #8 too! There is some dead weight on the 25 man that really wouldn't take too much to improve. The lineup is doing really well and the defense has been great. I say buy and not sell. -

He’s 17, and I got to interview him a couple of weeks ago. This is an impressive person. It’s an impressive body. You don’t see kids like that. I see kids all the time for the job. I don’t see many kids build like that, athletic like that, loose like that, still projectable and already throwing in the upper-90s.- 78 replies

Article: Early 2017 Draft Prospects
T_J replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
There is no way the the Falvey. Is going to come in an blow the entire thing up in his first season. I have been in the military and also worked for major fortune 500 companies and when new leadership come in the direction take shape over time. New leadership has to use the existing infrastructure for the initial push into a new direction for a smooth transition. Most people get it, it's business, but they are still people. On top of that, there is severance to prepare budgets to plan more people to hire departments close and departments open. He is going to have to review performances. He is going to have so much to do plus his current team is working on a World Series and if they get far, he is going to have even less time to a house cleaning. The team turnaround is not going to be all that long, they should be in a position to play October baseball in three years. Let's let it all play out over the next full season and see the direction this guy goes. A major business transaction is not easy, I have been working for a major company that has done it successfully so far and when you are working through it, you just have to buy into it, and trust that the person they hired is capable to pull it off. End of rant.- 69 replies

T_J replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm going to be shouting Hunter Greene all the way to draft day. He has potential to be more than a staff ace, he is the only play, at this very early point, to be a yearly Cy Young candidate. 2018, Seth Beer. Just need to suck next season too, shouldn't be too hard.- 69 replies

I'm really hoping the new executive can work some magic with Stewart. I think he should be a big benefit to his career or he can flip him for something. Diaz is going to be an amazing hitter. Yeah, he is going to be an all bat prospect, but that bat will play. Gonslave, Gordon, Romero, Jay, and Kirilloff in that order than? That is a really nice top five. I would swap Diaz and Kirilloff but a very nice looking lot.

Article: Rating the Twins' Offense (in a League Without the Twins)
T_J replied to BRNZ's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If they are going to explore trading Dozier due to his current "high" value, they also need to explore moving Santana too. They can't expect a repeat of this season, nor will they see a repeat. Moving Santana must also be a priority for the Twins this offseason. I don't see the huge returns for Dozier that other see, but I hope(As my dad always said, put hope in one and and **** in the other and see which fills up first) they can get something for him. Despite his great season, he is still maybe the 10th best second baseman in baseball. In this day and age, most GMs will not be wooed by a single season of great hitting. They will see the decline in defense too. I don't think most teams would even have him playing second. There is no quick fix for this current team. They need to gather as many aa/high a arms as possible and hope they pan out on an express level. That's why they should try to get for Dozier and Santana. They will have to cross their fingers and hope that the new front office has a better plan in place to produce better pitchers. -
I think the defense will be on the up-swing next season as the younger players get more time. The outfield could be outstanding. If we somehow flip Dozier that leave second to Polanco and Escobar at short to start the season. Mauer at first is doing just fine. Third would be the only question mark and if this is what we rolled out opening day for defense, we could roll with a weak fielding third baseman. If we don't flip Dozier(I can't see us finding a proper trade partner unless we accept the fact that is value isn't really all that high) we will continue be weak up in the infield for the time being. Some very slick fielding Shortstops in the minors. Now, they will just need to find a couple of pitchers that can actually pitch...

Does Top Pick Territory Salvage Season?
T_J commented on Ted Schwerzler 's blog entry in Off The Baggy
Harper and Strasburg were both very hot topics long before the draft. Especially Harper. -
I really don't think Jay fits on this list. It's like "one of these things isn't like the others."

I am not a great Blue Jays mind. How has/did he do with prospect development? Where there any farm to fork prospects? Was Syndergaard befitted more by the Mets or Blue Jays? -
Article: Thoughts On Brian Dozier
T_J replied to stringer bell's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The mass amounts of quality 2nd basemen this off season-not based on historic trades- plus the glut of quality starting pitching in free agency means that Dozier is not nearly as valuable as you think he is this off season. No rational thinking baseball executive would part with a front line starter or even a cusp type with high projections. Not without getting some high end prospects back. Duffey, May, Stewart are not going to sweeten anything. As they stand right now-this off season- they have little to no value. We are talking Gordon. Diaz, Gonslaves, Jay, Romero types and that might bring one front end starter with Dozier added in. Basically, Dozier will be a Minnesota Twin come next season and I am fine with that. He is having a great season and is a solid player. He just isn't that much better than what other teams already have as in-house options. -
Article: Thoughts On Brian Dozier
T_J replied to stringer bell's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think you're missing the point. I am saying that Dozier-by himself- will not bring in an ace or even cusp prospects that project as front of the rotation starters. If the Twins want to get those types, Dozier will not be a centerpiece in the trade. He might be involved, but to get those types of pitchers, you need to send back prospects. That's why it will have to be a three team type trade. -
Article: Thoughts On Brian Dozier
T_J replied to stringer bell's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This is the reason why an impact trade won't happen with BD as the centerpiece. He is a fine player, but not the best 2nd basemen. And how much better is he than other teams internal options that would have them make a move for an impact starting pitcher? It's so easy to say " yeah, trade him for an ace" but that it's reasonable. Same thing with E. Santana, why would a team flip 1/2 potential prospects on the cusp for him? It's just not going to happen. There is no way we would get even close to what we would deem fair value for these guys- it's not reasonable thinking. Realistic thinking would be use in a three team trade were we flip some of our high end hitting prospects for some other teams higher end pitching prospects while sprinkling in a little Dozier and a splash of E. Santana. -

I think the first couple of weeks are going to be a touch rough at the plate. After that, he is going to strive. He as started slowly at every level and once he got comfortable, he did fine. 289/343/445. Folks, this is a superstar in the making. It's time to believe in the hype. -

Article: Twins, Rockies Talk Tulowitzki
T_J replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I love Tulo, I really do. I just can't see making a trade for in though. He is just hurt too much. There is no way I would move Gibson or Berrios. Another thing, Why do I keep reading that Berrios is too short to be an ace? He is six feet tall. We are talking about a major league pitcher right? Not a small forward. Plenty, I mean literally thousands of pitchers have been just fine playing at that height. Some of them have even been called aces. Some of them have even been called Hall Of Famers. Find something real to knock about him if you don't like him, but his height, really trying to stretch the criticism on that one. -

Thanks for that link, but according the study from that link the conclusion is CONCLUSION Home Run Derby curse, fact or fiction? We have no choice but to conclude that it’s fiction. If we consider all the ways that the statistics should behave if there is no curse, we find that they consistently match that model. Certainly, some players will have a decline in power-hitting statistics from the first half of the season to the second after participating in the Derby, but it is clear from the analysis that this would have occurred for those players regardless of whether they chose to participate or not. http://sabr.org/research/home-run-derby-curse-fact-or-fiction That is the study that the article based off of. -

T_J replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would love to actually see some stats that back up this statement. It seems to only be something that effects Twins players that participate. He only batted one round. Just saying that it might just be wear and tear rather than a few swings one night.
