  1. Perhaps he has tried, but that is just not the type of hitter he is or can be. Perception is one thing, actuality is another. Sometimes they are the same, but unless you know for sure, and I suspect you don't, then I think your dislike is misplaced. If your perception is true, then it's still up to the manager to bat him in the appropriate place, and that's not what happens. If he won't or can't adjust, then the manager is wrong to continue batting him there. Period. And I think your dislike of Joe for that is still misplaced, with all due respect.
  2. If Mauer is disliked by fans for batting 3rd, then their dislike is misplaced.
  3. Oh I'm sure. But I want to check out them riding the subways. I hope they did it during rush hour because that's the only way to truly experience the Tokyo subways.
  4. I've been to Tokyo. I'll have to check it out to see how my experience compares.
  5. So did you watch the first episode?
  6. Where are you from? I thought you were a Twin Citian.
  7. Yes. And the forecast in the OP says that the percent chance of rain increases throughout the game.
  8. Those weren't dumb reasons for getting detention. Those were dumb actions that earned you detention. Subtle difference I know.
  9. I didn't watch the show and I only half-heartedly followed the discussion here, but found this an interesting read: http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/01/25/dead-certainty?mbid=social_facebook_aud_dev_kwjulsub-dead-certainty&kwp_0=196496&kwp_4=768796&kwp_1=386166
  10. Yeah, but those same guys likely did the mechanical safety check on yours.
  11. Actually, no. Good old public school. But non ruler raps on the navicular bone.
  12. I find that so shocking. <yaaaaawn>
  13. I got in minor trouble doing other things. Ask my hs chemistry teacher about that. But I never got detention for anything because I was usually the best student and he knew my parents.
  14. For not having a book cover on my geography book in the 8th grade.
  15. My dad is 90. He doesn't look it to see him sitting there. Standing is difficult for him. If anyone dared give him crap for that, they'd go home with less hide. This is part of the over nationalistic stuff that I abhor. The assumptions that you are less patriotic because of appearances. And that people think so better of themselves to judge you so without knowing a damn thing about who they are. It's become so forced ... do it exactly this way or you aren't patriotic. That is NOT national pride ... that's national embarrassment.
  16. I remember back in the 80s going to a U of M men's hockey team vs the US Olympic hockey team game. Only 'real' hockey game I've ever been to. That was before the pros were allowed to play and 3 or 4 players on the US team were recruited off the U of M team. Was a very fun scrimmage.
  17. Lol, scandalous song in high school in my day was My Sharona.
  18. Heh, Color My World in Jr. High, but my Sr. prom theme was Saturday In the Park. Guess Chicago gave me some subconscious direction to where I ended up in life.
  19. There's the loser of the game, and then there's the loser who just does it with no tetherball involved.
  20. We had hamburger gravy on mashed potatoes. Good times. Yah.
  21. And, this is really going to blow up this thread, taking it way off the rails, but the Olympics are over ... I think the singing of the National Anthem is overdone, too. Don't get me wrong, when I moved back to the States after living in Canada, the first time I had the opportunity to sing the NA at an event, I teared up, truly. Because I was home and really felt it more than ever at that moment and it held meaning. But I think a thing loses meaning when done too often. We play the NA at work at the first concert of the season and at special events. Maybe the singing of the anthem could be curtailed a bit and sung only at the 1st game of each series and on special days, i.e. Memorial Day and the Fourth of July. And I, personally, would like to see less 'concertizing' and more encouraging of the crowds to participate.
  22. Um, yeah, when it was a first-run movie in a theatre. Don't remember much about it, though.
  23. I was thinking more along the lines of daycare provider.
  24. I can assure you that I don't wear them for anyone's entertainment but my own. And that sounded weird. But I meant for exercise and comfort.
