    Did Buxton just get on base? Is this real life?

    Man, these Royals hitters sure love the low pitch. Nearly every Royal's hit has been in the bottom third- or even lower- of the zone. EDIT: I went back on gameday- 7 out of 9 Royals hits through 8 innings today were in the bottom third or lower. Only Mous' single in the 4th and Escobar's double in the 5th were middle or higher.

    For the record I hated the Buxton pick at the time. I wanted Gausman. I thought I was going to be wrong about him circa, 2014. I just don't like "toolsy" high school outfielders. They are generally labeled as toolsy because their hit tools are underdeveloped relative to their athleticism.

    Anybody watching see where that Perez HR pitch was? Gameday had it on the bottom of the strike zone. Didn't appear to be that bad of a pitch.

    Going into this at-bat Jason Castro had a .667/.889/.667 batting line with a 66.7% BB rate. He had made literally one out in 9 plate appearances.

    Actually, Santana has more value if he never plays. That's literally the definition of a below replacement level player- he is costing the team wins when he plays.

    I know it's early, but Buxton needs to be dropped to the bottom of the order. A 60% K rate in the heart of the order is rally killing.

    People are overly optimistic on Kepler. I think even the "traditional" projectors are overestimating his production. He had one of the worst batted ball profiles in baseball last year. He hits a lot of ground balls, and his line drives and flyballs were particularly weak. Andrew Perpetua's xStats (which use Statcast data) gave him an expected triple slash of .229/.300/.332 last year. His 2017 projection for Kepler is .238/.301/.362.

    I don't consider either of them "breakout stars." I don't even consider Buxton established at the ML level.
