  1. Well, compared to the rest of major professional sports, the NFL is in the stone age when it comes to statistical analysis.
  2. I don't think that's the point Mr. Brooks was making with his original post. He was saying that young, hard throwing relievers are exactly the type of relievers that most GM's and managers are preferring today, because they give them the greatest chance of getting outs- and that's precisely because their jobs are on the line. Aging, washed up vets in the pen aren't some sort of market inefficiency.
  3. Every time Jepsen blows a save, I tweet at the official Tampa Bay Rays twitter account asking if we can have Chih-Wei Hu back. I haven't gotten a reply yet...
  4. I think the key take away is that nobody's job is ever on the line at 1 Twins Way.
  5. He can't be that bad. Ba dum tsss.

  7. May and Meyer have the stuff to get swings and misses. They have the highest upside on the 40 man of anyone not named Jose Berrios. If they are able to transition to the big league rotation successfully, they are FAR more valuable to the team than in the bullpen. This team isn't going to win this year. Why not give them the chance to succeed or fail so we can figure out where they fit in our plans? If they are just going to be anointed relievers, then trading away both Span and Revere has to be viewed as a horrendous mistake. The Twins have had the 3rd LOWEST fWAR from the CF position since the beginning of 2013.
  8. I just quoted your post because it had a nice list of KC relievers. Not really agreeing or disagreeing, just wanted to do a little digging on the KC relievers.
  9. Davis had 64 starts at the major league level before being moved to the pen by the Rays, and another 24 in Kansas City. Duffy had 80 before he got moved to the pen full time this year- I also believe he had TJ surgery at some point. We all know Hochevar was a garbage starter- but the Royals gave him 128 starts before getting moved to the pen. Gee was used almost exclusively as a starter by the Mets- they gave him 110 starts w/ Mike Pelfrey-ish results. Wang is a 36 year-old, soft tossing, back-end starter with 126 starts under his belt. Meanwhile, May has had 25 career starts, and Meyer 0. And out of the 5 Royals relievers, only Duffy had comparable K% to Meyer and May.
  10. Last time I checked Wade Davis was a #5 starter at best before he was moved to the pen. That argument is a load of rubbish.
  11. Not sure why your post is scored out. But Ryan is still his boss. He can tell Molitor "use the players I give you in the way I have intended or take a hike".
  12. That's really been the the theme with this "rebuild," hasn't it? Setting up young players for failure. Rushing Hicks to the majors twice, before he was ready. Not learning the key lesson from that mistake they rushed Buxton to the majors twice, before he was ready. They've been jerking around May, Meyer, and Duffey for the past 10 calendar months. Then they move Sano to a position he has never played on the fly while he is still trying to establish himself at the major league level. Not to mention calling up Kepler and Polanco (multiple times) to sit on the bench.
  13. The majority of Ryan's decisions are of the knee-jerk variety.
  14. Cinco isn't for another week.
  15. Maybe Duffey? I don't think he went to the DL yet.
  16. I just don't see a ton of upside with the pitching staff going forward- I expect Gibson to rebound and Berrios in for Milone to be a significant improvement (although Berrios may struggle with the transition, initially), but Hughes is right at about were I expect him and Santana and Nolasco have overperformed at this point. The bullpen is a dumpsterfire- Twins just need to bite the bullet and call up Chargois and Burdi. As far as the offense, it's so hard to score runs with the production we're getting out of the catcher and CF spots. I don't think Suzuki has anything left with the bat at this point in his career and I don't think exchanging Santana for Buxton (although desperately needed for Buxton's development) will be an upgrade offensively.
  17. This is definitely unexpected. But good. It'd be nice to see Meyer back in the rotation either here or in Rochester and Chargois up in the ML pen.
  18. Pythag says Twins should be 8-12 and fangraph's baseruns says they should be 9-11. However, the Twins are 20th in xFIP and 22nd in wOBA, so I have a hard time seeing them be above .500 the rest of the season. Fangraph's projections agree- 68-74 the rest of the season to finish with a 74-88 record. Based on expectations, I just don't know how that can't be viewed as anything other than a disappointment.
  19. He's always been a fly-by-the-seat-of-his-pants type. He has never had a plan. The Twins are the least process oriented organization in baseball. Look at what Houston, the Cubs, and even what the Phillies have done with their rebuilds. At this point I would honestly not be surprised that the Braves win a playoff series before the Twins do.
  20. This front office is the baseball equivalent of an Internet meme at this point.

  22. Are you implying results don't matter when it comes to the Twins and their veterans?
  23. Doing something like that requires too much thought for this FO.
  24. Once again, TR and company prove that they have no idea how to maximize the value of young arms. Using all their bullets in AAA and in the pen isn't going to help this team win now or in the future.
