  1. Mariners batters doing their best Twins impression.
  2. Suzuki out...Get Murphy on a charter jet from wherever the Red Wings are. Now.
  3. From wikipedia: Most switch-hitters have been right-handed throwers, though–among other exceptions–there have been the following players: Lance Berkman, Dave Collins, Doug Dascenzo, Mitch Webster, Wes Parker, Melky Cabrera, Nick Swisher, Justin Smoak, David Segui, Daniel Nava, and J. T. Snow (who, in the final years of his career, hit exclusively left-handed).
  4. I should be clear that I'm not advocating for or against the modern-game-advanced-metrics-etc approach. I'm just saying that those who want the Twins to take that approach should not look at Guillen as a possible manager.
  5. Many people have wanted to replace the Twins' front office and field personnel with someone who is up to speed with the modern game. Guillen is about as old-school as you can get. Also, as good of a baseball man as he probably is, he nevertheless gives me the impression that he's a bit off his rocker.
  6. Except that Hunter was 24 years old at the time.
  7. Thanks for asking, because upon rereading this I can see that I was not clear. I'm not necessarily saying we have the best people and best methods. (I suppose it's possible that we do, but I don't know the internal workings of any MLB team well enough to assess that.) But I am saying that this year's roster has many players who are performing below the levels that were reasonably expected of them.
  8. Celebrating is totally fine, just exhibit good sportsmanship in the process.
  9. This is huge. Certainly it's possible to make your own luck by working hard and doing good research and (especially) doing good scouting. But baseball is much more of a crapshoot than the other three major North American team sports in terms of evaluating players, especially when it comes to the draft. I'm not going to take the time to do this research, but it would be illuminating to look at all-pro teams from the four sports and see where each player was drafted. Or, to look at it a slightly different way, find out what percentage of high draft picks did not become all-pro or even play for a team in the top level league. Another bit of research I'm not going to do would be to look only at baseball and see where in the draft all-pro team members were chosen and which teams chose which players. What it comes down to is that you can take the best people and the best evaluation methods and still wind up with a team on which many players have a worse-than expected season. That's what we are seeing this year, and I don't think any GM could have forseen or prepared for it. Sometimes you have good luck and sometimes you have bad luck.
  10. Agree with everything but the M caps. TC caps all the way.
  11. Heck, St. Paul. I hear tell they've got a nice little minor league park over there.
  12. The only bar in EGF I remember going to was Goldie's. This was in 1974.
  13. Souhan may be correct about the subject matter he presents, here. Or maybe not, we don't know. But he writes "Only the player knows how much he hurts" and then turns around and implies that these two are overstating their injuries. At the risk of bringing politics into the discussion this article reminds me a little bit of how Donald Trump will make a statement and then say that even though he's not actually accusing anyone of anything it could still be true.
  14. Lowe's commercial: Flawed premise. Magnets do not stick to stainless steel.
  15. Miles and miles of nothing but miles and miles. Although I do like me a Runza for lunch.
  16. Brad Radke-like performance by Hughes today.
  17. I liked this even though I don't like this.
  18. Hey, a run! Let's see if we can get Arcia in. I think we'll need to take advantage of every opportunity.
  19. Red paint? Logical but not very funny, I suppose.
  20. I've heard that Chicago is the most favorite city for visiting baseball players. I'm sure it's because they all look forward to the Saturday night symphony concert. As for pandemonium, I think you would be wise not to venture out any more than necessary in the event of a White Sox-Cubs series. That could make St. Patrick's day look like a 4-year-old's birthday party.
