  1. IMHO this is the how the schedule should be for all of MLB. When there's a pennant race going on it's best for the teams involved to be playing each other as much as possible. Not only is there going to be more fan interest but the rosters will be more similar to the postseason rosters. That means late-season games will be a better measure of which team(s) deserve to advance to the postseason.
  2. As Torii would say he doesn't have his man-muscles yet. Just think how scary he could be in about 8 years.
  3. Of the players involved in our logjam I agree that Plouffe is the one I'd trade except for one thing. It's well-documented that the market for third basemen these days is a buyer's market. It's very unlikely we'd get a good return in a trade involving Plouffe. Unfortunate and inconvenient but that's why we have this problem.
  4. Adding this: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/25282791/look-miguel-sano-loses-monster-homer-to-tropicana-field-catwalk
  5. On the way home from work I had 96.3 on the radio and Kris Atteberry said that the Twins will be stretching Tonkin out to be the long man. I guess he'd be the one they'd choose for that role by default even though I'm not sure he has the pitches for that. Usually you'd like the long man to be the one who would have been the 6th starter.
  6. It's now official. Phil Miller reports on the Strib website that Duffey has been optioned and that Nolasco will fill the #5 starter role.
  7. I'll say 10 MVP awards in his first 10 full seasons! (It's still ST so I'm allowed to be optimistic!)
  8. Made me remember this play. http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/6479266/v4608765/minnyy-mauer-gets-the-runner-at-home-in-the-ninth
  9. So what's your solution? Plouffe, Park or Mauer in RF? Or send Park to AAA? Or put one of them on waivers? It's not a particularly desirable option to have Sano in RF but I think every other option is probably worse.
  10. What happened to the negativity police officer???? Did the Yankees sign him away as a free agent or something?
  11. Typical fan website, getting all in an uproar about the number 5 starter. Truth be told, I'm not highly optimistic about either pitcher. I think Nolasco's entitled to one more fair shot because it's well-documented that he's had injuries the last two seasons. If he does well it's like found money. If not, then whoever is the most ready at AAA can step in. As for Duffey, there have been hundreds of pitchers who had short-term success throwing breaking pitches then faded away because they didn't have anything else. If we have five other pitchers who can cover the major league rotation AAA is the best place for him to try to expand his repertoire.
  12. If Kent Hrbek would have been a man possessed in his dedication to conditioning and so forth he could have been one of the best baseball players ever. But here's the thing. That's not who Kent Hrbek ever was. If he would have tried to be that way he would have been miserable, he would have started to hate baseball and he may well have have walked away from the game before he was 25. To some extent you have to let a player be himself in order to optimize his performance. That doesn't mean giving everyone completely free rein but there's a point of diminishing returns. If a team takes a complete hard-ass approach you'll see a lot of unhappy players, and there will never be success.
  13. I agree that this phrase should not be used. Perhaps the phrase "wrong-leg throwing" or something similar would be a satisfactory substitute. However, the use of the phrase has its origins in reality. I'm sure it's true that throwing while stepping forward with the leg on one's throwing side feels natural for a much higher percentage of females than the percentage of males.
  14. You're going to have to explain to me what you mean by this. This is a contradiction in geometric terminology.
  15. Concur. I think it's very possible that the AL could have a dozen teams at 81+ wins. With few if any dominant teams the pennant race could become a real mess. And that's a good thing.
  16. Love the cream-colored pinstripes but not the ugly script on the front. Put the current logo on there and that's the go-to home uni. The M hat is a nice sidelight of team history but I've always preferred the TC.
  17. There was also this guy who wore #25 in 2010...
  18. As Chief said, I believe they'll start the season with 12 pitchers. That means this was the very end for position players.
  19. Out of 81 posts (counting the OP and not counting this one) only one referenced Mauer's salary. Since his salary is irrelevant to this discussion I had hoped it would have been zero, but I guess I should be happy it was only one. Had this been the Strib comment board it would have been about every other post.
  20. During the course of many seasons, not necessarily only during the current season.
  21. It's easy for this Twins fan to envision Rosario, Buxton, Arcia and Kepler continuing to improve. Those four could become the best outfield in the majors for quite a few years.
  22. I think it's unlikely Sano will spend more than two seasons in the outfield. I think there is a negligible chance that a season or two in the outfield will negatively affect his career. I think the Twins are doing this only because they feel it's the best way to optimize their current roster. I think this is an excellent example of how everything gets way overanalyzed on fan web sites. I think don't worry, be happy.
  23. ST counts, but it's only a small part of the overall picture.
  24. I'm sure that has happened somewhere in the world of 11-year-olds playing baseball.
