  1. Most players career numbers show they are nothing special. Garver will be our starting catcher next season and is nothing special defensively. Don't muddy the waters by playing him at first. Cron was one of our better pickups this off season. The FO astutely picked him up in a salary dump.
  2. I didn't see it coming. It's nice to hear a member express confidence in Dyson. Our friends at Twinkie Town gave that acquisition an A-.
  3. Actually he was highly desired. Take a look at Twinkie Town for a more balanced view.
  4. Bumgarner is a 2 month rental. If we take on his entire salary, I don't believe we would need to include those 3. That move could cement the Central.
  5. One example tells you nothing. I'm glad you are no longer espousing we need 2 starters better than Berrios, as if they grew on trees.
  6. Taking pitching with high picks is always hazardous. The mighty Astros missed on 1-1 picks two years in a row. King Theo only takes college position players in the first round and gets pitchers via trade or free agency(until his checkbook was taken away).
  7. When the season started, I thought the weakness of our farm system was starting pitching below Rochester. Except for Thorpe, everyone at AAA has been so-so. I take the strong start at AA etc. as a very good sign. I'm guessing we see several of these prospects sometime next season.
  8. Actually, all of our free agents have been much better than you figured this year. No need to always buy the most expensive thing on the menu.
  9. Try and find an ace without giving up Lewis and Kirilloff. Like Nick Nelson said the other day, there are 30 #1's in baseball, but only 10-12 aces.
  10. I was hoping for a 3. Someone we could trust to pitch a play-off game. I didn't expect an 2/3 type for two years at 10M. With Berrios, Gibson, and Odorizzi/Pineda looks to me we have it covered. I've penciled in Romero and Thorpe for next season.
  11. That's why you hang on to him as long as possible. We have him 2 years after this one, no need to panic, especially since he hasn't been healthy. He's turning 26 shortly, look how long it took Cruz to shine. Plenty of similar examples.
  12. It surprised me how many teams only had one lefty in the pen last season. One thing Molly did well last season was to get the lefty out of there as early as possible. I believe Mejia will be DFA sooner rather than later. I have no problem auditioning Vasquez or Moya as long as they have a relatively short leash. We need this situation fixed no later than the deadline.
  13. The leash isn't short on Buxton and won't be on Sano. Think David Ortiz.
  14. I believe teams would come out of the woodwork to trade a decent pitcher or two. We have 2 more years of control after this season, he's cheap, plenty of time to deal once he's healthy etc. Let's not forget prior to 2018, some members wanted to DFA Pressly and Gibson. No need to panic.
  15. It makes no sense to sell low at this time. Members are still unhappy about David Ortiz 15 years later.
  16. Many did want Hunter. He's going to miss well over a year due to TJ. Last I looked he was rated around 50th on the top 100 prospect list. As I heard it, scouts don't like the movement on his fastball.
  17. A lot can happen between Friday and Tuesday, that's why all teams usually wait until the last minute to make roster moves. I've been around the game long enough where I don't become unglued when we lose a game to one of the best pitchers in all of baseball.
  18. Romero was handled well, he just performed poorly. It happens.
  19. We've seen other teams poach our pitchers and watched most of them fall flat on their faces.
  20. Once you make it to The Show, you can throw minor league numbers out the window.
  21. After Gibson's first 7 starts did we know everything about him? How about May after his first 8, or Berrios after his first 14? 80%+ of all new starting pitchers go though the same process. They need to take their lumps to develop.
  22. Last season we got a quick look at Littell, Gonsalves, and Stewart. Stewart was the most impressive.
  23. I can't find much info on Reed either. I believe on Fan Graphs I read he hasn't started his rehab yet. He's the one reliever in the organization whose career numbers show he could go along ways toward fixing our pen.
