That decision has to be made when the numbers game is being played. Right now, it is easy to sign and promote everyone. When roster limits become an issue, keeping him may not look like such a good idea.
I am saying that the statement "if he hasn't developed the control necessary...he never will" is an opinion with which I vehemently disagree. I think he is worth a look NOW, later and much later, because of the precedent frequency of late developing big kids as pitchers, football players and basketball players.
Seems to me that examples of tall pitchers who developed their control late are relevant as to whether 6'9" Alex Meyer can "help the pen?" If it's not relevant, then I made a mistake, and I will take my punishment.

From hardballtimes.com: "Thus all things being equal a tall pitcher is much more likely to finally attain MLB skills than a shorter pitcher. Why? Greater “plane,” closer release point, longer fingers for more movement, greater overall strength and more reliability.."
If I were to comment appropriately to that statement, I would likely be sent to the Blog Poster Prison. Do you have any idea how many pitchers (especially TALL pitchers develop pitch command later in their careers than Meyer is now?...I'll take that as a "NO".

Nah! It's just the Minnesota Doomsday Preppers, fortifying themselves against the "inevitable" failure and disappointment awaiting their sports teams and their hopes. It has something to do with long, cold, desolate winters on the prairies and in the woods of the near-Arctic tundra. Nothing to worry about.........
I agree with you. Matt is an outlier, and he is "one of MY faves" also.
I was one of Matt's coaches in Pony League and High School baseball.
And if any of us says that "we saw his success coming", that guy is lying through his teeth"
It is a fabulous success story for a terrific young man!
Stats at lower levels barely relate to future MLB stats.
Matt Duffy, 3B of the S.F.Giants is in the running for NL Rookie of the Year.
In two seasons of college ball at Long Beach State, he hit ZERO homeruns, and:

"If the Twins didn't let Ortiz walk over 1.5 million, how many more playoff series and World Series would they have won?" If Twins' fans could have let it go, how many mental health facilities would have been forced to close in Minnesota?
