  1. Just one thing? Darn, OK. Gardy has a propensity to leave a pitcher in the game too long. He's too slow to pull a pitcher, which oftentimes causes the game to get out of reach.
  2. I think Parmalee is the real deal. Not worried about him too much. The bullpen. The bullpen. Oh my....
  3. He's been cut by his three previous teams. There must be a reason.
  4. Your ranking looks like a straight OPS ranking. Solarte was 12th, Benson was 13th, and Dozier 52nd in the Eastern League in Baseball Cube rankings. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/seasons/ranks.asp?Y=2011&L=East
  5. He was the top ranked hitter in the Eastern League last year by The Baseball Cube. The #2 hitter? Chris Parmalee. The Twins got this guy for cash? I'd say it's a great move. Looks like Terry Ryan is hedging his bets as he sees the Morneau era ending in Minnesota.
  6. I think it is a satirical take on Gardy's propensity to be loyal to light-hitting middle infielders that he takes a liking to, starting with himself.
  7. I'd be surprised if he got 35 save opportunities.
  8. Liriano will be an All Star pick.
  9. Nobody's mentioned Metropolitan Stadium? OK, it wasn't that great but I have fond memories. I've only been to the Met Stadium, MetroDome, Wrigley, New Comiskey, and Target Field. Also was at a spring training game in Yuma AZ with Angels and Padres and saw Reggie Jackson. Of those parks it's Target Field by a mile. For being an old park, Wrigley's not really quaint, it's actually kind of a dump. New Comiskey was generic and forgettable. In contrast one of my games at Wrigley was quite memorable. In town for a trade show I was comped a great seat behind first base and met a gorgeous woman sitting next to me. We went across the street to Harry's after the game whereupon I found a $20 bill lying on the floor. We hung out there for awhile then I walked her home, she invited me inside and we started getting to it. I was about to close the deal when her roommate came home. That put the kibosh on things. I left and thought I was going to get mugged when I took the Ell back to my downtown hotel. As I was walking into the front door, the sales rep that gave me my ticket was just leaving and asked "how was your night?" whereupon I regaled him with my story. It was a fun night but I couldn't tell you a thing about the game, though. LOL.
  10. I like the nominations others have made, esp. the Braves and the Cards. I don't think the Yankees will make the playoffs, will probably be 3rd in the AL East--is that a big enough step down to count?
  11. Rickey Henderson says hi. Lou Brock says hi.
  12. He's a shoo-in.
  13. I think your statements above are in search of an application in reality. In other words, who has criticized Nathan and Cuddyer for leaving for more money? Did I miss these posts?
  14. The guy is in camp for what, a week? He gets injured and states he's probably going to retire. Yet you feel the Twins should pay him $400,000 just to be nice? I can't imagine any Twins player thinking the Twins are treating Zumaya badly. I think all players understand the business side of baseball and harbor no ill feelings towards management. I'd say so.
  15. I heard on the radio today that Capps is working on a split-finger fastball. I wish him well. He needs another pitch.
  16. What's your criteria? ERA? WHIP? Less HR allowed? I guess it really doesn't matter. No, Capps will not end up performing better than Nathan. Capps has a pretty good fastball, but it's a flat fastball. If you look closely you can see flecks and drops of gravy spinning off his meatball pitches. That's why he gives up so many dingers.
  17. Which de Aza will show up? Might as well ask--which Span will show up? They're virtually the same player but de Aza has more power. Gut feeling is that de Aza will be better than Span this year. It might be instructive to look at their minor league stats. Span, 8 seasons, .286/.355/.356, 120 SBs in 180 attempts (66.7%) de Aza, 9 season, .286/.365/.417, 170 SBs, in 240 attempts (70.1%) de Aza joined the White Sox at the end of July last year and caught fire in mid-August. He finished up 2011 at .329/.400/.520.
  18. This is a tough bet. I would have waited until March 31st to decide. Which team can approach .500? I've got to go with the Twins, but it will be close.
  19. Cabrera Ramirez Peralta Carroll Escobar I suspect that by the end of the year Carroll will be in the fifth position.
  20. To clarify, I'm saying that Jason Tyner is the likely outcome for Revere with Juan Pierre Lite being the upside. Juan Pierre Lite is somewhere between Tyner and the real Juan Pierre. Another upside would be Johnny Damon with no power. As has been mentioned that would be a decent #9 hitter, but I think folks need to stop thinking of Revere as a lead off hitter. Still, with Revere at #9, the Twins lineup for 2012 would have a consecutive trio of Revere, Span, and Carroll, not a good thing.
  21. Damon has no chance at the HOF. If Revere bats .280 with and OPS of .750 it would be a great outcome for him.
  22. The difference between Dan Gladden and Cory Provus calling the game is incredible! I'm really liking Provus so far.
  23. Fair enough, but there are far, far, more under-25 rookies that never amount to anything in the big leagues. Turning into Torii Hunter, Ichiro, Kirby Puckett is the rare exception, and should not be an expectation. If Revere makes it in the majors he's going to be Juan Pierre Lite or Johnny Damon with (at best) a handful of HRs a season. That would be a satisfactory outcome for this Twins' fan, but I don't see it happening.
  24. I see that Gardy is keeping up his pattern of not playing Mauer in a day game after a night game.... (Just kidding, folks!)
  25. I figured I'd play along. If people are going to use Torii Hunter and Kirby Puckett's early stats to project why they think Ben Revere should not be dismissed there are likely 25 other examples of closer comps to project why Ben Revere will not become Torii Hunter or Kirby Puckett. The mystery player I selected is statistically amazingly close to Revere. Even down to the draft round selection spot and stolen bases stats. Player X is Jason Tyner.
