  1. This is a tribute to the ubiquitous plastic cup you get at keggers. Basically a drinking anthem.
  2. Saw the bar/restaurant thread and thought I'd ask: Where do you park when you go to Twins' games and how much do you pay?
  3. (looks at avatar) Love the progressive photos of Andino...
  4. Yes, I know Scosica likes to run. I guess the question should have been, 'what's with Mauer/Liriano allowing so many SBs?' Angels had 1 SB up to this game, now have tied for the AL lead in SBs. BTW, Mark Trumbo with a SB? Really?
  5. What the heck is with 5 SBs by the Angels?
  6. Wow, I like your priorities--budgeting for beer! For me it's the sticker shock of $7.25 per beer. That's a six pack of decent beer at the store. Hmmm.. should I buy one beer OR six beers? And no, I don't spend $100 a month on donuts and coffee! They do go very well together, like they will on Friday night in my man cave.
  7. I understand all of this. But don't you pull him after he's given up a two hits, given up a run, walk a guy on four straight balls including a wild pitch, the game now tied and the best hitter on the team coming to bat? Also, you think it's OK to let a $20M a year investment throw 120 pitches in a meaningless game at the end of the season? What objective does that serve?
  8. I also eat before I go down there. Since they allow you to bring in water I stick a bottled water in the freezer an hour before I leave to go to the game. It's a shame beer prices are so outrageous. I gave up on having beers at the game years ago. Guess what revenues are fueling profitability?
  9. Is that a change from last year? Because when you're at Target Field and logged into Twins WiFi they have a menu listed with pricing. Can't imagine the prices would be different if they are published stadium-wide via wifi. http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/min/ballpark/taste_of_twins_territory/concessions_locations.jsp
  10. Generally speaking, yes, but in this situation, no. After your starter has allowed two hits, threw a wild pitch and allowed a run, has 100 pitches thrown, and the best hitter on the other team is coming up, it's a no-brainer.
  11. I know Verlander is a beast. I'm not a 100 pitch count fanatic. But consider the sequence last night, score is 2-0: Single, strikeout, single, walk with wild pitch allowing run to score. These are signs that your pitcher is running out of gas and now the best hitter on the Rays is coming up to bat. Pull him. Go back and look at some box scores from last year and check out Verlander's pitch counts. I just looked at one game, September 24th, and Leyland had him throw 120 pitches. This is 10 days before going into the playoffs. What's the point? The Tigers are paying him $20M a year. Should he be throwing 120 pitches in a meaningless game?
  12. You're right, he wasn't near 100 pitches when he started the inning. I would have let him start the inning. But after Verlander does this: single, strikeout, single, wild pitch (which was his 4th ball in a row he threw to Pena), he is at 100 pitches. Up comes Longoria. This is where you pull Verlander. This is where the mistake was made. I guess I should have been clearer in my OP.
  13. Say what you want about Gardy's managing skills, but just be thankful that you aren't a fan of the Tigers or White Sox. Tonight, leading 2-0, Jim Leyland decided to let Verlander pitch the ninth inning. Verlander was approaching 100 pitches. Verlander gave up two singles, walked a guy, and then uncorked a wild pitch allowing a run to score. With Longoria coming up, and right after throwing 100 pitches, you gotta remove Verlander, right? Not if you're Leyland. Longoria singled to tie the score. NOW he takes Verlander out of the game. This practice of Leyland to leave Verlander in games after he's pitched 100, 110, 115, even 120 pitches is quite common. Yes, it worked out really well last year but should a manager be having his ace, a guy that's in the middle of a 5 year, $20M a year contract, regularly throw 110-120 pitches? As for the White Sox, Ozzie Guillen was a loudmouthed, incompetent drunk. Twins fan should mourn his moving to the National League. But, oh well, the Sox have got Robin Ventura at the helm, a guy that has no previous experience as a coach or a manager.
  14. I would look at Joel Pineiro, unless he is hurt. Never mind, he signed a minor league deal with the Orioles.
  15. Bedard signed for $4.5M with the Pirates. Whydidnt--good work. Doug Y--Like the Kerry Wood idea and Broxton. I like Madson, but he's kind of high dollar.
  16. Didn't say it was impossible, I said the Twins were not going to get him. He signed for what, $17M a year? Do you see the Twins offering $17M a year for a shortstop? The Twins have a history of not valuing shortstops. They are (wrongly) not on their priority list. If they were to have gotten Reyes for $17M, that means three players would be eating $54M of payroll (Mauer, Morneau, Reyes.) I would be OK with that, but the Twins wouldn't.
  17. There's a lot of moaning about the Twins having cut the payroll for 2012. If you're one of the complainers, assuming you had $115M to $120M in payroll to spend, exactly where would you have spent it? Be realistic. The Twins were not going to get Pujols, Jose Reyes, C.J. Wilson, etc. Here's a free agent tracker to help you out. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=jp-passan_ultimate_free_agent_tracker_baseball_110211 Please show how you would have spent $115M. I'll help you out a bit These guys were already under contract: Mauer $23M Morneau $14M Pavano 8.5M Baker $6.5M Blackburn $4.75M T-Nish $3M Span $3M Perkins $1.5M That's $64.25M These guys were arbitration eligible Liriano $5.5M Casilla $1.38M That's $6.88M; Total is now $71.13M. You have approx. $44M to spend on 15 more guys. Good luck. These guys were signed as free agents: Willingham $7M Capps $4.75M Doumit $3M Marquis $3M Carroll $2.75M Burroughs $.525M That's $21.25M. The rest of the roster is made up of guys in the Twins system and are getting paid (typically) $.5M or the minimum of $.48M
  18. Why is this an outrageous statistic? Put another way, are the first 9 AB's more important than the middle 9 or the last 9 as far as scoring runs?
  19. Don't really get into the tang of an IPA. I've had Furious on tap and it was pretty good. Out of the can I was disappointed.
  20. Revere CF Hughes 2B Mauer C Mourneau DH Willingham LF Doumit RF Parmelee 1B Valencia 3B Casilla SS Span is 4 for 15 so far this year and 2 for 13 career against Weaver. Carroll is 1 for 10 against Weaver and 0 for 13 so far this year. They're grabbing some pine.
  21. It's an IPA. Yick. I suppose it's similar to Surly Furious which is OK.
  22. As far as going from first to third a lot of that is dependent on where the ball is hit, and the third base coach. There is a different third base coach nowadays, right? I'd say that hustling has nothing to do with heart. As to the question of heart, I'd say you alluded to it with the "loosey-goosey", practical joke, or having fun playing the game aspect. It's not much fun when you lose 2 out of 3 games. I'd say that yes, compared to the '02 team this team lacks heart. The other thing about '02 is that it was a group of younger guys that had played extensively together in the minors and were comfortable around each other. They were the up and coming core group, whereas today you've got a bunch of veterans with a few rookies sprinkled in.
  23. Big market, small market, yadda, yadda, yadda... What is the definition of market size? Let me offer a definition. It's whatever size your media market happens to be. Specifically the Nielsen Media Research rankings of the Designated Market Area. The Yankees are in the #1 media market in the U.S. Not coincidentally they have the #1 payroll. Los Angeles is #2, then Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, S.F., Boston, Atlanta...hey, those market sizes pretty much track payroll sizes. The Twin Cities are ranked #15.
  24. Why don't you put this in your sig and then it will be seen with every one of your posts and not just 75% of them?
  25. Nope, not overreacting at all. It's going to take something unusual for the Pohlad's to abandon Gardenhire. A rift between Mauer and Gardenhire perhaps. Or open disobedience to Gardy. Lack of hustle. These sorts of things might fall under your description of Gardy's act starting to wear thin. Let's face it, this team will be lucky to win 75 games, I'm pretty sure the Pohlad's know it so they can't put the blame on Gardenhire.
