  1. 'Genius' Episode 2 tonight
  2. Yes,FIP has IP included in the formula. FIP = ((13*HR)+(3*(BB+HBP))-(2*K))/IP + constant. FIP Constant = lgERA – (((13*lgHR)+(3*(lgBB+lgHBP))-(2*lgK))/lgIP). And I guess I don't understand why you'd use ERA + over FIP when you prefer FIP to ERA now (thankfully) and when FIP uses lgERA in it's FIP constant equation (which is part of the overall FIP equation). Also, going a bit further FIP- adjusts for park and league.
  3. Well, again, IP is part of FIP, so you're good with FIP, but your issue with the fWAR for pitchers is the league adjustment they put in (AL vs NL) and the comparison to league average for the specific year the put in? We certainly can't say an NL pitcher in 2017 with a FIP of 3.00 is the same as an AL pitcher in 2017 with a FIP of 3.00 or either the same as a pitcher in either league in, say, 1970 with a FIP of 3.00.
  4. i use it to put players in categories. MVP t, superstar, all star, good player average players role type players, scrub. And i see no reason to compare pitchers and positiin players.
  5. except i never went off those rails. I never compare pitchers and position players WAR. And I use WAR to put players in categories. Elite position players, elite starting pitchers.and so on.
  6. FIP uses Ks, bbs and IP in its calculation and is a major component of fWAR for pitchers.
  7. it was said earlier that there are extremely precise stats we shoukd be looking at. So if one wants to know who the best players are (and for me that includes more than just what they do with a bat), i am asking what those stats are.
  8. what are the extremely precise stats we should be looking at when looking at overall value of players?
  9. One is called fWAR one is called bWAR. Heck, those arent the only two. There is WARP as well.
  10. and the same with pitching.
  11. doesnt take much to understand why fWAR and bWAR are often different. It takes a very small amount of research to find out actually. They dont use all of the same metrics for their WAR stat. They value different info available. They disagree which stats better tell the story. That doesnt means it deserves to be discarded. Why should two different publications have to use exactly the same info? Does every mexican food place have to make burritos the same way? Since they are made differently, maybe none of them should be called burritos. Maybe its best to stick to tacos.
  12. Then he went on to say 'it was during the revolution that Jackson first confronted and defied an arrogant elite.' Ah yes, the Revolution that started before Jackson was born and ended when he was, what 15 or so?
  13. well, close to average, but we'll see how that plays out. hopefully plays out well.
  14. David Ortiz led the majors in OPS with a 1.021 OPS. Next highest was 30 points behind him. He tied for the lead the AL in RBI and he led the majors in doubles. He finished 6th in MVP voting even though he played for a 1st place team. The people who finished ahead deserved to. It's nice they are paying attention to other parts of the game now.
  15. well,he considers himself a modern day Jackson, so of course jackson had a really big heart. The biggest heart. Jackson was probably the least racist person in his time too, like trump is.
  16. i missed that. Did he say that?
  17. wouldnt shock me if that is exactly what trump would have wanted.
  18. And, of course, Trump said Andrew Jackson was really angry about the civil war. Trump said that Andrew Jackson actually said there's no reason for the civil war' Then, apparently, a 5th grader told him slave owner andrew jackson died 16 years before the civil war. Trump said he got the info from his pal Frederick Douglass who has done an amazing job and is being recognized more and more. :-)
  19. yes, if you believe ERA is the stat that best tells you a pitcher's results, then Santana has had better results.
  20. i havent read it.
  21. Trumps Face the Nation interview was a disaster. Sounded like the reporter was talking to a preschooler with attention deficit disorder.
  22. American Gods is weird. I like weird. Seems it will be like Legion in that its a complex story that will need serious attention to understand.
  23. Santana has a FIP of 3.17 and an xFIP of 4.10. Sale has a FIP of 1.16 and and xFIP of 2.09. Sale has a K/9 of 12.42 and bb/9 of 1.43. Santana has a K/9 of 6.69 and a bb/9 of 2.57. Santana is being helped by a great babip (.129) Sale's babip is .278. Sale has a K% of 37.4 (leads league). Santana is at 21.1% good for 23rd. I am comfortable saying Sale has been much better. Thats not a knock on Santana or his season thus far, though.
  24. I have too, but only softball. In fact, my first year in Germany, I was the only qualified umpire on base. Meant I had to umpire every game for women's intramural softball. It was exhausting, but profitable.
  25. exactly. I've worked 2 man crews before. Everyone just does their part.
