  1. Would anyone else find it hilarious if Hunter was traded while we were still in the playoff hunt, ala 2007 and Luis Castillo, which caused him (and Johan) to flip out? I know it can't happen due to no-trade clause, but it might have been funny.
  2. want to make sure I'm reading this right. Are you saying Lucroy is only slightly better than Suzuki?
  3. 'Frank Thomas has the most career plate appearances without a sacrifice hit (10,075). Next on the list are Harmon Killebrew (9,933) and Vladimir Guerrero (9,059). Thanks to the esteemed Adam Darowski of Hall of Stats for this tasty bit of don’t-waste-outs info.'
  4. Golden Corral and many, many Asian food buffets :-)
  5. 'May’s first four starts in June were eye-opening, with just five runs and 24 strikeouts in 24 innings. That’s a 1.88 ERA, though the Twins somehow went 1-3 in those starts. He also leads the team in strikeouts and is third in strikeout/walk ratio.'
  6. After not being available yesterday, May was available today, yet he also wasn't used. According to another poster, he read that May will be used in long relief/mop-up. Wasn't one of the reasons thrown out there that it might be a good move to put May in the bullpen is because his strikeout ability may come in handy in short relief? Maybe in situations like today?
  7. yeah, we need to score more, no doubt.
  8. that would be traditional, old school thinking, for sure :-)
  9. KC had already used their two best relievers though, right? Don't we have a better chance of scoring in the 10th now that both of those guys are unavailable? And, again, there's a new guy in the pen who can strike people out. Also, not used.
  10. haven't you heard, all managers withhold their closers on the road in a tie game. Groupthink mentality/ traditional thinking always works and is a great reason to continue to do it.
  11. Wasn't Yost briefed he can't use his closer in tie games?
  12. wouldn't that kind of take away some of the reasoning being used around here when saying moving May to the bullpen was a good idea?
  13. Did they bring in May to get a strikeout?
  14. it's a good thing Sano's former spot in the lineup won't come up again today...
  15. If only outfield defense was important...
  16. He wasn't trying to justify it when he said that. He was responding to a post that suggested few teams would make the same call. Pretty sure he made it clear he believes it's not the right move by saying 'stupidly'.
  17. Well, I meant from the beginning of the season but even so, last year they went 33-48 in their last 81 games to finish the season. They only won 30 games in the last 81 games of 2013 and only 31 in the last 81 games of 2012. So not only is it not cynical to believe it's possible they may not reach 75 wins, we have recent history to suggest it could happen. And we are trending down since the end of May. But again, when I said that, I meant in relation to how many wins I thought we'd end with before the season started. I've enjoyed this season a lot, especially seeing all the prospects, and I don't actually think we won't reach 75s.
  18. I'd be giddy if this team could manage 75.
  19. Probably have to go to game logs in baseball reference. Old school :-)
  20. All I was saying, not all save situations are created equal. I figured if you had the first set on info handy, you'd have the other quickly available as well.
  21. what's his historical save % when he comes in with a 2 run lead?
  22. Bert just said we had a very good second half last year? Anyone remember it that way? Maybe he was just talking about the offense.
