  1. And he can do the rebuilding wrist strength by playing here just as well as AAA. If we're blaming it on the wrist, he needs to just not play because if he can strengthen it playing in AAA, he can strengthen it in the majors. And if it's about developing his approach, he isn't going to go from being not developed to developed in 15-20 games. That's some magic bean stuff there. Oh look, it's 1 Sept. Poof, you're developed now. Go to the majors. As far as this idea that not every player can or should acclimate to the majors? I don't even understand that argument. It's an adjustment from the minors, period. There needs to be acclimation time. I don't get any argument that says otherwise. And you don't even need to try and give one.
  2. They need to win games? Tell that to the guy who put this team together, or the team that's gone 6-16 since the All Star Break. Been passed by 4 teams in the 2nd wild card race in a singular week. This team isn't winning, and they can't blame Buxton's play on that.
  3. This. Exactly this. I can't imagine anyone thinking he would turn this season around. It's not about that. It's about preparing for the future by giving the youngsters time in the majors to adjust in yet another lost season. No pressure.
  4. So again, if his wrist is an issue in the majors swinging a bat, that same issue will happen in the minors. So shelf him, period. If they aren't going to do that, he can strength it in the majors or the minors. Same thing. And this season is, basically, done for us as far as competing for a playoff birth, so him doing it here won't matter in regards to doing poorly affecting us. His defense alone might be a plus over 40 year old guy who can't play D and has an OBP a hair over .300.
  5. If the concern is with his wrist, he shouldn't be playing at any level. Let it heal and re-visit where to play next year.
  6. I've been comparing him to Eric Davis since the first few times I saw him play. Through the roof talent on both sides of the ball, always getting hurt.
  7. Ryan already gave up on his team at the deadline, now he's holding back valuable experience for Buxton and May (and Berrios too, probably) which is vital for rebuilding. Keep delaying the adjustment period in a year like this?
  8. Rosario, Hicks, Buxton. There is no one who should block him. Not in a year like this.
  9. Really? On a rebuilding team we should be making sure we give our 40 year old playing time over the #1 prospect in the game? That's hilarious. Why on earth would we do that, especially on a sinking ship of a season and on a team that is supposed to be building for the future? And we think a guy with an OBP barely over .300 is a top of the order guy. Cracking me up. I can sort of buy the 'not rushing him back from injury' excuse, though. That's been tossed around on a few threads.
  10. I'd argue that 'the time for TR to step to the plate and get it done' was much earlier than now, but that ship has sailed.
  11. well, as stated, it wasn't 24 teams. and last time he appointed a successor, how did that turn out? so many people who consistently back him up keep saying one more year, one more year.. It's time for him to step down now.
  12. easy mistake to make, and yeah, like the Nats need more talent :-)
  13. Well, not really, though we get the point. Angels also had the 24th pick. Nationals had two picks before that, D'Backs had two before that as well.
  14. This post makes me feel kind of funny. Like when we used to climb the rope in gym class- Garth
  15. Um, er, um.
  16. And also a losing record in April. 3 of 4 months with a losing record. Then one through the roof May.
  17. The OF who has spent the most time in the field this year (by about 85 innings): Torii Hunter. Building for the future!
  18. Did we have any catchers playing OF this season? :-)
  19. If the Twins re-sign this guy, or Hunter, I might break stuff :-)
  20. Our rotation's season AL rankings: 12th in FIP 13th in Ks 14th (actually tied for last) in K/9 11th in HR/9 15th in BAA (by a good margin) 12th (tied) in OBP against 14th in SLG% against 15th in OPS against (by 10 points) We still have almost a third of a season left. Let's see how these ranking look then. But looking at these numbers, it makes me wonder when we say it's the starting pitching that kept us in playoff contention.
  21. I think in 2014, with him ditching certain pitches and relying on others that were more effective, that helped him. If we are to trust pitch f/x (and there are plenty who say don't) we can see how his pitch selection has changed from last year to this year and the results have not been good. I think, coming into this season, there was reason to believe he may have finally become a pitcher who would perform in the high 3s-very low 4 FIP based on last year, but they seemed to have changed what worked with him. Plus his velocity is down, and that doesn't help.
  22. last year was way out of character for Hughes. 2011: 4.58 FIP 2012: 4.56 FIP 2013: 4.50 FIP 2014: 2.65 FIP 2015: 4.78 FIP One of these years is not like the other. And Ryan bit on the one outlier year.
  23. This team has been broken all year (and for a few years), they just had a nice month of May that allowed so many people to think this was a good team when it isn't. Whether they believed it was Hunter's miraculous leadership (if it was that, where did it go?) or the HOF rookie manager's magic, they let themselves believe something that just isn't true. Those are fun stories. Hollywood type things we like to grasp onto. Truth is, this team just has so little proven MLB talent and one hot month didn't change that reality.
  24. I love watching re-runs of MASH. One of the best shows of all time :-)
  25. last year we went 19-32 in our last 51 games. If we repeat that, we end up with 74 wins and 88 losses.
