  1. The guy I responded too said Scouting Director in his argument so I replied to that. It's good info to know though.
  2. A lot of weird things happened this year. Not sure one year makes a trend (cough Hughes, Suzuki, D Santana). I think if you look over the last few years, there's a very strong correlation to OBP and runs scored. Seems to be how it was last time I looked into it anyway.
  3. Best defensive shortstop in the game. Braves fans will likely miss him.
  4. I think everyone hopes Murphy evolves into a perennial all-star. We ARE all Twins fans after all and want things to work out for our team. We just disagree on what is best for the team.
  5. that was funny! potato salad tried to force it's way out my noise. thanks for that
  6. Is it safe to say that whenever Ryan does go for it (if that day ever comes), that will be the time it was right to do so?
  7. I'm curious what umbrella I fall under. I liked the attempt Ryan made with the Span/Meyer trade (not the results, but the thought behind the trade) but also hated the Ramos for Capps trade for many reasons :-)
  8. no, it was just a joke. I'm sure some might believe that Ryan did take it into account, but I was just messing.
  9. Last I heard he was moving. Maybe things changed so much he doesn't have the time. Maybe he will be back some day on some site. He seemed pretty well liked for the most part, at least on the MLB sites. Not sure about here since I wasn't here when he was.
  10. When will that be exactly? A couple years ago, many were saying this year.
  11. The Hicks trade was a nice money saving move. Murphy will likely play enough to ensure Suzuki's option doesn't kick in AND we avoid arbitration money for Hicks after the 2016 season while Murphy is a couple years from it (and could be backed up more with option, I believe). It's a win win. :-)
  12. Like Kwak, not sure why you would mention a guy/gal who posted here so long ago. Very cheap shot indeed. I've seen him/her other places, like MLB story comments and Fangraphs once in awhile (though not for awhile) and he/she seems very reasonable to me even though we've had our spirited debates. Is it possible you just disagreed with him/her and he only looked unreasonable because you and others couldn't out-debate him/her due to him being a very good debater? Or maybe, like Kwak said, you mistook him/her for someone else?
  13. Even though I'm a big Span fan, I applauded Ryan for trading him for a top notch pitching prospect. Turns out it was bad execution, but I still can't really fault Ryan for it. Getting May for Revere was great but now they are using him improperly, IMO. Still those two Ryan trades I liked in a bubble. Me not liking this trade has nothing to do with slamming Ryan and everything to do with me thinking it was a bad trade, period. I imagine I'm not alone in this.
  14. Chicken Alfredo pizza is one of my favorites and it's a white pizza. Chicken Bacon Ranch (that also has a white sauce) also very good. Can get a good one at Papa Murphy's.
  15. This is a hard question to answer because I automatically think of trades that will actually help the club, so I'm already at a huge disadvantage when predicting a Ryan trade. :-)
  16. I have zero problem with my post being deleted. I don't think it was worth a warning point, but whatever. My real issue is that not only did I get it deleted, it got deleted AND it went right to an official warning point while supposedly borderline posts weren't deleted at all. Mine, IMO, wasn't worse and even if it was, it wasn't so much. The thing is though, MINE was critical of Ryan. The others weren't. Mine didn't slam any poster by names, it was a generalization. The others did slam a poster by name. So it made me wonder why mine was dealt with so harshly while the others were left alone. The owners and moderators have said that if we have issues with things on this site we should address them in this forum. Others have done so in regards to moderation, and I did as well, yet I've endured personal insults both here and in PMs because I did so. I appreciate the work these moderators do to, I just stated what I feel happens a lot around here and I thought I gave a good example of why I think the way I do. That's not to say this is a horrible site or that all the moderators are just flinging warnings and deleting posts like it's the wild west.I just think sometimes the moderation isn't doled out evenly and I finally decided to say something as we've been encouraged to do and give examples. We've had a moderator come right out and say he will purposely thread-jack/flame bait a thread if certain stats are brought up that he doesn't like and that's been allowed even though that is against the rules. This is a place that allowed multiple threads to be posted for the sole purpose for slamming 'negative people' (and at least one still exists) and some of the people who run this site and some of the moderators joined in. Those seem in direct conflict to the stated rules here, but they are allowed. So when I see stuff like that being allowed, and I see what happened in the example I gave, I think it's fair to ask the questions I did and I certainly feel that doing so isn't deserving of personal attacks here or in PMs especially since we've been told to voice our complaints here.
  17. And that's a valid point, Brock, but then again people who are quoting Murphy's OPS as a reason to like this trade are dealing with exactly the same small sample size.
  18. Well, I didn't say all moderators are bias in their duties (made it clear I didn't think that more than once) and I certainly wouldn't expect any to admit they were.
  19. Yes, except I did take it into account because certainly that's why his home numbers were considerable better in BA and OBP. It's normally how it works. So I agree, I'd find it funny as well if people didn't do take that into account. Not sure anyone failed to do that though. Yes his BABIP was about league average away in his 80 or so PAs. .243 BA/.298 OBP away and he'll be away from NY in Minny. Are we saying that will work? And what does Mauer have to do with this discussion? It's widely believed Mauer very much underperformed in most areas (though is OBP was still good, though not Mauer like) So saying Murphy's away splits are almost as good as a guy who woefully disappointed last year is hardly a point in Murphy's favor.
  20. funny joke, but I already like Buxton quite a bit. I am high on his potential. I have said numerous times I see him as a (hopefully) healthy version of Eric Davis. That's who he reminds me of. I can still like Hicks too :-)
  21. Saying over .300 isn't the same as saying over .350. You downplay the very high BABIP he posted when you do this. There's a big difference. Sustaining a BABIP that high is pretty unrealistic. Even if he drops down to only .300 (still above league average), that drops his OPS pretty far. How do you know his K rate will decrease significantly? And just because his K rate drops doesn't mean those all become hits, right? Oh, and the splits for home/away (OBP/BA).
  22. Again, Murphy's BABIP was .357 and his home/away splits for BA and OBP are pretty interesting. Bring that BABIP down to like .300 and take him out of NY and how does he look?
  23. He's 26, and had a WAR of 1.5 in only 97 games. Seems a rather strange proclamation that he will never have a WAR over 2.
  24. Well, the last time Ryan wanted to turn over the keys to someone it was Bill Smith. Many seem to feel he was horrible . So maybe we shouldn't worry about whether or not Ryan wants to turn the keys over to someone and just get someone from outside the organization, whether he meets Ryan's approval or not, and turn this ship in a different direction.
