  1. I can buy that.
  2. But a lot of teams didn't make the playoffs and certainly most didn't make it as much as we did in the span I put out there. Now you want to move the goal posts? You specifically talked about teams that made the playoffs 'the team that makes it to the playoffs most often will have the most Flags Flying Forever, statistically speaking.' And we had zero WS appearances, much less wins, even though we went to the playoffs 6 times in 9 seasons. Also, playoffs were a lot different during the last two W Series seasons. Only had to win one series to get to the W Series. The game has changed a lot in regards to the playoffs. I guess my point is, not only do I agree with you that the playoffs are a crapshoot (even more nowadays than it was when we last won a W Series), I believe it's more of a crapshoot than you do.
  3. From 2002-2010, we went to the playoffs 6 times. That's 6 times in 9 years. We never reached the W Series and only made it to the ALCS once. My oldest boy has graduated from high school, served a 4 year term in the Army, got married, bought a house. And he's never seen the Twins in the W Series,. I agree the playoffs are a crapshoot, but it helps to make moves to put you over the edge.
  4. I predict Harold Reynolds will say about 1 million stupid things as he announces the games.
  5. I am glad you are so sure, considering how liberal that whole city is (like Portland and San Francisco). Three peas in a pod those cities are.
  6. Yeah, I doubt that's true. Seattle for one. Either way, it was a legitimate question.
  7. I'm saying back when these ideas were hugely popular, would 47% of MN agreeing with it make it okay? Did you know that until 1967, 16 states still had it on the books that inter-racial marriages were illegal? Alabama didn't take it officially off the books until 2000 and that over half a million voted against Alabama's repeal of the anti-miscegenation laws?
  8. I wonder what % of voters in MN back in the day agreed with people who thought segregation and slavery were a good idea too? Discrimination is discrimination.
  9. There was nothing wrong with Bernadino asked. He asked if Hunter thought his very public views may have affected his FA process. For example, would the Giants have even thought about getting him knowing the kind of backlash the fans might have given? It's a legitimate baseball question. And he used his celebrity to try and suppress the rights of a whole group of people. I have no such celebrity and if I did, I wouldn't use it to push a candidate that wants to discriminate against a whole group of people.
  10. Does only offense count, or can we look at other things a player contributes to the team? Dozier was 6th in the majors for WAR for qualifying MLB 2Bs. If we use 350 PAs he was 7th out of 39 MLB 2Bs (5th out of 18 in AL). Yeah, he's a very good overall player.
  11. Hunter came out and used his star power to endorse a candidate in part because the candidate was going to fight gay marriage. That wasn't a case of anyone asking Hunter his thoughts on a subject, that was him going out of his way to endorse a candidate that would attempt to suppress the rights of a whole group of people. So we can stop with the whole, 'if you don't want an answer don't ask the question' defense, because it hold zero water. People have a right to their opinion but when a person uses his influence to try and suppress the rights of people who don't agree with his point of view, that is something else. That isn't just having an opinion, it's actively trying to push his opinions onto others.
  12. Rios is a LOT younger. They likely bet on him bouncing back. They reportedly had a bid 2M less than what Hunter signed for. http://blogs.twincities.com/twins/2015/04/13/twinsights-how-close-did-royals-come-to-landing-torii-hunter/
  13. yeah, almost solely was an interesting thing to say. I'm sure, along with the things you mentioned, there was the 10.5M he was given. Doubt KC offered that.
  14. if you want to believe that means it wasn't child abuse, go for it.
  15. apparently murder is the line, child abuse isn't :-)
  16. Mike already said this to you like an hour ago 'Isn't that what I said? I still rooted for him to do well on the Twins.....doesn't mean I have to like his opinions or him. I looked beyond them while he was on the field.' Obviously, he was rooting for Hunter and doesn't seem close to stopping the cheering for a player because he said something he didn't agree with.
  17. There's a lot of things allowed and not allowed in the bible that I imagine people would have real issues with today :-)
  18. Only if one fails to exclude all the pitches that were obviously balls and obviously strikes. Those don't need framing. And if one excludes that batting is a much harder thing. Also, as we know, in order to gauge true performance talent, the more samples the better. That's why the last three or four years is the best measure for true performance talent. Doesn't make one year samples irrelevant when talking about how a guy did one season, just doesn't tell us his true performance talent. Either way, at 39 AJ is likely who he is as a defender.
  19. Suzuki did put in a lot of work to get better at this and it showed early in the season where people were noting he was a positive framer now (people like pointing out, and even like to write about, changes that occur in small sample sizes and proclaim the changes are for good if the player is a Twin). He kind of fell back into old habits as 30+ year old veterans tend to do (kind of how his offense did during second part of 2014 and continued in 2015). Now think about how that would go with a 39 year old catcher.
  20. You know, there's another thing to think about. While Suzuki was a poor framer last year, AJ was even worse. How might that help our staff? http://www.statcorner.com/CatcherReport.php
  21. Suzuki's wRC+ in 2012 was 63 Suzuki's wRC+ in 2013 was 67 Suzuki's wRC+ in 2014 was 107 Suzuki's wRc+ in 2015 was 66. Is he really somewhere between 2014 and 2015 or was 2015 the real him? This is a lot like Hughes FIP trend. Ryan got outlier seasons from Suzuki and Hughes and decided to sign these guys for longer because of it. They went back to who they really are this season.
  22. AJ was a 2.1 WAR player in 113 games played. That's top 10 at the position. Hunter was a 0.5 WAR player in 139 games played. Of the 33 RF who had 400 or more PAs, that ranked him 25th. Yet I'd rather have Hunter back than sign AJ. Best option would be neither is signed.
  23. I hope the Royals just run right through the Mets.
  24. TV stations could very well have decided that they'd rather show football and the premieres of their TV shows (or not put their shows on hold after one two episodes) than show baseball playoffs. CBS and FOX aren't going to stop showing football on Sunday for baseball games, even if they are playoffs.
