  1. Seems there is never a right time to tap into the farm system, even when it's loaded. Not when we are in the playoff hunt, not when it's to get a position player of need, never. We don't use a valuable source of acquiring players on the off chance a prospect might turn out great, even when the odds are so very much against it. I'm not calling for doing it all the time, or even often, but sometimes. Ryan never does it.
  2. yeah, there are other teams we could have had discussions with if we did that. We basically tie a hand behind our back in regards to acquiring proven MLB talent when we refuse to trade a prospect our two out of our supposedly stacked farm system. Like I said, I understood why we didn't back in the day due to financial reasons, but it's just not the case anymore.
  3. I would like to let people know that Glunn responded to my PM and told me that he could have handled that thread better and that in hindsight he could have edited or deleted the others I mentioned. He reminded me he thought mine was easier to decide on, which is fine cause I didn't complain about it being deleted anyway. Perhaps he saw where I was coming from.
  4. How about tapping into our lauded farm system? Why is it that our team never does that? Is it because it's always about the future and never about the present? I understand why it was such a bad move back when this team was poor, but that's not the case anymore.
  5. If you find one post I have written where I strongly advocate even going after Weiters much less complaining that we don't, I will record the eating of my shorts, post it on you tube and link it here :-) I'm not 100% sure I've ever even talked about Weiters until this post (though I won't eat my shorts if it turns out I did one time back in the day :-))
  6. I think it's possible for people to believe in intangibles and still balk at the idea that one person should get credit for a team winning perhaps double-digit more games than they should because of them. This shouldn't be too hard to understand. All things people equal, I'd rather have Hunter than AJ due to intangibles. I don't think it's a 12 win difference though.
  7. If you think we are going to make serious bids for Cespedes, Gordon or Heyward I have some beach front property in Nebraska for sale :-)
  8. Even if it's true, the list of people Ryan has looked into but turned out to be too expensive (either by FA price or trade) is about 100 miles long. Considering he's never traded for or signed a person who was, at the time, an established star in the majors, that line is about zero steps long..
  9. I can see where you see people talking about their issues with Hicks for Murphy trade and equate it to a Kershaw for Berrios trade, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that idea is downright ridiculous.
  10. From today's Fangraphs chat: Q:'There’s lots of talk in NY about the Yankees trading Brett Gardner because he’s a LHB in a LHB heavy lineup that has slumped in the 2nd half for 2 consecutive seasons. But isn’t Gardner a valuable player signed to an affordable contract regardless of when he’s valuable and from what side of the plate? Or is he talked about because folks really want to trade Ellsbury, but can’t,so they take out their trade frustration on the next person sufficiently that resembles Ellsbury?' Jeff Sullivan: 'Gardner’s 32 now, and he’s not *cheap*, and Hicks can do a pretty good job of being a similar player given the chance.' Similar to Gardner is good player.
  11. Can I join in on this? :-)
  12. Sorry I am doing this in my phone. I quoted that and my response is that I like wRC+ myself. IMO OPS doesn't credit OBP enough.
  13. and they still don't have a fallback position at catcher nor a viable starting catcher. :-)
  14. well, yeah, but that makes getting AJ a better option, no? And also, to be fair, Hunter had a 0.0 war in 140+ game the season before we signed him and AJ was over 2.0 last year. If we had decided to sign AJ, one seems like more of a risk if looking at on the field results. Again, though, I'm glad we didn't sign AJ. IMO, it would have been a cancer on this team and ten times worse than the Hunter signing because of it.
  15. It's an interesting question, but I think the top FAs like the two you mentioned, wouldn't do it no matter what. They can get top money and plenty of years. Still a good question.
  16. This team just took that same chance with our starting RF last year didn't we and that was lauded by so many (even after seeing the results) Some even called for him to be re-signed before he retired.. Is it wrong this time because one is a fan favorite and one isn't? Believe me, I agree with you about AJ 1000%. Signing AJ would be horrible for baseball reasons and he's probably the player I've disliked the most in the game for awhile now, but if this team made the same kind of move last year...
  17. it's okay, I razed back. Hope you don't mind :-)
  18. Sorry, I didn't see it. I just saw it on the MLB front page. I suppose next time I'll make sure to look at every thread closely and see if something about other teams' transactions was posted on a generically named thread :-)
  19. Meyer? You're cracking me up spy. :-)
  20. AJ also would have cost a lot more money and it might have forced them to make Suzuki a backup.
  21. Colby Rasmus today accepted the qualifying offer. Will other players/agent now start to think this is sometimes a good option?
  22. I don't do facebook and I certainly don't tweet, but I've been supporting (contributing money) to the ACLU since I was in high school (most recently the San Francisco chapter), and will continue to do so. They have been strong supporters for many great causes, LGBT being just one of them. After I convinced my parents to move from a city in California because more than one local resident expressed they 'loved the area they lived in because no black families lived in the area', I said when I started making money, I'd donate to organizations against discrimination of all types.. ACLU being one of those organizations that I still contribute to.
  23. My post was a joke, but in this case, no I don't think this trade was good for us. Hoping I'm wrong.
  24. Maybe the Angels feel Kubitza is ready?
