  1. Odorizzi's 2018 season FIP: 4.19. Gibson's: 4.18. Both gave us 2.6 fWAR. So many gush over Gibson's season (saying he's turned the corner) and lament Odorizzi's season.
  2. I am waiting for it. Probably invest 5k when they open.
  3. If people bought just 100 shares of Tilray on July 19 at $17 a share, those shares would have been worth like 30K yesterday when it hit $300. And then today it's at 130. Still a great return. Canopy Growth is probably a better long term bet and sits around 50 a share right now. What do people think about the cannabis stock Aurora?
  4. In July, the Twins were a fantastic, awe inspiring 14-13. Overall, they were 49-57 at the trade deadline. The AL Wild Card teams will each have close to 100 wins and Cleveland will likely have 92+.
  5. so Mauer hits a grand slam and you still have to rag on the guy, attacking his character by saying all he cares about is his average? Incredible. For some on here, it doesn't matter what the guy does, they just have to take shots.
  6. the problem comes up when the team decides to pay him a big money contract in the off-season due to one good season in the last three and the clock strikes midnight next year. Will the new FO repeat the mistake Ryan made with Phil Hughes?
  7. Love this post! (Other than saying we drafted Mauer in '91 and Span in '92:-))
  8. no what you said is that Mauer has been a drag on this whole team for years. What this team needs is the ability to draft and develop MLB starting pitching and position players who don't poop the bed when they get to the majors assuming they ever make it to the majors. Especially those players we draft very high up. Our starting pitching has been a joke for years. That is what drags and keeps this team down. Mauer has nothing to do with that stuff. When someone better can take his spot, his spot will be taken. Problem is, seems most just feel any HR guy is better (and in SSS) while discarding defense, obp and ability to hit with RISP. Sure, there are better options than Mauer out there. Not sure we have them yet based on SSS from new players. Also not sure we will spend to get FA 1B that will significantly improve the position. We could put Sano there, but then we would need to replace his offense at 3B with a FA that will also cost a lot.
  9. In regular 9 inning games, a player has 4-5 PAs per game on offense (and remember even the best players fail roughly 6-7 out of 10 PAs over the course of the season). That player also plays 8 or 9 half innings on defense. A guy like Buxton, who makes plays most can't, can have a serious effect in the outcome of the game. Stealing a HR, turning doubles and triples into outs with his blazing speed. Catching a ball no one else would catch for out #3 making it so the guys on 2B and 3B don't score. The truly special defenders in this game are real game changers with their D. Their defense counts for a larger portion of their game than most defenders.
  10. even though I live in Utah, Rockies and Arizona are blacked out on MLB.TV. but I get them on RSN. And this is the first year I have ever watched more Rockies (my favorite NL team) than Twins.
  11. when tickets went on sale, I bought Rockies home tickets for their final series of the season against the Nats thinking these games will have real playoff consequences. Really hoping I feel well enough to go, cause I think it will come down to the very end with them.
  12. Colorado leads the NL West by 1.5 games with 23 games left. The odds given they make the playoffs are, well, odd. Anyone know the odds Vegas is giving right now on winning the NL West?
  13. Yeah, I'm sure once Mauer is gone, this team will turn right around.
  14. Yeah, Joe doesn't care about the Twins if he chose to stay with the Twins instead of being traded. Concrete reasoning. Some will stop at nothing to take shots at him. I love how it's okay to attack HIS character too. I thought that wasn't allowed here.
  15. IF that would have been the actual outcome, it would have been awesome. Of course, no possible way to know if it would have.
  16. thank you. Just something else to blame 'the egg heads' for ruining the game;-) This is an idea teams are trying based on quite a lot of data. So many fans are vigorously opposed to any kind of change in the game. It's pretty predictable. Makes me wonder why they bother to continue watching and posting about a sport they obviously care less and less for. No amount of complaining will stop teams from trying new things and the game evolving. If overall, it doesn't work for some teams, it will be abandoned by them. But let's not forget for one second we have given up tons of runs this season already doing it the traditional way. Still need to have quality pitchers for any strategy to work.
  17. sure you want to build around a 31 year old pitcher who has been decent this year after being horrible the previous two years?
  18. It's not like many other teams haven't considered service time when making decisions, and players still sign with those teams. I think everyone, including Buxton, should look at the amount of his controlled service time that got burned while he played horribly.
  19. See, to me, he isn't bland at all. Every time I've listened to him he's come up with all sorts of interesting stuff along with very detailed analysis. And he occasionally cracks me up. I like Hawkins too, but he and Morneau, IMO, are the only good ones that have worked with Bremer (and that includes Bert) in a long time.
  20. Brewers have average pitching in the NL and they lead the wild card race. They MAY not make the playoffs, but I'm not sure I'd count them out.
  21. Gonna be a fun NFL and NCAAF season. But I'm looking towards the start of Hockey Season.
