  1. Dave Cameron mentioned Deadline Premium trade costs at least twice in his chat from today. IMO, if Santana is being under-paid (and I think he is), a team, especially a contender, would want him more now than in the offseason. They'd get him sooner, they'd get him for a playoff run, and they'd pay him less than he's worth. He's the kind of player a contending team should target now. I think now is when his trade value is highest. He's the kind of pitcher Baltimore should target.
  2. and a lot of people are forgetting his buyout of 1M. So it's 2/28 on top of what he's still owed
  3. Along with LaStella and Travis Wood, both under-rated.
  4. He's under contract with the team. Doesn't mean it has to be as GM. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
  5. They could do that to get an even better prospect, but I don't see it happening. Anyway, I've read a ton of posts on whether or not we should trade him and I still am firmly in the trade him if you can camp. I can' t see us competing next year at all, so to me, keeping him makes no sense. Just my opinion. BTW, for those who say he's under-paid, he's already been worth over 14M and there's still 60+ games left.
  6. That and if you think he's getting under-paid (and by the market he may be), GMs look at that when determining what they want in return.
  7. huh? sorry, I don't really understand this post. If you followed the discussion, the point is, the team (as a whole), had 7 LOB, not 18. When only 8 guys get on base all game, it's hard for the team to leave 18 on base.
  8. I agree with most of that. I'd want a better prospect for Santana than a C-Prospect, but I wouldn't require a top 100 guy. I'd also add trades to what has helped the Cubs. Also, the Braves haven't had a bunch of great draft slots for a few years. This year, yes.
  9. Well , prepare yourself then, cause Nunez and/or a reliever might not even be traded.
  10. He sure used those three strikeouts last night as a weapon :-)
  11. Well, the combined total (in this case 18) yeah it's pretty worthless. I never use it. I mean, should a guy really be charged a LOB if he doesn't make a hit that drives a guy home from 1st? I concern myself more with the team RISP number.
  12. You're looking at the combined amount of LOB left on for each batter instead of the team total. For example: If the leadoff guy gets on base and then three outs happen, each of the three batters had one guy LOB (for a total of three), but the team only had one cause there was really only one guy on base. Hard to leave 18 guys on base when only eight reached base, no? :-) And here is the MLB Box score http://m.mlb.com/gameday/braves-vs-twins/2016/07/26/448356?#game=448356,game_state=final,game_tab=box Look below the box score, under 'Batting'. At the bottom it says team LOB: 7. Right above, it lists how the team did with RISP.
  13. well, first, its only one spot in the rotation so berrios would be fine (not sure why he should be excluded) but second, I seem to remember saying Dean or someone else cause it doesnt matter. Did I not put that in my post or did you gloss over that in your haste to say I didnt have any names to slide in there?
  14. There are quite a few posters who love to continuously take pot shots of posters critical of the Twins. Not directed at individuals, but in blanket statements. Things like TD experts or computer GMs and so on. Cheap shots vaguely written, but still obvious. These posts always seem to avoid being deleted. So, it's nice to see Mr. Goin values listening to opinions and considering them even if they differ from his own. Even nicer to see him admit he's made some mistakes.
  15. I'm not sure it matters who comes up. It's about building for the future, not next year. Pat Dean (or whoever)in the rotation and prospects versus Santana at 28M for the next two years. I'll take filler, prospects, and salary relief. But since you asked who. Trevor May.
  16. It's excellent. Interesting note, this is based off a British show called Criminal Justice and was a passion project for James Gandolfini. He was going to play John Turturro's role before he died and is credited as a Executive Producer.
  17. When you consider how often teams in division play each other, one has to look at the talent in each division and wonder which team is really worse :-)
  18. So I am three episodes into HBO's eight episode limited series, 'The Night Of'. So far, this is outstanding. The performances by the actors, the depth of the story, makes this such an intriguing show. I highly recommend it.
  19. Unless you feel Santana will be around for contending years, and he won't, trading him is the smart move. If one believes he is being under-paid for this talent, it's even smarter to move him if prospects for the future can be had.
  20. I've said much earlier either on this thread or another that his strength is charging in on weak hit balls and throwing. He is very good at that.
  21. I am suggesting that he doesn't. The best play I can remember seeing him do, for range, was when he took 3 steps to his right to get to a slow hit two hopper. Took him four-five mini-steps to stop his momentum and then he used the arm to get the guy by a step. Bremer went nuts calling it extra-ordinary and at the same time I was thinking thats pretty ordinary. I have to believe a healthy Plouffe would be a better fielder than Sano now and in the future. Though I doubt Plouffe is with us next year as a starter, if at all.
  22. Are you suggesting Sano has good range?
  23. I think using the small sample size argument he used for Nolasco and Hughes etc (bad signings, or extension, based on short sample size) is a bigger problem when you have a much larger body of work telling you that the positive short sample size you are using to make a call is clearly wrong. If Sano had been considered a superior fielding 3B in the minors and was having these issues, one might say, 'Okay, clearly rusty, or clearly not really bad based on all we've seen in the minors on defense.' Correct me if I'm wrong, but great fielder wasn't exactly Sano's scouting report in the minors. It's my understanding he's been suspect all along, no?
  24. 'It is this: the Twins under Ryan fell victim too many times to small sample size decision-making, particularly when the small sample was positive. Perhaps it comes from believing too much in your own scouting. Maybe it comes from wanting to believe.'
