  1. Even the crickets have folded up their blankets and gone home.
  2. "What's he doing?" And where did everybody go?
  3. David Price in 2008 is probably the best performance in late-season relief of a to-be starter the following year.
  4. What is the interest in Rogers? His stats in the minor leagues have been flat, and not outstanding. What do you know that the stats don't tell me?
  5. Big league batters will make him throw strikes. I hope his initial innings aren't a repeat of May's work last year.
  6. Mr. Harrelson just told a story about the last game of the year in 1967 during which he named-dropped a bunch of Twins's names (Chance, Versailles, Carew, Battey). I was very young (9 years old) at the time, but not too young to be stung by the painful end of the season. Anybody have memories that season?
  7. 2006: The year the Twins went 19-1 at one point in June; 12-1 in July; and 6-1 in August ... streaks that add up to 37-3. The rest of the way they went 59-63. (For what it's s probably not worth.)
  8. John Danks is getting paid $15.75 million this year. If I were a White Sox fan I would be furious.
  9. "Our defensive has absolutely sucked," said the Hawk.
  10. Finally, someone with some SENSE.
  11. It can only drop very slowly at this point.
  12. I lived in Knoxville for a couple of years, so I made a point to go to a couple of games in Elizebethton and Johnson City. Cheers.
  13. Beware the small sample size. In AA and AAA: BA: .257. OB: under .300. OPS: under .700. So many players have started strong (Parmelee, Vargas, Pinto, just to name 3), and then faded into the dim recesses of Twins' fans collective sad memories. Yes, I'm getting ahead of myself on Vargas, but you get my drift. That said, go Rosario!
  14. Maybe failure will bring out the best in Buxton down the road. Nothing like learning how f'ing hard it is to hit at the ML level!
  15. I like this, but I hope you're wrong. Oh, so wrong. The league doesn't need anymore half-dazed wanderers like that.
  16. But it isn't an exhibition anymore, as we know. The winner wins home field advantage for that league in the playoffs (which I personally think is absurd). Regardless, don't the fans really want to see the very best players playing on the field that day? On the other hand, who really gives that much of a hoot about an All-Star game?
  17. I just finished voting for the Kansas City Royals at every position for the All-Star game. I did this to prove a point, and I hope others vote for an all-Royals starting lineup, too. The voting system is ridiculous. Vote 35 times. The voting, in my opinion, should be done by the players and coaches, perhaps with some minor input by the fans. Vote Royals and show the new commissioner that the system is broken.
  18. But wasn't it rolling along like gangbusters in May?
  19. The New York Times has just reported that the pristine, clean, and uber successful St. Louis Cardinals organization is being investigated for hacking into the Houston Astros internal networks to get an advantage. "The attack represents the first known case of corporate espionage in which a professional sports team has hacked the network of another team." Read the article here. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/17/sports/baseball/st-louis-cardinals-hack-astros-fbi.html?emc=edit_na_20150616&nlid=70197486&_r=0
  20. MLB is a ruthless occupation. For every player the system spits out another is given a chance. We just watch and marvel. I very much look forward to Buxton's arrival; however, there is no reliable way to predict how he will perform.
  21. Here is Paul Molitor from several years ago - maybe 10 - regarding slumps. "I think the more you learn what kind of hitter you are, the better you're able to stay away from lengthy slumps. For me, I tried to work the field backwards in batting practice, hitting to the opposite field first, then going to center field before I'd try to pull anything. "When you hit to the opposite field, the distance between the bat head and your point of contact is shorter, and a shorter stroke means less margin for error. Less can go wrong. It also means you're letting the ball travel farther, meaning you get a longer look at it. "There seems to be a sequence to slumps. It might begin with bad luck, then you start pressing to make something happen, and all of a sudden you're trying to force the action. Instead of waiting for your pitch, you're reaching out and trying to get the baseball, which doesn't work. That's the opposite of what you should try to do." Quoted by Jim Souhan in Minneapolis Star-Tribune Sport's section, date? Molitor is a sharp thinker. Will his intelligence lead the team through this rough patch, and many more to come as the team grows, changes, and matures? Also, would it be interesting to gather Molitor quotes from throughout the years? Would it perhaps make a great baseball book? (Hey, I called it first!)
  22. Great info. Thanks. According to the designer the logo is either a right-handed or left-handed batter. Never saw the lefty in there, myself.
