  1. I understand the collective frustration with Miguel Sano. Still this ranking is ridiculously low. He remains as one of the few potential superstars in theTwins system. This is a guy in a Home Run era of baseball, who could hit over 40 dingers on a yearly basis for 3 straight years or more. Granted, he could be confirmed disaster and done in two years as well. He clearly is a more valuable asset than Gibson., May and Garver - and several of the players yet to be higher on your list. Craaaaazy!
  2. Seattle is in major rebuilding mode. Twins are in a weak division and can make playoffs with help of a very good 37 year old power hitter.
  3. Doesn't look like Kikuchi will ever win a Gold Glove with the way he finishes his pitches with a one legged hop!
  4. It would be so nice to have Goldschmidt. But the price must be reasonable. The Twins are NOT a team that needs to go "all in" on 2019, at the expense of the future.
  5. Both Mauer and Oliva should be in the Hall of Fame - although I agree both are not first ballot types. If they had played for the Yankees, there wouldn't even be a question. Compare Joe's accomplishments to Gary Carter who is in the Hall of Fame and Thurmon Munson who is not but many claim should be there. Catcher is an undervalued position in the Hall of Fame. Yes I know Munson was a Yankee./
  6. The starting catching job should be Mitch Garver's to lose. Jason Castro as back-up. Don't sign more 3-5 level starters. The Twins already have enough at that level and need to see what their young pitchers can accomplish (Romero, Gonsalves, Stewart). Here are more glaring needs: 1. 3rd Baseman (Josh Donaldson???), while moving Sano to 1rst (with Tyler Austin as back-up) - or sign a stud 1B while keeping Sano at 3B 2. Sign a high quality starting middle infielder - having Polanco play the other position. 3. Add more depth to the relief pitching staff.
  7. Ranking for Twins all-time MVPs - I put Mauer 3rd: 1. Puckett 2. Kiilebrew. 3. Mauer 4. Oliva (career shortened by injuries, but remains continuing ambassador for the team) 5. Carew (Great Years here , but went to Angels) 6. Blyleven (also played for other teams during career) 7. Johan Santana (dominant pitcher moved on to other teams)
  8. Twins should move Polanco to 2B and look for internal option (Adrianza) or FA for an SS. Jordy Mercer is available. Not going to excite too many here, but an option nonetheless.
  9. Gonsalves is a potential longterm good, crafty lefty (rather than a fireballer) in MLB. I hope the Twins don't muck things up by signing Lance Lynn-types in FA. Let the younger pitchers fight it out for a spot in the rotation.
  10. Starting Pitching: It's time to see what our upper level guys have - Romero, Gonsalves, Slegers, Stewart, Mejia, and maybe a few more should be put into a competition for the last two SP spots. At this point, Berrios, Gibson and Odorizzi should be considered as nearly certain to make the rotation. \ Relief: FAs could add something here. Position players: Look for a prime top fielding shortstop and move Polanco to 2B. Try to sign Mauer for one or two years. Maybe go after a DH, or go with Tyler Austin - I'm ambivalent. A minor issue is what should be done with Logan Forsythe who plays adequately as a starting player but stinks as a utility player?? In other words, generally stay with the plan. KC Royals did and won a World Series - as did the 1980s era Twins..
  11. I know it's too early to write in Kirilloff as a starter in the Twins outfield. But if he is, who is the proverbial odd man out between Buxton, Rosario and Kepler. Should the Twins plan for that likely Kirilloff future by trading Buxton or Kepler in the off-season? If something happens to Kirilloff, there are other options (Wade, Cave . . .) to fit in.
  12. Gordon's numbers are NOT good. Sign Forsythe to a one-year if it can be done. Based on his poor production in LA, I wouldn't sign him to a multi-year deal.. If Gordon proves his worth, Forsythe is versatile enough to be a good utility guy at 2B, SS and 3B - if we can get him enough at bats not to stagnate like he did in LA..
  13. I found Rodney to be an entertaining diversion in a disappointing season (like Bartolo last year). He exceeded my low expectations. Twins have money to spend in the off-season and should bring in a legit closer to add to the bullpen.
  14. Max and Byron should look over their shoulders. Alex Kirilloff is getting closer (may cruise both AA an AAA next year!)
  15. Moderator must make an exception to allow for the Bud and Lou reference that must be made every time a player named Hu is either playing 1B or makes it to !B (single, walk or whatever).
  16. So, the FO was supposed to know the following: that Lance Lynn would have the worst year of the last 5, and that Logan Morrison would regress this far from a guy who hit 38 HRs last year, Nevertheless, both have one year contracts and will not constrain the Twins next season. They traded very little for Odorizzi, who is a legit back of the rotation maybe middle of rotation guy under contract for next year. Fernando Rodney has been very good and the Twins retain an option for next year. The best thing the Twins FO did last year was NOT to sign Yu Darvish. Darvish is now a big weight hanging around the Cubs' neck for the next five years!
  17. I was in line for a brat the day after the Dozier trade. A 70-ish year old guy behind was lamenting how "cheap" the Twins were in letting Dozier and Escobar go. I said the Twins did not skimp on salaries this year and will sign free agents next year, possibly including Escobar. I tried to explain the expiring contracts, free agency, rising middle infield stars coming up in minors, how players decline after age 31, and that the Twins got something in return rather than the "big nothing" if they had held on and lost the players in free agency. The guy just looked at me obliviously, secure in the knowledge that he had it figured out correctly. The brat was good though.
  18. This is a big offseason. Hopefully, Sano learned a few things during his "trip to the woodshed!"

    Fools Gold

Sano and Buxton are still young. It's 2nd and 10. It would be nicer to have done better on first down, but there is time for redemption, even if we have to punt and get the ball back later.
  20. The TWins need to be patient with Reed. Otherwise, all of this year's free agents and expiring contract crowd can go for a decent price.
  21. Only deal Gibson if the price is very good. He has been very good from Late 2017 till now!
  22. The Twins have abundance of very good middle infielders. Plan should include trading Dozier and Escobar before trading deadline this month (presuming we get some value). We have the replacements. Nick Gordon has earned a call-up and Jorge Polanco will be back soon. Ehire Adrinaza is a versatile and less expensive utility man. Escobar has earned a starting job somewhere anyways. Gordon and Polanco are the middle infielders of the near future. Sano will likely be back at third base. If anything doesn't work out (like Sano!!!), Twins can sign Escobar in the off-season or maybe be the only taker on Dozier on a one year contract.
  23. Twins need to keep Lance Lynn a bit longer, 2 or 3 more starts, to see if he can regain his form. Is May out of options or can the Twins leave him at AAA?
