  1. Oh my gosh, so many questions!!! What's an Escobear? Do they come in lots of colors? What's their main habitat? And most importantly, do they like beets or Battlestar Galactica?
  2. Dan Gladden goes out on a limb, and postulates that Buxton would be a hard guy to get at first to complete a double play. Bold, Danny.
  3. I'm ok with it, but I'm not into yoga.
  4. That's just ridiculous. 20 years, 800 million, and not a penny more.
  5. I'm increasingly worried that Bad Ervin showed up tonight.
  6. I blame Dozier for swinging on the first pitch, and not giving Buxton a chance to steal a base (or two or three). It ultimately didn't matter, but Dozier has to recognize when he's hitting behind Buck he's got to take some pitches.
  7. Or we could just understand that Kaiser is a title, and not a reference to any one person. If you insist it refer to one person, why not this man? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franz_Beckenbauer As for the poster you showed as proof that the Kaiser was "evil", how do you respond to the below posters, widely circulated by the US 25+ years after the one you showed. https://artifactsjournal.missouri.edu/2012/03/wwii-propaganda-the-influence-of-racism/ There's tons more, just google "racist us war posters". I haven't posted any here due to the highly offensive nature of them.
  8. I applaud the thought, but there's no way the Brewers do that. First off, Cotts is a FA at the end of the year, so he can't really be dealt. Will Smith just turned 26, strikes out 13/9, and has a sub-2 FIP (4th in all of baseball). You really think the Brewers want any combo of Dean (who is OLDER than Smith), and strikes out 5/9 with a 3.51 FIP at AAA, or Harrison (nearly 23, still at AA, where he's OPS'ing .700 and has to play in a corner)? To get Will Smith, you're starting with Gonsalves/Polanco/Kepler. I'd be willing to move Polanco, but not the other two.
  9. I think a good part of it is that the "old" stats are nearly universally understood by fans, and not just what they are and represent, but the scale of performance. For example, if you tell a fan someone is batting .200, they know that hitter's not good. They know .300 is good, and .400 is incredible. They know 100 RBI's is a benchmark number, just like 20 wins for a pitcher, and a 3.00 ERA. Most casual fans wouldn't be able to tell you what a good FIP is, or what a batter's OPS should be, or if a player's UZR is acceptable. To a previous poster's point, if the causal fan becomes more sophisticated, and starts consuming, understanding, and demanding advanced stats, MLB teams will ensure they find a more prominent place in broadcasts. Until then, get used to hearing about how the gold glove should go to whoever has the fewest errors (which by the way, isn't a terrible stat. The Orioles would've been better off yesterday with Paredes and Machado not getting to those balls--the fact that they did, and altered where the ball ended up, is why Esco scored, and is a story UZR or DRS wouldn't have told).
  10. That would be fine, except that Nunez this year in 52 PA's against lefties is hitting .196, OPS'ing .584, and has a 1/11 bb/k ratio. I trust those numbers way more than than the extremely SSS 4-11 stat you threw out.
  11. So Esco goes 3 for 5 with a homer and a double, and his reward is to get put on the bench. Does Molitor have some sort of issue with Escobar we don't know about?
  12. The post I was responding to characterized the decision to have May do a spot start, rather than bring up Berrios, as "not having a plan". Again, I'm not defending TR's decision to have May go 3 innings (which I thought was stupid), or that it put us in a bad spot (it did). I'm arguing that the reason this was an issue is that we didn't have the quality arms in the pen to absorb having a guy go out for a few days. If our pitchers on Tuesday were Papelbon and Chapman, we wouldn't have called May doing the bullpen game an issue, which illustrates its a quality issue, not a quantity one. Ultimately, I think we're largely saying the same thing, just in different ways.
  13. Should this pitch be called a curve, or would it more properly be termed a slurve, given it's break to the left?
  14. I'll do you one better and say I want Esco starting 150 games a year until Vielma or Gordon takes it from him. Giving what Gordon's been doing in the second half this year, that could happen in 2018.
  15. Sure, more team control is good, but right now the priority should be to do something to not have to start Suzuki. I'd rather have Lucroy for the next two years at 9.2M than Suzuki + who knows at 6M and whatever. The opportunity cost of the prospects is also not as big as you think it is. Polanco is very good, but if we're getting Lucroy, we're going to have to give up something good. He's also replaceable since you have Dozier and Escobar (with Vielma and Gordon 2 to 3 years away). Finally, there's also a risk with a younger, less proven catcher, namely that they might not turn out to be very good. At least Lucroy has a track record of 3 seasons of 3+ WAR to fall back on.
  16. I would want that catcher because it's so much better than Kurt Suzuki. Your point also is contradictory--if Lucroy is an old, recently-injured catcher with declining stats, why is having only 2 years of control left a bad thing? Also, that's really not giving up that much, really just Polanco. Arcia/Kepler + Lucroy is at least as good as, if not better than Plouffe + Suzuki. Walker will probably never stick with the Twins, and maybe not any team, so why not using him at the height of his value. And Meyer is the definition of a boom or bust prospect, but he's heavily leaning towards bust at this point. The Brewers get a nice middle infield piece, a solid corner infielder, and two lottery tickets.
  17. He has 2 years left before his first free agent year, but this is a classic "trade from a surplus area" trade. Trading Plouffe lets you get playing time for Arcia or Kepler, so if you think Arcia/Kepler plus whatever you get back for Plouffe is better than Plouffe, you should do it.
  18. Nothing at all wrong with an *ing A trade, I'd love one if the return is right. I'd be all for Plouffe, Polanco, Walker, and Meyer for Lucroy, I just don't think the Brewers would go for that. I think it's more likely we could flip Plouffe for 1-2 relievers, and rely on a strong top 7, a middle of the road rotation, and a hopefully much improved bullpen to challenge for the division. Plouffe is good, but not great, and since he turns 30 next year in what will be his last arbitration year (I believe), he's about to get expensive too, which limits his attractiveness.
  19. I think his plan with the May spot start thing was "I still have a 7 man bullpen, so I should be fine". People are making way too much out of that for the wrong reason. The issue was never that May made a spot start and the Twins did a bullpen game, it's that the Twins have at least 2 guys in the pen that shouldn't be trusted for more than mop-up duty. Blame TR for not having better pitchers in the bullpen, not for "only" having 7 guys besides May in the bullpen.
  20. I have zero problem with that, as I too tend to disagree with much of what TR has done/not done this year.
  21. Miguel Sano got exactly 20 Plate Appearances above AA before we put him in the cleanup spot. Kepler is only 4 months older than Miguel, and has put up superior numbers in AA. I'm not saying Kepler will be better than Sano, I'm just saying it's not unrealistic to say he could be.
  22. I don't think it will happen, it's just what I would like to see happen, perhaps not so much in 2016 as in 2017 and beyond. What I think will happen is below. 1--Buxton--CF 2--Dozier--2B 3--Mauer--1B 4--Sano--DH 5--Plouffe--3B 6--Rosario--LF 7--Suzuki--C 8--Santana--SS 9--Hicks--RF
  23. And you know he doesn't have a plan...how? Did you hack his work computer? Did you break into 1 Twins Way and rummage through the file cabinets? Did you get him drunk and tape record him? I can't abide people who say things like "the FO doesn't have a plan, or doesn't want to win". You can disagree, and disagree strongly with the moves or non-moves being made, but it's ludicrous to suggest TR is just throwing darts at player's pictures in his office.
  24. I say no, because I want my 3 hitter to be patient, to give Hicks/Buxton a chance to steal bases. Kepler also doesn't strike out that much, so you can do a lot more hit and run too. Having Dozier behind Sano also provides a deterrent to pitching around Miguel. I'd also be very happy to have someone else at catcher, but it might be more beneficial to use Plouffe to get bullpen help (depending on how much teams want for a catcher versus bullpen arms).
  25. Best possible Twins lineup next year (barring an f'ing a trade). 1--Buxton--CF 2--Hicks--RF 3--Kepler--DH/1B (Backup OF) 4--Sano--3B 5--Dozier--2B 6--Mauer--1B/DH 7--Rosario--LF 8--Suzuki--C 9--Escobar--SS Speed and OBP at the top, Power in the middle, 1-7 should all be productive hitters.
