  1. Lesson #1 for Mejia: When a batter is leaning over the plate, throw a pitch right under his chin.
  2. Perhaps if the batters would hold their bat out and say, "I like 'em right about there." Clearly Santiago was spotting the ball in the area NASA refers to as "Launch Central." Seriously, I've never seen quite such a bad case of Pipeline Fever. Santiago is firing BP nothing balls right down the center of the strike zone. All the Royals are doing is what any major league team would do - wait for the nothing ball of their preference. When you know you're going to get one right down the middle, all you need to do is be a little patient.
  3. "Cookie Monster" is not a good nickname for a major league pitcher...
  4. Is there some subtle hint Paul Molitor is looking for?
  5. If Mejia is up for insurance, maybe it's time to bring him in. Santiago, as usual, got nuttin.
  6. Hector Santiago makes me yearn for the relative mediocrity of Scott Diamond.
  7. Palka should definitely get a September call-up. We all know guys that swing hard also strike out a lot. Can he play decent left field? Is he an okay base runner? Will he strike out a lot more at the mlb level? September would be a good time to find out.
  8. I suppose if Garver needs advice, he could ask Joe Mauer, too.
  9. It would be fun to see Fernando Romero get bumped to AA before the season's over. That would be a very encouraging sign.
  10. I'm keeping my eye on Taylor Rogers. That kid is a lot better than a LOOGY. He might just develop into a very fine major league pitcher.
  11. If you're going to promote him, send Gonsalves to AAA Rochester, not Minneapolis. This season is about development, not about winning a few more games at the mlb level. Let him pitch his last few games in AAA, so he can get a taste of more experienced hitters. If he dominates there, then he'll be emotionally ready to take on the last giant leap to the Show. Meanwhile, I want to see Logan Darnell, Jason Wheeler and maybe Alex Wimmers get a cup of coffee. If they get pounded, so what? We see where they're at, they see what they need to work on. Every now and then a non-prospect turns out to be pretty good at the mlb level. What better season for tryouts than this one? As for non-pitchers, I'd kind of like to see that catcher batting .300. What's his name... Garver!
  12. Nice game by Gibson. Looked good the whole time. And lest I forget... His trade value has never been higher!!
  13. Sometimes we eat birds, sometimes they eat us... ;-)
  14. Swanson's not the only rookie to find out that mlb pitchers will throw any pitch at any time. You think you're going to get a fastball on 3 and 2? Ha - here comes a curve or a change, seeya later, rook.
  15. I liked what Gibson did to Swanson. The rookie fell for Gibson's forte, which is to bend a variety of pitches to get swings outside the zone. Gibson finished the inning with panache... cutter, 2-seam, slider. Swanson got him into clever mode. I'd consider sending him out for the 8th.
  16. Circle of life. Nature can be savage, yet in its own way quite beautiful. There was a slight delay as ushers grabbed the bird and its victim, and I believe the family was comped a handful of tickets. Game resumed after a short delay. Naturally they don't televise these things - you don't want to encourage copy cats...
  17. Pity. You just missed the giant bird of prey that swooped down and made off with an infant from the crowd. Amazing!
  18. Ha! I was right for once - it was a pitcher's duel!
  19. Joe is looking very good at the plate. Finally healthy?
  20. Mauer's trying to bait the pitcher into an outside pitch...
  21. I tried to copy this list, but my mouse can't grab the letters!! ;-)
  22. At this point I'd keep E Santana around next season as a top ro starter and mentor for Berrios, Duffey and Gonsalves. They're going to need a sage vet like ESan.
  23. Pitcher's duel. Pretty good game.
  24. I love that statue. Can I have it? The Eternal Face-Palm...
  25. "Took a great play to get [santana] out." Oh, Bert...
