  1. "...put a snowman up there on the board..." Okay, that was good. 8 is a snowman.
  2. Luckily, most of America is blithely unaware of this tragedy.
  3. Jack Morris has no reason to keep blaming this farce on Polanco's boot. Tepesch has been hanging balls up in the zone like piñatas. Boston's players love to smash piñatas.
  4. "Pitch count is a concern." I'm more concerned about the hanging curve count.
  5. It's kind of a sad day for Paul Molitor. He was trying to coach Danny Santana to play in the Molitor style, but it was only partially successful. Here's hoping Santana catches on with another club, then continues to refine his skills.
  6. Wow. Joe Mauer delivers. The legend reappears for a cameo!
  7. I think he was bluffing a drag bunt down the 1st base line to draw the man in closer, so he could pull a ball past him. It almost worked. Eddie Rosario is one of the few guys out there that sets up plays. Mauer does it, too.
  8. We all knew Kintzler wasn't the solution at closer. Considering how well he has done so far, we really can't complain about the man. We all just wish he was a little better pitcher.
  9. This is almost as bad as golf. I can take the bad outcomes, but every now and then I'd hit a good shot, and it would give me a futile bit of hope...
  10. Well, that was the least of my fears. I figured he was gonna walk that guy so Pedroia could hit a grand salami.
  11. Good point. Mauer's ineffectiveness is partly due to hitting balls where fielders are, rather than hitting them "where they ain't." Mauer's whole athletic philosophy centers on establishing certain habits, then sticking with them. Through most of his career, his batting style of letting the ball get deep, then executing a super-quick, slashing swing has generated excellent results with hits to the opposite field. However, these days, a lot of balls he used to smoke down the line are peeling off foul into the left field stands, and outfielders like KC's Gordon are positioning themselves near the line to take away more of those previous hits. Mauer also his having more trouble squaring up balls from lefty pitchers, tho for a few weeks last season it looked like he was emulating Kepler's hand position on lefties, and it was working. It's still tempting for me to think Mauer's difficulties come down to some little tweak of his stance or style, not a general decline in his physical ability.
  12. On the other hand, Mauer's average exit velocity is second highest on the team, which means he's hitting balls harder than anybody not named Sano.
  13. Sadly true. Lots of pitchers in the minors have the raw stuff to make it happen, but they lack that one important pitch...between the ears. Could be that Kyle Gibson just doesn't have that bit of mean streak that it takes to mow down one batter after another. He does appear to have the pitching repertoire. I'd say this is his last chance to find his game in AAA. Otherwise, he needs a fresh start with another organization.
  14. This is how the internet works, right?
  15. "https://www.flickr.com/photos/7825776@N04/33613472134/in/dateposted-public/" Corned beef hashtag: ExitVelocity. Dang, that took half an hour... There must be an easier way to post a photo. Guys?
  16. Danny Santana needs to justify his roster spot pretty soon with some good hitting. Otherwise, we might be seeing Nico Goodrum get his first taste.
  17. Good intro, twinssporto. This does look like a good Twins lineup, at least the first four: 1. Brian Dozier - 2B ® 2. Jorge Polanco - SS (S) 3. Miguel Sano - DH ® 4. Kennys Vargas - 1B (S) 5. Eduardo Escobar - 3B (S) 6. Eddie Rosario - LF (L) 7. Chris Gimenez - C ® 8. Danny Santana - RF (S) 9. Byron Buxton - CF ® SP Kyle Gibson ® Kennys Vargas has been a pleasant surprise for me - I feared his tater mashing power had been eliminated by constant reminders to work the count and hit to all fields. Then Kennys stepped up in an indisputable "green light" situation, and he belted a homer to center that cleared all doubts as easily as it cleared the fence. Vargas is the man that should hit behind Miguel Sano. Certainly Kepler will continue to develop his home run power, but Vargas has developed plate discipline that he lacked early on, and his power still is there, tho in a more compact package. Basically, he swapped out his roundhouse softball swing for a baseball swing. Kennys Vargas 2.0 now is a mature switch hitter with power, and he plays decent first base. The man should be in the lineup a lot more.
  18. It's too bad...Gibson really looks the part of a classic mlb pitcher. Tall, lanky, his stuff sinks and bends... But for some reason he just hasn't put it all together into impressive results. I agree that he should go to Rochester to see if he can figure it out one more time. It's like he has lost faith in his own ability to succeed. Very little confidence on the mound, which can't be fun.
  19. Hey, that's my ferris wheel joke!
  20. But in the end, who doesn't like a roller coaster? ;-)
  21. One more decent inning from Santiago, and we can all relax. Hahahahahaha!
  22. I still like Trevor Plouffe. Good guy, pretty good player. Had to make room for Sano...
  23. I think Buxton is going to be okay. He looks eager now, instead of desperate. I hope it's true.
