  1. What this late-inning collapse did expose was the sad state of the Twins bullpen. Time to crank up the minors to majors merry-go-round.
  2. I'm gonna blame this on Polanco. That error yesterday opened the floodgates. Damn you, Polanco!
  3. Barnes has lost his cool. Once again, the intimidation factor of a good running game.
  4. GiMENez was guessing on that second pitch.
  5. Wow, they're leaving Barnes in. Not such a good idea.
  6. I'm upgrading Kenny's Vargas from "decent 1B" to "good 1B." His overall game has developed quite a bit since he first appeared a few years ago.
  7. It might sound crazy at the moment, but if Pressly could get some bite on his cutter, he might be a pretty good closer.
  8. My goodness, the speed Buxton ran that fly ball down... Like an Olympic 440 yard dash.
  9. DFA'd? That sounds serious... ;-)
  10. Sometimes I wonder why pitchers don't do this now and then, just toss the ball like you're playing catch with your 10 year old kid. MLB hitters are so used to 90+ speeds, the low 60's become hard to handle. Even when they know it's coming, the slow speed is difficult to compensate for. On top of that, GiMENez tossed the ball high in the zone, inducing that pop-up.
  11. Gosh, hitters sure do love those flat Tonkin pitches. Hate to say it, but he needs a change of scenery. He generates his velocity by whipping his upper body straight sideways, effectively eliminating any downward plane. Somebody needs to teach him to throw overhand before he gets chased out of the pros.
  12. Actually, the Twins have a few guys like that today. I'd count Rosario and Buxton among the talented young gamers, and Polanco is a smart, tough young player.
  13. Dang, I like Sano. He may not be the slickest fielder, but the guy's a gamer.
  14. Actually, Tonkin should throw mostly curves at this point in his career. Hitters are so eager to hammer his flat heat, they'll flail at the curve. If only he could bend it consistently...
  15. Tonkin (more likely Castro) had one really good idea: Don't throw that flat Tonkin fastball to Hanley Ramirez. Curve, curve, curve.
  16. Hey, we now know the proper role for Michael Tonkin! Mop up duty in a 10-run blowout!
  17. It's funny - you can see that Rick Porcello's form from the set is almost exactly how you'd want Ryan Pressly to do it. Square off that front side 90 degrees from home, don't open up early. Pressly could do that, and it would improve the bite and accuracy of his curve.
  18. Jack's right, you can't just have one legit pitch. Without a respectable curve, Pressly's fastball isn't enough to put up zeros. This is the right kind of game to work on it... In fact, if I was the pitching coach, I'd order Pressly to start throwing breaking pitches and change ups. Why not? The game is toast, so you might as well work on your form. If Pressly can find his curve in this game, going forward maybe he can be more effective.
  19. Vargas! Play of the day!! Reminded me of flicking a dirty sock at the laundry hamper while lying in bed... Next morning you'll find out how close you got.
  20. Dang, two hard line drives, right to the outfielder. Boston's got all the luck in this one.
  21. Wow, that slow curve took cajones. You know Porcello is feeling confident when he throws a slow curve dipping into the upper zone for standing strike three against Miguel Sano. Some strikes take balls.
  22. Games like this can be interesting, and not just for the morbid humor. After an early blowout inning, the leading team can find it very hard not to go into 'scrimmage' mode, relaxing and assuming their pitching and defense will absorb any comeback attempts. However, with several innings left, and with some surprising pop sprinkled through the lineup, this Twins team is hard to hold down completely. And with a guy like Sano in the lineup, you can't assume the Twins won't score. On the other hand, Porcello's on the mound. Oh, well...
