I think the "Real" Twins team is somewhere in between the team of the last 10 games and the team that started off 25-53. Right now the team sits at 32-56. A .500 record in their final 74 games gets them to 69-93 on the season. A very bad 90 loss season, but much more respectful than the 110+ losses they were on pace for at one point. I would take that especially if it is driven by the teams future pieces of Sano, Buxton, Kepler, Berrios and friends. The rest of the summer is looking better than it was just a few shorts weeks ago.

Article: What Was Your Favorite Kevin Jepsen Moment?
Loosey replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I thought Jepsen was the right type of guy for the Twins to get last year at the deadline. Deep down I knew the team would probably fizzle down the stretch, but making any move to get better was good. That being said, Jepsen was not great in TB, but was an upgrade over what the Twins had. What I didn't like at the time was what was give up to get him. Hu was not, and still is not an elite prospect. But he was one of a handful of A-AA pitchers the team had that were having really good success in the minors. And since TINSTAAPP, keeping as many of those as possible is good. So basically what I am saying is, I think Jepson could have been had for less. -
Article: Brian Dozier Pulls Himself Out Of Slump
Loosey replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Dozier continues to mash. He is currently the Twins best hitter. The question now is will he continue to hit like this the rest of the season, next season and beyond? Dozier has been a trade candidate on this site for most of this season. A month ago he was a .210 hitting second baseman. Now he is back to the power hitting 2nd baseman that made the all-star game last year. If the Twins were to trade him, this would be the time. His value hasn't been higher this season. On the other hand he has the ability to be this teams best overall hitter when he is locked in. So, looking out long term, do you trade him (if so when)? Or do you keep him and see what you can get for Polanco? I still think trading Dozier is in the teams best interest long-term.- 35 replies

Article: Alex Kirilloff Ready To Shine For Twins
Loosey replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Exactly my point! It would be nice if for once that player happens to be on the Twins. They have had a lot of mid to late first round picks over the last 15 years. Some have been good, but for the most part none have greatly exceeded expectations like the guys you listed above. I am hoping this is the guy to change that. -
Article: Alex Kirilloff Ready To Shine For Twins
Loosey replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It would be nice if the Twins can get sort of lucky in that he comes out and greatly exceeds expectations relative to his draft position. He seems to be a very good hitter that already has the power tool pre-developed unlike most of the younger guys who are good hitters and teams hope the power eventually develops. I'm excited for this kids future either way. Good Luck! -
Article: Twins Designate Oswaldo Arcia
Loosey replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I understand the argument as if they DFA and lose Santana. There is a similar player waiting in AAA if that type of player is needed again at a future date.- 267 replies

If he comes back and is bad then we have a back-up. He has always been at least back up level. I don't think he brings back a difference making player in return. So might as well hold onto him since there is no one banging down the door to play SS. If there is a trade that nets a player at a position of need that is an incrementally better player than we have anywhere in our system that is close to MLB, then go ahead and trade him. Basically, he intrigues me and I think he can be slightly better than average even when he isn't playing at his best.

I have stated on here multiple times I am in the minority and against trading Nunez. Yes I am aware of his Defensive flaws. I also know the Twins haven't had an above average Shortstop since Christian Guzman. Right now I personally believe his value to as a players on the Twins exceeds the value he would retrieve in a trade. Polanco is not the future Shortstop, he is a 2nd baseman. The SS of the Future is in A ball today. If Nunez comes back next year and continues play at a level similar to this year, what is wrong with that? It only increases his value as a trade chip in future years. I would be willing to bet he can be a consistent .290/.330/.430 hitter. I'll take that as my shortstop, especially knowing a younger higher ceiling player is waiting the minors a few years out. When there is a viable replacement, then trade him.

Article: Will The Real Eduardo Nunez Please Stand Up?
Loosey replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I had been in the camp of trade Nunez and get what you can while his value is up. But I am beginning to change my tune somewhat. If the right offer comes in, then Yes, trade him. But I wouldn't trade him for scraps. The Twins right now need more guys like him. This squad for the most part is BORING and has no personality. Nunez brings something different that makes me smile everytime I watch him play. Plus, he is playing very well right now. Will he continue to hit .335/.336/.516? Most likely no. But I think he can be around what is career line is with the Twins over the last three seasons (.287/.319/.441). I would take that from my shortstop. -
Clairvoyant . . . .

Perhaps I am seeing what I want to see then. . . . But I thought his swing look much more purposeful and not as arms flailing as a before.

I can't wait for 10 years from now when we are having this same conversation about Danny Valencia . . . . -
The results haven't shown yet, but I like what I have seen in Buxton's first 2 games back. I know he has 3 strikeouts in 3 of his 8 at bats, but his swings looks more decisive. In his first stint this year he looked to be swinging to make contact a lot of the time. His swings now look like he is trying to drive the ball somewhere hard. 2 hits in 8 at bats isn't awful, neither is 3 strikeouts in 8 at bats. It is a small sample size, but I am optimistic this time around even though I was/am in the camp thinking he should have stayed in AAA longer.

Article: Twins Daily Draft Preview: Zack Collins
Loosey replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Will NCAA ever just move to using wood bats? It seems logical from the standpoint that guys who have a chance to get drafted and have a career in professional baseball will be able to show their true hitting ability. I understand 90% of the players will not sniff pros, and will struggle but from a safety standpoint as well as projection standpoint it seems like this would be a logical step. -
I think the Twins promote too slowly in the lower Minors A to A+ and A+ to AA allowing them to dominate lesser talents. Once they get to AA though the Twins seem to zip them to the majors without getting the experience of playing against other more developed minor leaguers who are more in line with the talent level of those players. They then have to learn at the majors and develop some bad habits trying to keep up with established Major League Pitchers/Hitters. If they would move them quickly through the lower minors and slow them down a bit in AA and AAA I think the jump to MLB wouldn't be as jarring as it has been for many of the Twins prospects lately. Just my opinion.
-
That is my exact concern. The ability is there, he needs it to just stick. If he struggles and starts to press and reverts back to what he was doing before he will need to go back down and start from scratch again. Basically wasting month and a half of very good development progress.
-
I don't like this move. I think he was really getting into a groove, gaining confidence and from what I have heard beginning to understand a breaking ball. I am in the camp that he should have stayed in AAA longer so these things he has learned became 2nd nature to him and he didn't have to think at the plate. If he comes up and looks the same do they send him down again or do they keep him up just because? I am hoping the Twins have told him this is a 15 DL fill-in and they know he isn't quite 100% ready for the big leagues. Once Santana is ready they are going to send him back to AAA for little while longer to finish up his fine tuning, then the NEXT TIME he is called up will be for good. Hopefully this will take any self-induced pressure he seems to put on himself and he can just go play baseball. Then if he tears the cover off the ball maybe he forces the Twins into making a decision of keeping him up or sending down still.
-
Probably not. Hopefully winning a few ballgames will air out the place and change the attitude in there. But if it could be proven that a bad clubhouse has a correlation with young players development I would take the stopgap year. (It can't be proven)

At this point I don't know if I would bring any of the top prospects up to Minnesota for the time being. From what I have read and the feel I get just by listening to the current players, it does not seem to be a happy or good place to be right now. I've heard the term "toxic clubhouse" thrown around by a few people on here. If that is true I don't want my top prospects getting poisoned by that as well as trying to find their way as a big league ball player. Wait until that gets cleaned up then bring them up en masse.

I feared this would happen with him and his extreme pull tendencies. But I also thought, if I could see by watching games on TV only really hits the inside pitches well opposing teams could see the same. Yet for the first half of last season he was continually pitched inside and he took advantage of it. Then the 2nd half happened and it the All-Star player from the first half was gone. Maybe it takes a while for the book to truly be out on a guy or maybe Dozier was locked in and took advantage or every mistake pitchers made inside to him. Whatever the reason, he needs to change his approach. He has received a nice payday. If he wants to get another one in a few years he will need to become a different type of player or at a minimum hit the ball to right field. If he can at least show some sort ability to hit opposite way he will force the pitchers to come back inside occasionally. If he doesn't he is going to be a .200 hitter that pops the occasional long ball on a pitcher missing his spot badly inside.
