  1. Nyjer Morgan looked great when we saw him in Cleveland. If Bourn is ever 100%, you'd think Morgan would be very expendable, perhaps even within the division. Emilio Bonifacio has played plenty of center with the Cubs. He was picked up for virtually nothing earlier this year and the Cubs are going nowhere.
  2. I don't know, I think Colabello sticks around and some combo of Santana, Nunez, and Herrmann are most likely to be sent packing.
  3. They were respectable all the way into mid-June last year, amazingly. 33-36 on June 20. And that's where the real tumble began. From that point on they went 33-60. We'll see if they can keep it up the whole year this time.
  4. Unfortunately not me. I actually gave away my entire collection of 10,000+ cards to a co-worker a few years back after picking out all the Kirby Pucketts. Kinda regret that move, but I tried and failed to sell the collection for as little as $40. No one was very interested in tons of duplicates of 1990-1993 Topps.
  5. Hicks being sent down seems like a real possibility to make room for Hammersy. Heck, they are starting a AAA shortstop in CF over Hicksy anyway. Then Santana probably goes back down when Fuldsy is ready. And I agree that Arcia in AAA for the time being makes plenty of sense.
  6. I'm sure he was just trying to avoid being bombarded with autograph requests by throwing off his droves of fans.
  7. That would look horrible to outside players. Nolasco signs a 4-year deal with the Twins and he's traded after 2 starts? No free agent would ever sign here again.
  8. To answer your question, yes, this will be the worst team of the last 4 years. And I don't think it will be particularly close. I'm afraid the offense is going to be historically bad. I don't see where runs are going to come from. I foresee a ton of shutouts or 1-run games. I hope they prove me wrong and a bunch of guys step up and improve or put together breakout seasons. When they go up against a guy like Chris Sale, Max Scherzer, Anibal Sanchez or even Justin Masterson I think there will be a legitimate shot at a no-hitter each game. I think 100 losses is inevitable barring unforeseen trades. For more on my predictions check out my blog.
  9. The last one that I can recall was in 1999 in Toronto when Paul Spoljaric threw at Cristian Guzman's head: http://articles.latimes.com/1999/sep/01/sports/sp-5746 I have seen a few bench-clearing "altercations" since then without real punches thrown. The Torii Hunter debacle in Cleveland 10 years ago (throwing the ball at the pitcher) jumps to mind as another possibility but I don't seem to remember it going much further than that.
  10. Liam Hendriks, for a very brief time...

  12. I was very surprised how much hype the Mariano farewell tour received. Has anything like that ever happened to a player before? I don't recall a farewell tour with lavish gifts at every opposing stadium for Ripken or anyone else. I'm sure the Jeter tour is going to out-do the Mariano tour in every regard and we'll tire of hearing about it by mid-April.
  13. I just put together this new quiz on Sporcle, with the Twins' most recent trade with each team. Check it out! http://www.sporcle.com/games/glanzerr/mn-twins-trades
  14. 4, in about 200 games. 1. Ball thrown to me during pre-game warmups at Dome in '96 by A's pitcher Jim Corsi. 2. Ball tossed to me by Michael Ryan during that 0-0 15-inning game vs Indians in '02 3. Random loose ball at White Sox spring training game in '03 4. Foul ball hit by Cuddyer at Dome on Fan Appreciation Day 2006
  15. I'm very surprised they wouldn't leave the fifth spot alone for some competition in spring training. If Garza were to come on board I wonder if they'd look to trade Correia. I'd rather see them pursue a short-term center fielder.
  16. I just yelled "Bucs acquire Welker!" across the office, rattling many football fans who had believed Wes Welker had been dealt to the Buccaneers momentarily despite NFL's trade deadline long being over.
  17. One thing I never fully understood is why Morris left after one year. Wouldn't it be extremely enticing to stick around in his home state and pitch for the defending World Series champs? Or did the Twins not make much of an offer for him to stick around? Clearly he made the right choice though, winning two more World Series immediately thereafter.
  18. If the Twins never win a World Series again in my lifetime, I will look back to the dog-pile celebration following the Twins' Game 5 victory over Oakland in the 2002 ALDS. Denny Hocking caught the final out, sealing the Twins' win. During the celebration, Jacque Jones apparently stepped on his hand, knocking Denny out of the ALCS. The Twins haven't won so much as a playoff series since. I mean you can actually pinpoint the moment that Denny Hocking went from top of the world to misery. And that coincides perfectly with the Twins' inability to get to the next level too. Twins' infielder Hocking out of ALCS I for one think we need to start thinking about these past 11 years of falling short as a curse. The Hocking Hand Curse? I don't know.
  19. I'm driving solo over to Houston from Austin for the Labor Day day game. Looking to see if any fellow Twins fans will be in attendance for the series. Would like to meet up if so! It's my one and only chance to see the Twins in person this season, unrecognizable as they may be.
  20. Great post! Luckily I married a woman who was equally as big of a Twins fan and we watch every game together.
  21. Love the idea of the faceless bobblehead with marker. Especially if it's dry-erase and you can keep playing with it. Should try to sell the team on that one!
  22. I just visited my 13th stadium this spring and I have a wildly different opinion than you when it comes to Miller Park. I would put it in my top 3. I love the atmosphere around the stadium before the games and I actually really like the stadium. I have seen six games there from various seats and I've never had a bad view. Concessions seemed reasonable and the ushers are super laid back and allowed me to move around.
  23. My thoughts exactly.
  24. I hadn't heard this quote before. Davey Johnson's method of managing isn't exactly any better than Gardy's. The Nationals are falling well short of expectations and Span's numbers aren't really up to par with the last few years either.
  25. I was browsing AL rookie stats today on MLB.com and realized there isn't anyone in the league having a breakout rookie season. Hicks leads the AL in most batting categories including HR, R, RBI, and SB. Would they ever give the ROY to someone that hits under .200? Even on the pitching side there's no one whose stats jump off the page. Actually Ryan Pressly's numbers are amongst the most impressive of anyone with that 1.24 ERA and 23 K. I think if Arcia sticks around the rest of the season he's got the most impressive overall rookie line and would have a good shot at the award. Major League Baseball Stats | MLB.com: Stats
