    Some random thoughts: Grossman has a good eye(s). Which would be more useful if he could hit. He can be neutralized by simply throwing him strikes. No nibbling. He should not be allowed to possess a fielders glove. If he does have one, no one should tell Molitor. LaMarre has enough history available to know what he is. Not that good a hitter, with enough defensive ability to filed three OF positions. Reigning MOTY? First team ever to go from 100 + losses to playoffs? And how many teams have went from 83 wins to 103 losses? How many managers get a chance to survive 103 losses with the expectations that 2016 held, or even get to finish the season? I remain a firm believer that a good manager may win you a few games, but a bad manager will lose you many more. And I do not regard Molitor as a good manager. Remove his MLB player career and his St. Paul roots from his resume, and he would have been out of here two years ago, or probably not even hired in the first place.

    I just cannot understand the Grossman inn the cleanup spot? I know metrics has changed how lineups are constructed, but seriously I never believed drawing a walk was one of the new criteria for the 4 hole?

    If one did not discuss things like this on this site, there wouldn't be much use for, or of the site. Then what would Brock do? That thought alone should motivate us, and make no topic too trivial to pursue. . As an aside, I have no angst over anyone making, or not making a HOF. But there's still a foot of snow in my backyard.

    "Mauer had been able to stay behind the plate, he could have gone down as one of the best hitting catchers of all-time." "Best hitting" is a subjective term. The ONLY catcher in the history of MLB with three batting titles is not. Nor was Mauer a bat only catcher, he was one of the best defenders in the game. And while he doesn't have the power bat one would look for at 1B, most of those guys carry a steel plate in their glove. One last point: Even at his age, and after the concussions, I would doubt a poll of MLB pitchers on who in the league they would least like to face with two out and the winning run in scoring position, would not include Mauer, very near the top.

    This. And, while playing the game is frankly minor in the context of the islands problems, not playing it won't solve them either. This also gives distraction to what must be a brutal daily grind. The plus to not playing the game is it would highlight the slow response and repair to the hurricane. That said, I sadly doubt it would make an iota of difference.

In recent years the No Bunt party has become the No Bunting Unless There is a Shift And The Score is Less Than Seven Run Differential Party (Brian Dozier, Rules Chariman) No one knows exactly what the Party stands for as all its rules are unwritten, and oral interpretation seems soley based on which side of the score you are on that day!

    Would anyone really claim to be from Cleveland if they could avoid it? I once drove through Cleveland from the the east on I90. Once being the operative word in that sentence. You can go right through Downton on a 4 lane and then it becomes a 4-6 lane divided boulevard, till it reconnects with 90. It was very depressing! To the south of the freeway it looks like they had fought a war, and Clevleand had lost?

    I speak 7 languages fluently. Unfortunately Spanish, or English, are not on that list. Anyway, in high school my oldest daughter took Spanish. One day in an attempt to color her hair she got a little too much red tint in it. The next day I called a friend who spoke Spanish, and asked for some help. That evening when my daughter came in the door I greeted her with a hearty "el rojo grande". My attempt at bi lingualism was not received well at all.

    Yes. Good defensive catchers are hard to find. Good defensive catchers with a few gold gloves, and MVP, and 3 batting titles are even rarer. Actually I think non existent?

    Yup, we sign FA and pay big bucks to win games, and then we pay Hughes big bucks to lose them. Something is definitely amiss!

    While driving in a slush storm today I had time to think while watching the SUV guy try to pass me in the unplowed left lane, on his way to the grassy median. His fate was preordained when he made the decision to pass. Decisions. They have unintended consequences at times. I would not be surprised if the decision to bat Mauer second instead of third was driven by both the options available, for example Sano, and by the reluctance of Dozier to give up the one spot. That pretty much makes Mauer a two hole hitter. I have no problems with the concept at all, as I firmly believe BD would see a lowering of production in the 3 spot. But the unintended, or for me unseen consequence is that Mauer protects Dozier. Not only will Dozier get an inordinate amount of FB's, he should either get a lot of strikes, or feel the freedom to pass on those which are out of his zone. Maybe the consequence was intended. Either way it's worked out well for the Twins.

    Baseball statistics are like any other statistic, there's one for everybody. There are good arguments on both sides. The side that says Sano should be playing,and is a good player are correct. The side that says he isn't what he could be, on both sides of the ball have a point. He is a remarkable athlete for his size. While that's not damning praise, it's a fact. Last night he had his third error, which is a pace for around 45 this year. He looks still like what I saw in Beloit. Lacks focus on the easy plays, makes the great ones. And if he can't play third , his value is reduced considerably. And as an aside, you take that, and add in EE very average defense, and it's a weak side of the IF. Offensively I am in the camp that did expect him to be a generational hitter with power. The power is there, it makes the stats look good, but if I am a pitcher, needing to prevent a productive out, he would be far from my greatest concern on this team. As to the personality issue? I haven't saw a lot to convince me he understands how important conditioning will be to his future. He may some day, he may never. Right now he is a great athlete getting by on talent. Nor do I see full seasons of games from him from a physical standpoint. Whether he can play, especially hit well enough to be a plus player is not in doubt. Whether he will get to be the player that his talent level would allow, is another question.
