  1. My oldest went to the School of Mimes, but he quit after two weeks. Claimed he couldn't hear a thing the teachers said!
  2. It had to be a parochial school? Lol. Sometimes we got it on the navicular bone with a wooden ruler.
  3. In grade school, no detention. Just recess revoked. No idle time, we had to do math cards, showing our work. There was a key in the cards the teacher could use to check the cards at a glance. While we never figured it out, a friend of mine did so many, that he kept a list of the answers, as the cards were numbered. We stil had to show the math, but we didn't have to worry about correcting the mistakes!
  4. I love that over rice. Once, when visiting a Kraft plant, eating in their cafeteria, I had the hamburger gravy over rice. The guy sitting next to me said, "I see you're having the Gravy Train". It was never the same after that!
  5. I do the same think when my wife has me cornered! I try and change the topic. And like me, I imagine this will also fail miserably!
  6. As you are well aware, I am not. And while I would need to dig out the Webster for a complete definition, I think 'obtuse' can be stretched to include willful avoidance of the facts!
  7. I spend almost all winter in shorts. In MN. My standard reply to people who question my sanity: "when is the last known instance of hypothermia in the Wal Mart parking lots?"
  8. some of the preceding comments remind me of Andy DeFrane (sp) I cannot remember the exact quote, but in the Shawshank Redemption, Andy got 30 days in the hole for suggesting to the warden that he was being (intentionally) obtuse! .
  9. . I don't know about wsnydes but I was at the mall the other day, and not one person in yoga pants was exercising. Nor did I see one person in sweats. Hmm. That said I will acknowledge the comfort of my "Jammie's". But for the good of mankind, I don't leave the premises with them on!
  10. I was going through my dads old stuff the other day, and found report cards from some of my brothers. They all echoed the same thought as mine did, and of our children, to wit: (fill in name here) is such a nice child, we are so pleased to have her/him on our class. She/he is such a joy! While he/she is doing fine, I am sure with a little more effort she/he could improve her grades quite a bit! I always wondered why at parent teachers they just didn't hand out 3x5 cards with this message, it would have saved so much time, and I could have gotten into the cookies and coffee sooner!
  11. I always think that also. But there is a little nagging guy on my shoulder that keeps whispering in my ear. "What if they get the wrong guy, what then". .
  12. Whether we like it or not, some serious trades have to be made to upgrade the SP. trades that will hurt. It's either that, or another column next August just like this one.
  13. He seems to be able to flat out hit, he doesn't seem to need a specific pitch like some guys, and while he isn't a BB machine, he isn't Rosario either. His offens definitely plays. My memory of his MiLB is not just a lack of arm, but also a little inconsistent with the glove? That said, so far I take him over Nunez of EE. But given my druthers, on this club, at this time, I would trade Dozier and whatever, for a solid SP, move Polanco there, and install a glove first SS. I keep hearing Vielma can pick it, but I see he has like 15 errors this year. Maybe we don't have a SS who can really really field? Should that surprise me?
  14. Sanos range might cancel his glove, and his bat also does its part. And this is one of the positions where you make those trade offs. Not behind the plate, at SS, or in CF. while the Twins won't contend for anything except draft choices until they get some decent SP, that doesn't mean they can't start balancing their lineup with hitters on the corners, and some defense in the middle. I will repeat a past observation: If Trevor Plouffe is your cleanup hitter (and an intregal part of your lineup), you got big problems!! It does not take advanced metrics to figure that out, just common sense!
  15. I hope soon, as our history with such "experiments" makes me wonder why it's taking them so long? :)
  16. Please! We have to have an OF who can catch a fly ball somewhere?
  17. I know he's toxic on here, but he is a better OF than RB.
  18. I think we need to reconsider the matter of DanSan in LF.
  19. And this conversation has been held regarding how many players over the years. Maybe other teams do it also, but we always seem to be tryimg to turn sows ears into silk purses!
  20. I had not considered his multifaceted abilities.
  21. I have been trying to figure out a drinking game, connect d to Grossmans called third strikes. But three beers a game doesn't seem enough.
  22. I have absolutely no bleeping idea how to load it.
  23. So earlier in the thread there was discussion on social media, and some took minor exception to my ridicule thereof. My wife just brought me one posted on hers. A former classmate of mine, playing "In heaven there is no beer" on his concertina. And somehow while playing poured from a longneck Schells mounted on one end of the concertina, into a cup mounted on the other end, and then to drink the beer. Never missed a note! My point is to apologize for belittling FB! Without it, I would have never saw this extraordinary event!
  24. so does that make it unilateral? Yes? No?
