  1. And of course how long will they go with a 3 man bench? It must be extremely discouraging for the MiLB players to work their ass off and see the FO bring in a retread instead of them. One can be "challenged" only so often before the challenge becomes a discouragement.
  2. Detroit. Not too far from where you go South of the Boarder and wind up in Canada. I forget, do we expect them to pay for a wall? They might at that, if it is shown. >>>>>>>>>>After last weekend they will pay for the wall, only it isn't going to be to keep the Canadians in Canada. Lol
  3. It's not just Twins hitters. Watching him pitch makes ME think I can hit MLB pitching.
  4. I would think that regardless of who the pitchers are the Twins will carry 13 pitchers, and 4 bench guys.
  5. The only thing that keeps comin back over and over more often that former Twins vets is Michael Meyers!
  6. I am going over to another thread on increasing interest in the game. I wanna see if this acquisition is mention as a positive or a negative?
  7. Not sure if this an MLB move, but if it is at least we don't have to worry about the MOY not using him.
  8. That's because Babe Ruth would have never went 1-12 against the Twins
  9. I am surprised no one has mentioned soccer, especially when discussing the long term future. I wouldn't walk across my living room to watch soccer, but it's growing like crazy I think baseball will outlive the NFL. But I don't think the NFL will outlive soccer. Trying to deal with the head injuries will change the game significantly. I totally agree with gunnarthor, 3 outcomes baseball is boring. Working pitch counts is boring. And shifts are frustrating. That said I totally understand the shifts for the purposes of competition. . But watching guys flail away trying to hit HR's is simply a step above HR Derby. UGH. It would be a shame, and ironic, if metrics so improved the evaluations of players values and processes, and at the same time ruined the most interesting parts of the sport. HR's are exciting when the big guys hit them, you look for that. But when 5' 10" IF are constantly jacking for one, it starts to resemble slow pitch. And for heavens sake, solve the endless 3-2 counts. If you watch a game on TiVo you can almost skip the first 4 pitches of an AB. Sheesh!
  10. Molitor, among many, have referenced the idea that Sano is late on the FB, and in an attempt to compensate is jumping the FB and getting eaten alive by the off speed stuff. This begs a question. Why? Why is Sano not keeping up to the FB? What's changed? Rust should be gone. I dread going here, nor will I speculate on cause. But has his "apparent" lack of conditioning stolen some bat speed? While we may think it's a lack of recognition, it instead could be an attempt to compensate for being behind on the FB, making him look like a guess hitter? In lesser hitters that's what makes off speed stuff so effective, they low up for the FB and flail at the slow stuff.
  11. He may be seeing a higher % of FB's, but are they strikes? Or are they show me pitches, setting up the breaking ball. Since Sano isn't a dead pull hitter he should have a leg up on say a Dozier in combatting breaking stuff away. Plus he doesn't need to pull a ball to hit the seats, in any park. Also you posted a ton of numbers to show that he wasn't that far off spec, but you woulda fooled me. Sano has put himself at a level where he has almost no control of the AB. If the pitcher, any pitcher executes his pitches, Sano is toast.
  12. Trout? Totally overrated. Something like 1-12 over the weekend. Get someone in that lineup that could hit with RISP and they would have swept the series. Twins pitching handled him with ease.
  13. I am not sure Nick Gordon has to "save" the Twins. He likely would not get the chance. That would require Molitor to play him to that extent. That's not likely. It also requires Sano to basically play 1B or DH, or DH Esxobar. That would put 3 sub EE level defenders on the field in front of him. Gordon is a problem to solve, but he is not as big a problem to solve as Sano. Can he hold up on the field, and remember how he used to hit? In a more general look at this I would be opportunity driven sellers at the deadline. This isn't a contending team in reality. They have no solution behind the plate. Dozier will leave anyway. Escobar could also, and would be a major loss. I can't see Mauer returning to even last years form. I was hoping this year was different. The pitching improvements should have done it. But Sano, Buxton, Dozier and the injuries pretty much blew that up. Add in sloppy uninspired play and it's 2017 again. A bitter battle to the end for a slim opportunity be eligible to get bounced in the first round.
  14. It does seem hapless, and helpless. Where do you start. The pitching is livable, it ain't great and gets exposed by better teams but from a MN standpoint is not as bad as usual. Faint praise indeed. But the offense. Sheesh. I am not a Molitor fan at all, but he can't hit the whole lineup in the 9 hole. I still think the biggest problem is that there are only two guys you can count on to hit the ball in the clutch. Escobar and Rosario. They miss Mauer far more than many realize or will admit. The injuries have not helped, but look at the Angels. All kinds of DL'ers there. Not sure where to go either. A lot of our players are too young, and "potentially" too talented for a fire sale. But if we are still a dumpster fire in late June? Bottom line, th only thing that revives this bunch is what another poster said, and which I have believed in for a long time. Either Sano and Buxton start playing MLB at the level they are capable of, or we are going to be mediocre for a long time. And while I gave a pass to Molitor on the lineup, that's as far as it goes. I have absolutely no doubt that the team would have been far better served with Doug M. in that spot. This bunch need a kick in the posterior. Not for the hitting or pitching, but the laid back sloppy lacksadasical play. I doubt Doug would have stood for this. The Twins made a horrible decision on Molitor. First in hiring him, then in keeping him. And since they hired a local legend, he is going to be twice as hard to cut ties with.
  15. If that's the case, why does he use the same 3 guys over and over.
  16. New drinking game. Every time a ball glances of Garvers glove we hoist one!
  17. I don't know who's responsible, but regardless the teams record at the end of the year, this is not a fundamentally sound baseball team. And it's not just one or two players. Throws to wrong bases, missed cutoff men, guys picked off second, you name it, we got it. Sooner or later this orginisation has to clean up its style of play. Winning a game you played poorly doesn't change the fact you played poorly. It simply covers up the issue temporarily.
  18. Nice story. I seriously doubt that I knew Denny Hockimg was ever a catcher. A few years ago I went to CR for a game that was the end of a series, and the next day followed the team to Clinton for the first game of that series. The park was old but clean, with a lot of character. But definitely a step down from CR. I highly recommend a road trip to IA for those who like baseball. It's an easy drive, and it's not at all hard to tie in another activity like the Amana Colonies or catch Field of Dreams on the way home. BTW, the signs on the freeway coming into CR warning of photo speed tickets are for real. They may not use robot plate umps in baseball, but they do use robot cops in CR.
  19. Nice job, I see most of the games but I never miss your write up. Thank you. . Btw, dont worry about child time. Eventually they will change their mailing address, but they never leave home.
  20. The pitcher pinch hitting isn't the problem here!
  21. IIRC (always open for debate) Sheilds has reverse lefty righty splits. So it would make sense to load your lineup with rightys. So of course today the leftys are obliterating him.
  22. MOY would have to run that by BD and get back to you.
  23. Dozier would have never agreed to bat that low in the order. . That said its a far better looking group than the one further up in the thread.
  24. The last couple fake intentional walks and jump back into the catchers box looked tricky. I wonder what happened in the next inning? In that era there would have been one in someone's gluteus Maximus. Yup, 5-9. Our version of the Murderers Row. We are going to get so murdered! MOY must have had his advanced metrics report upside down when he made out the lineup.
