  1. . "We had 1 players who were hitting better?" >>>>. You must have flinched on the '1' key, FTFY
  2. Why do you challenge a two out single? In the third inning? On an iffy play? Is that going to be a game changer? How, on a 25 man roster do two guys like Astudillo and Magill just disappear? Why does Booze Nuts go down, and Belisle stays. I know there are lots of intricacies involved in contracts, options, and other things I don't even have access to, but somethings just seem common sense.
  3. There was absolutely no reason that Astudillo did not get more time. He could play several positions, he could catch, he had the cajones to take the ball and pitch an inning, and he put the ball in play. He wasnt EE or even Nick Punto, but there have been a lot worse run through this roster this year.
  4. Sadly, I agree with both your post and the fact that Motter and Andrainza aren't going to spin the turnstiles. The reason I say sadly is that if the FO runs the team to satisfy the teams ticket sales department rather than develop the best orginisation possible you will be stuck forever in a never ending loop of "the next big thing", not turn inning into any big thing.
  5. I think "he looks like he is catching with a frying pan instead of a catchers mitt", was my take on Garver. And to an extent it still is. He fights the ball way too much. He is virtually the antithesis of a pitch framer. His supposed strong arm is negated by what many say is a poor pop up time. But on a somewhat positive note, there is no doubt he has put in some serious time working on blocking balls in the dirt. He is starting to slide squared up to the mound, vs turning his body and have the ball angle off him. While I know that he is often credited with "calling a good game", my question is who actually calls the game. Catchers are constantly looking into the dugout before putting their fingers down. Since I seriously doubt they are checking to see whether Dominoes had delivered yet, what exactly are they looking for?
  6. I think you're close on both analysis. Buxtons seems more straight forward. He has to play until he makes it or fails. And of course stays healthy. Rochester holds nothing for him. I personally still thinks he makes it as a significant MLB player. Sano is a little more difficult. Even if he makes strides this summer, can he sustain it when he hangs in the winter with his buds? That has been rumored to be a problem in the past. I sure like to watch him hit when he is on his game though.
  7. There's a very short list of people who know if Mauer would agree to a rental to a contender. I am not on it. In a way I wish he would, it would be nice to see him have a shot. But I am sure getting to a WS with another team just doesn't have the same ring to it as if it was the Twins.
  8. Celebrating for yourself is fine, celebrating to your dugout is fine, celebrating in an opponents face is stupid. And disrespectful. And dangerous. And it's not only dangerous in baseball. Generally you get into someone's face with an overt celebration in any sport, somethings gonna happen.
  9. While I am not arguing your point, could you define revenue? Meaning is the revenue "fan" driven, or corporate driven. I know there is a crossover, as corporations spend money where it impacts customers. I think another benchmark on baseballs popularity may be right here in front of us. There are quite a few baseball oriented people here who are not really happy with the game as it has evolved over the last 4 or so years. The fact that it's a hot topic, and the fact that we are discussing it is proof of that fact.
  10. Yes. Like someone asking me about NASCAR or soccer. I cannot conceive of a change in either of those sports that would cause me to read about them.
  11. I think the game will evolve, and players who can't really hit HR wil have to adapt to have value. Buts it's going to be a lenghtly process. I truly dislike a lot of what's going on. The strikeouts, the all or nothing fly balls. Something will change. One other aggravation. The feeling that things like launch angles and exit velocity are new or game changing. The ability to describe and quantify them may be, but the knowledge that if you hit a ball off the ground high enough, and hard enough, it would fly over a fence was discovered the day after Abner Doubleday put up the first fence.
  12. I watched the game on TiVo late, and did not GT. I actually liked the move for this reason. The game was basically over if those runs scored. And I sort of thought the move made some sense. There was nothing to save if the game got any crazier. So I thought MOY made a good move. And this comes from a guy who is further to the front of the get rid of MOY line than Carole is. As for Magill, the only thing I can think of is put his picture on some milk cartons and see if anyone can find him. (Does running in from the BP to rumble count as a game appearance)
  13. Yesterday was just just plain weird...... The Strib is running a piece on analytics and how Molitor has a clear vinyl covered color coded chart to help with match ups. Makes me wonder if our MOY is color blind?
  14. IMHO the surest sign that the FO has changed its view of the season and is going for it is the decision to keep Belisle on the roster.
  15. . Gosh, I hope they don't laugh too hard. It's bad manners. But then again we are assuming anyone will be watching baseball by then. They may all be watching soccer?
  16. The Strib is running a 3 part series on MLB and how it is changing. http://www.startribune.com/are-baseball-analytics-stealing-the-show/488204101/
  17. Or teams win better when he pitches?
  18. It's also a player against the ball. It's not a pass Fromm QB or a point guard. It's a ball hit in a random direction, that an individual player has to catch. Baseball is a very easy game to be selfish about, and play only to pad your stats.
  19. Disagreeing is fine, I do it all the time. . So is the roster then suitable to be a legitimate contender? Do our comtinual baserunning gaffes inspire confidence int the field staff? Maybe it's our record against decent level teams? May of '15 cost the Twins a season of developing younger players in pursuit of something they frankly should not have been chasing. We never took the step of just plain sticking with our younger players and taking our lumps. We sacrificed that for about ten meaningless wins in September.
  20. Right on time, basically after we are buried for the season.
  21. I contemplated the following as a post initially. Regardless if the Twins could come close to Cleveland or not, is it a good idea? Is keeping some expiring contracts, and some players with no reasonable future on the roster worth the slight chance of catching Cleveland? Or are we better restructuring and evaluating. I know the rebuild has moved glacially, but the fact is it's still not there. I for one would dump this season, not tank it, just move on. Otherwise we could easily end up in that dreaded middle ground for longer than just one year.
  22. One could just as well take a flyer on Vargas, as the apparent flyer we took on Morrison. While Vargas may not be better, it's truly hard to be worse. And yes, move some dead end contracts for something. And give the experience to some potential controllable players. Something for nothing is better than nothing for nothing.
  23. I wouldn't move now either, despite my skepticism. Things need to settle for OTHER teams Nor would I let a faux playoff run change my mind about the viability of this roster as a legitimate contender. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice, shame on (whoever fell for it)
