  1. What we need to do, is get into a room, rent "Money Ball" and the new Clint Eastwood Movie. They seem to be two 100% fictional movies. Which everone is better, shall rule the day. Money Ball is the WAR, sabre metrics movie, while Clint Eastwood's is the scout, humanistic, have a conversation with an empty chair one. I haven't seen Eastwood's...but I would say that movie looks to have the edge "on paper."
  2. "The teams may have figured out something since then. In the five years since, only eleven pitchers have reached that $20M level. No class since has had more than three pitchers reach that plateau. In fact, no class has had more than seven pitchers even get $10 million contracts." I don't have skill nor the time to look this up, but I was wondering how much pitchers re-upping with their old team has to do with not throwing all that money at FA's. The Phillies just did it this season, and if I'm not mistaken, didn't CC opt out of a deal around last summer and get a bigger deal from the Yanks? Just question's I would like answered. Thanks
  3. What? Extend him now, no way. You mentioned all the reasons not to extend the guy. He has 1 maybe 2 good years left, which just so happen to be with us. He has never played this many games in a season. We have MAJOR outfield depth in our farm system. The number one question to ask oursevles is whether or not we should trade him because this offseason. His contract is amazing, 7 mil for 100+ RBI and 35 hr is a better deal than the Louisiana Purchase. IMO, you wait it out, if you can contend next year keep him w/o the extension. If you plays the next two years at the same level, THEN you start talking extension. Even then, you offer him the 12 to 13 million for one year. If he takes it, you get a guy whom can mash (at age 37), if he does not take it, you recieve a compensatory pick. It is as easy as that. In other words, don't sign this guy until you have to.
  4. Don't quote WAR, it is such a scam. Put this into your stupid I-pad/computer/I-phone, Our pitching is downright terrible. The differnce between Span and Revere is small. What you lose with Revere in OPS and arm strength, you gain in baserunning and taking hits away. Revere is faster than Span, and is especially better at baserunning. Span does not get the whole baserunning thing. I have never seen someone so good at getting picked off at first. Where do you put that into WAR? What part of WAR measures how a guy hits away from his home field, or how a guy can't hit because he is worried about being traded around the trade deadline. Let's just stop playing games, and start putting numbers into a computer and name the Oakland A's the Wolrd series champs, because they get on base alot and made a movie with Brad Pitt about it.
  5. Span will bring back some decent pitching, no doubt about it. The question should be, what can Morneau bring back in a trade, and how ready is Parmalee to take over full time at 1st? Parmalee is not a RF. If anything, the Twins put Mastrianni at Right untill Arcia or Hicks come up.
  6. I think Hermsie will start the year at AAA. He needs to be working on his defense behind the plate on a regular basis. If he is going to contribute on a major league team, he HAS to be good behind the plate. A teams #2 catcher needs to be good defensively. I am as down on Butera as everyone else is. He knows how to handle a pitching staff. These guys don't take as much BP as regular position guys as they are watching film and learning the opposing teams hitting tendancies. I give up offense for defense in a backup, every 4-5 days catcher. Hitting is a plus but not necessary. Good teams number two catcher is a Redman type guy. A stocky, hard nosed dude who can go out call a game for a young pitcher (or a bipolar one like Liriano). Saying that Butera is as bad a hitter as you can get. Yikes
  7. Or he needs some Vegemite?
  8. Must see baseball, the history books will look back at this and say, "Sale v. Vazquez was the turning point in US, nay World, nay...INTERGALACTIC History." Two men going the distance, both pitching 15 shutout innings, throwing over 200 pitches. This will be epic.
  9. If you want your daughters to tunr into fully functioning adult's...you teach them to hate BOTH the Yankees and the White Sox. And the Tigers. And to laugh at the Royals when they are 20 under 500 every year.
  10. Writing on a post to get your post count up...CHECK
  11. The Twins play the most hated, vile, poop stained team in the league in late Septmember: The Damn Yankees. Even though we have been out of it since May, and our attendance is dropping, I urge you to get out to the park. I know the park will be packed in two weeks for this series, but can we pack it full of Twins fans? The Twins have an actual chance to hurt the Yankees this September. They are tied with the Orioles and have the Rays only 3 games back. This series could come down to be the most important of the wretched Yanks season. Go Orioles!! The purpose of this post is to stir up the hatred we have for the Yankees. I hate the Yankees more than I like the Twins. Please tell me how bad you hate the Yankees. I am the guy who boos Derek Jeter. Dang right I boo that ahole. He is a Yankee. If Herbert Humphrey (the chosen one) walked into a room with pinstripes on, I would still spit on him. If Jesus walked int...thats the ONLY place I draw the line with Pinstripe hatred, even though while writing the post I debated on whether I would spit or not...I mean his father DID give us free will.
  12. I'll take Escobar, better than the other 2 defensively.
  13. Man I wish we would have taken Trout instead of Gibson
  14. Kepler at first? I thought he was an athletic toolsy kid?
  15. The conversation should be less about the speed at which the organization promotes and more about the lack of talent we have had in the system. The past 10 or so years I would say, we haven't signed (latin) or drafted anyone worth promoting through the system at a rapid pace. The jury is still out on Arcia, Hicks, Sano and others signed recently. But after Kubel, there really was no one that we drafted that panned out. This may be the chicken or the egg argument, but I think the front office should be hammered more for drafting poorly, than developing poorly.
  16. Andy Leer. Just doing things the Twins way. Might end up being a good utility guy. Dealt with some injuries this year but played through. BA is under the mendoza line but above the Butera line...so that's something.
  17. Sano, Hicks, and Arciaare not in the conversation. We are a bottom 5 team. Those guys are the guys that will get us out of the cellar. I think the conversion should be abou the guys that will get us prospects back. The hammers value is diminishing as his age and lack of defense hurt. Span's value has taken a hit as he has been injury prone for 2 years now. He will be the guy to go, but Reverre has better value to a team. He is not a leadoff man as he walks far too little. He will be a good number 2 hitter. I see him as the two and hopefully Hicks keeps progressing as a textbook leadoff guy who has a high OBP and can swipe some bases here and there. Also, Perkins and Burton have some good value as hard throwing guys at the back of a bullpen. Mornie, if we eat some of that salary next season, may have some value to a team as a middle of the order basher. Mauer really has little value beause that contract is restricted to 3 maybe 4 teams in the majors. His value is in the number of fans that he brings in to Target field and we NEED him if we want to keep attendance over 40 grand a game.
  18. I apologize for calling 1500 idiots. They clearly are not, they are getting paid to do what we do all day, they live the life. I apologize for calling them idiots.
  19. Yikes, tell me how you really feel. I am going to have to disagree. I think he is funny, savy, and smart in his sports takes. He always keeps things in perspective is always positive. His speaking manurisms are hilarious. 50 shades of PA? Are you serious, I laugh my bum off when I hear that stuff. The guys at 1500, and the afternoon guys on KFAN, just not that good. I am a big non fan of common. If you said this poop tastes bad, he would say this poop taste good. He is a poor man's Colin Cowherd. Guerro is a little more stomachable, but not much. And 1500, Ruesse, has such a winey, icky voice. I just can't listen. I do rarely, like when my choice is death or 1500, I pick 1500 because my life is worth living and the show is better than death, barely.
  20. Souhan is an idiot. I don't know why you would quote him considering that station is not listenable. If you listened to KFAN, or just PA, that is the real news. The other guys in town are just idiots. And they don't talk sports most of the time. I hate turning on a radio station and hearing talk about the Law or talk about pop culture. Why can't we just talk about the twins all day long, throw in some vikings, throw in ALOT of Lynx talk, sprinkle in some Rubio. Boom you've got a full show. Instead we have top 10 lists related to stupid things people do. Get on another station. Minnesota radio is the WORST...except for PA
  21. The NFL Draft
  22. TRADE HIM. Do it while he's hot so we can maximize his value. Get pitching and never look back.
  23. Inept organization? No organization would have moved up an average hitter/sub-average defensive catcher to AAA. If most of you guys could have your way, prospects would spend a month at each level. There is no rush with these guys. Tori Hunter and Denard Span are prime examples of why letting prospects to move up on slowly, not before they are ready, is a good practice. If Herman was the next Joe Mauer, he wouldn't be hitting under .280. In my opinion, he should spend most of the season at AAA next year. His bat will probably be good enough to join the bigs early next season, but this kid needs more time learning how to deal with Major league pitchers behind the plate. Let him call a full season of games at AAA before you call him up. The Twins are not competing next season, why not let him develop more before throwing him to wolves (Wolves being pitchers like Deduno and Frankiefastball).
  24. This may be true but I have facts that support otherwise: 1. Randall Delgado was to be traded for Ryan Dempster (a rental), til Dempster rejected the trade, so he is obviously able to be acquired 2. Jacob Turner (a higher level prospect than Delgado) along with Rob Brantly (a good catching prospect) was traded for Omar Infante and Anibal Sanchez (most likely a rental), so teams will pull the trigger if it makes sense 3. It makes sense because the Braves will have a void at CF/Leadoff with Bourn leaving and they also don't have any good right handed bullpen arms to get to Venters and Kimbrel, along with the fact they are on a limited budget so the salaries will fit. 4. The Braves are stacked in pitching, where will he pitch? They have Tim Hudson, Paul Maholm, Mike Minor, Kris Medlen, Tommy Hanson, Brandon Beachy coming off Tommy John, Julio Teheran (a higher rated, younger prospect) and 3 other top 10 pitching prospects in their organization at AA or higher. 5. Delgado is coming off a year that he struggled and got demoted to AAA. It may require Burton instead of Burnett but I think he's able to be acquired for.. It's not that much of a reach Ok maybe I got a little crazy saying it would also take an A prospect for Delgado. IMO I just think it would take too much for Ryan to pull the trigger on the deal. Atlanta would be a great trade partner as they have plenty of young arms. But I don't think we will be able to swing it. I have a have a sneaky suspicion we will be greatly disappointed by the return we get for Span. BTW, you really backed up your point with data and good points, you would make a great politician JP. You also kind of made me eat my words a little bit. I am going to go take a cold shower and rock back and forth whimpering ever so slightly.
  25. I heard Burt Blylevin on ESPN earlier this season blasting the Nationals and MLB in general about how much these kids (major league pitchers) are getting babied in the minors. He hypothesizes that these kids should be put into a 4 man rotation to build their arm strength up. Maybe that is what we should do with our other pitchers in the minors. Obviously, the guys coming off TJ surgery wouldn't go through this, but it is some food for thought.
