  4. Yikes, did we just wonder into an free market/socialism debate? Damn you Dempster for starting a deeper argument. I don't get what were talking about so I will change the subject...DON'T SIGN DEMPSTER FOR THAT KIND OF DOUGH...MOOLA...MARK...YEN...EURO...POUND...PESO...FRANK...RUPEE...NAIRA...etc. (ps I couldn't think of any more international amounts of monetary values)
  5. Uhh, yes, yes I would. Sanchez is 7 years younger and a significantly better pitcher. I would gladly give him 4/50-52 then 3/42 for Dempster. I would do as high as 5/60-62 for sanchez. Your 5/62 would not even get you a phone call back. This guy is going to get 6 years I would bet money on it. This is the problem with signing top-tier free agents. It just doesn't work. You have to build through your farm system and trades. There is no way any of these guys are worth this amount of money. Dempster for 3 years...at age 35, no chance. Forget it. We need to keep looking for the bargains. We may suck next year, but I'd rather suck with a low payroll than suck a little less with a high payroll. Use that money to resign our guys when they turn into to studs: for example a guy like Meyer is a Boras client. Save that money and try to sign him early for long term (which is probably not going to happen because Boras is the worst thing in baseball).
  6. I love the trade. Span's value will never again be as high as it is right now. He is very injury prone. Guys like Meyer are rarely traded. The Nationals were desperate and gave up a whole lot. People are mad that we are punting on next season, but it is day one of the winter meetings. We could still sign a decent pitcher or two and still compete next season. Baseball is a funny game, the winners of the offseason rarely translates to winners during the regular or post season.
  7. I normally agree with Aaron's take, but that part of the podcast was downright arrogant and insulting to anyone who participates in TD. He actually came across to me (tone) in the same way reporters come across to him when they criticize bloggers.. Of course, he then used those "D" comments as part of his evidence for why John's take on Meyer was wrong (something about TD reaction when John posted that Meyer was a C prospect). Honestly I love the podcast in general and was looking forward to this one, but it may have been one of the toughest to listen to and still haven't finished it. Agreed. I was looking forward to hearing more about meyer and instead got an instruction on how not to argue. John didnt stoop so low but i would have popped a guy if he talked like that about me in front of my face...very disrespectful. There is a way to rip someone without being an a$$ho1e.
  8. Thanks for the soap opera men. John...STOP BREATHING INTO THE MIC.
  9. So does Derrick Williams start? Is 1.12 years to short to call a guy a bust. How can a guy be so big, so athletic, and so strong, be such a bad finisher. My elementary boys finish better than this guy. His head is above the rim yet he misses bunny after bunny. I am in the camp that says stop playing this guy all together. K-love spelled by Cunningham is ok with me. Trade Williams for a 2nd rounder just to free up some cash. I'm sure Michael Jordan would take him.
  10. I say yes actually. If we can sign him to an even better deal than Span we do it. We know what we are getting from this guy. His arm is bad and he has no power. He is a three tool guy, but those three tools are very good. He is a very good fielder, a great basestealer, and will hit for average. I think those three things outweight the fact that he doesn't take walks, doesn't throw well, and has no power (he makes Nick Punto look like Mark McGuire). His value will go up the next few season's as he does it consistantly. Next summer, we flip him and his team friendly deal for another prospect or two. Will he bring back a Meyers type pitching prospect, doubtful, but he may bring back something of use and a B- to C prospect. I am two steps down the road on this one. I think the Twins hold onto Willingham and move Reverre once Hicks and Arcia are up. I am hopeful that Rosario and Sano can stay in the infield, but my instincts tell me that one or both will end up in the OF. That leaves us with even more outfielders than we can handle around 2015ish. Buxton will be ready by 2016 more than likely. Our abundance of OF'ers needs to be turned into a balanced farm system with some power arms. The Span trade was just the beginning, if we work this the right way, we should be able to turn our of'ers into Starting Pitchers, which wins championships.
  11. Whose side are you on here gunnarthor? Don't give them any ideas...we want ACES and we want to get them by trading Span. (I personally would want Meyers or bust) Told you so mofo's
  12. Hockey is huge, but many years the basketball merchandise is nip and tuck for the biggest sellers at Gold Country. Football isn't tremendously popular, but then again, going more retro and bringing out some of the history of the program would make for cool shirts. Something like "My favorite college football team is the last team to win 3 consecutive national championships, and my grandpa was 12 when it happened!" I don't know enough about college sports and the Gophers to even think of ideas for those shirts. To be honest, I kinda hate college sports. I like March Madness and I'd probably get into college hockey if the opportunity arose but I will never be a diehard fan of either. Who cares what you think about college sports...if you run an ice cream business and don't like chocolate, you still carry it. College sports sell merchandise, especially a university with 53,000 students located in the middle of a city with a population of 3,317,308
  13. More people viewed this page than bought lottery tickets last night...fact based analysis.

  15. The way we value our players, that is probably the deal we have been asking for. Span for Strasburg and a B prospect. Oh ya and the Nationals would have to pay half of Strasburg's salary.
  16. If Bourn doesn't sign in Washington, could Span be in their crosshairs. I would think the Nationals would bolster the best outfield in baseball with Span, Werth, something called Bryce Harper. Yikes. I see the Reds as a legit team to deal with. If we could pull away a pitchin prospect and a SS I would be giddy with excitement. Pick one of: Cingrini(LH), Stephenson, or Corcino...and pair him with: Cozart, Hamilton, or Gregorius. Twins could throw in someone like Joe Benson or some other OF prospect not named Arcia, Hicks, or Buxton (or Rosario who may still end up in the OF). Boom!!! Deal done son
  17. This is just 1 team off the market for a CF. We still have trade partners in the Phillies, Reds, Rangers, Rays, and any other team that would like a cheap upgrade in center. Its the middle of the second inning of the offseason...chill

    Mauer Trade:

How many mil are we sending?
  19. He is probably going to battle with those names you mentioned for the 4th and 5th spot. Finding 3 starting pitchers is just too hard to do in one offseason (and most us, me included, want 4 new starters). We might bring in one bigger type name (Haren, Sanchez, etc.) but we may end up with our number 2 signing being a Liriano type guy. I would not be mad if we ended up with Haren, Liriano, and McCarthy. Has anyone guessed we would get both Liriano AND McCarthy? I shall be the first then. We will sign both pitchers for a combined 12 million. I will not say it is a done deal (thrylos) but I will predict it.
  20. Are you kidding me? Plouffe had one of the best 2 month stretches a Twins 3rd baseman has ever had. Now don't pull out your stupid sabre metric junk and tell me he got lucky and all of this stuff. The dude was mashing the ball out of the park. Then he hurt his wrist. He came back and his power was gone...because of a lingering wrist injury. By watching his footwork and arm, he could still be an average defensive 3b. Would you sacrafice a little defense for 20-30 hr's a season and a .300 BA. The dude can mash. I don't see any problem in him holding the for down until Sano is ready. In my estimation this is the order of needs for the Twins this offseason: Starting pitcher, starting pitcher, SS, starting pitcher, 2b, starting pitcher, middle reliever, 3b. This is what we need, in my estimation. I only put third base down to make a point that we need so many more things than a starting third baseman. To recap, give Plouffe another year for 3 reasons: 1. He is cheap and under team control until Sano is up; 2. We don't know if his short burst of power could be legit, or was a steroid induced mirage. 3. We have so many other needs, the idea that a new third basemen is even a top 10 need, is crazytalk. 4. (I just thought of)- We gave Danny Valencia 2+ years for crying out loud and the guy was the biggest ass in Twins history. I heard a first hand account, from one of his Beloit teammates, that he refused to play anywhere other than 3rd base. He would actually tell managers and other players that he was "a thirdbasemen only." It took the twins years to ship him out.
  21. When would critics not be premature? I agree that Terry Ryan deserves more time but I would put out there that if he has not signed a starting pitcher to a guaranteed Major League contract by December 31 I would start thinking this offseason feels like a failure. That is by far the dumbest thing I have ever heard. If a team starts out the season with a sub-500 record, and then wins the world series, is it a failure. If we sign Greinke and Annibal on January 5th will you still have thought it was a failure. Prince Fielder was signed in the Spring last year. You guys need to take a chill pill. You don't judge a book by the first chapter, read the whole thing, then start the bitchin'. To get mad that we haven't signed a star yet, when no one else has done it, is ass9. These are the people that give bad grades for the MLB draft the next day. Patience is a virtue, assuming makes an ass out of me and you...meandusuming.
  22. I would have been happy with Feldmen as a sleeper pick up, but when you pay a guy $6 million it kind of erases the UNDERRATED/SLEEPER label from your title. If the Twins pay a starter $6 million, he's probably going to be expected to 2-3 starter. 6 million isn't gonna get you a #2 or even a top notch #3. Would a "Top Notch #3" be a bottom notch #2?
