  1. Logan (North Dakota): How far off are Trevor May and Eddie Rosario of the Twins? John Manuel: Rosario is close. If we'd debated him more I bet we'd have moved him up from the 130s because of the bat. Not sure where he winds up defensively, that seems to be the biggest question. Trevor May on the other hand did not appear on any Top 150 ballot. Seems like the BA consensus is he's going to wind up in the bullpen due to his repeated issues with throwing strikes. Good arm, but there are a lot of good arms in the minor leagues. Too bad the like button has been removed, because I got a question into the chat...boom. Does this make me a TwinsDaily celeb?
  2. I don't think the Twins had the "aw shucks" philiosophy. All you can ask for is to make to the playoffs every year. Of course you want to win it. Every team has a chance to win the world series once they make it to October, and the best team rarely wins. I would argue that the Twins had the best team back in the AL back in '06 and went in as the hottest. But the playoffs are a different kind of game. Teams like the Giants and the Cardinals always seem to find a way in. They do it with homegrown players. This is the thing that made Minnesota great and the philisophy that will get the Twins back to the playoffs, where anything is possible.
  3. Also only saw a few 80's passed out to any of the top 100. Buxton got an 80 for his speed (but he is not as fast as Billy Hamilton) and Sano got an 80 for raw power. Pretty impressive. Meyer got a 75 ranking for his fastball.
  4. Also interesting that Buxton has a 75 ranking for an arm while Hicks has a 70. I've heard reports that Hicks has one of if not the best arm in the minors.
  5. I'm a little surprised at how high Buxton was ranked. Pleasantly surprised actually.
  6. I will post twins rankings when it drops.
  7. He should be batting baseballs instead of his calf. No wonder it is sore
  8. Appel may be close to the majors, but he also has a ton of upside. Wimmers was close to the majors (alledgedly) and had a much lower ceiling. The reason you draft a guy close to the bigs is usually because the risk is low as is the reward. The Twins have since, or at least in the last two drafts, changed their approach a bit. They have taken alot of projection guys who are going to need time. The downside to that is that we don't have alot of Twins drafted pitching in the upper majors. Hopefully those guys will start getting to the upper levels this year and next. Another problem is that sometimes so much can go wrong with young pitchers between rookie ball and the majors. All in all i like the new strategy.
  9. Dont touch the guy. Boris is an ass. U dont want to waste the number 4 pick on a guy who is asking for over a million over slot. Plus how many 200 inning games does he have
  10. Nice my brother. This thing is catching on. Remember two years ago when everyone was talking about Tsyoshi. People had mixed feelings about him, but I don't think anyone could have seen him been as bad as he was. There is nothing to compare him to because he is the thing you use when using similes (like or as, thanks Mr. Steiner 9th grade English). Expectations were so high that year. Now, we know we are going to be horrible...mind as well get better for the next year instead of trying to be a middle of the road team for the next decade.
  11. Ths years signing period will be much more exciting as we will have more money to work with. Any idea the amount we will get or how it varies from the astros to say...the nationals?
  12. Ok I like to be optimistic too, especially about Twins Prospects, but "best" ...didn't Kirby play center?
  13. For me, it was like that first freezing football practice where your hands are frozen. Then you go inside and tell the guys from dlwn south that u need to immediately put those hands under hot running water. I got that tingly feeling in my head and stomach. Needles. All said tho, this is oneguys opinion and I even read that the twins got a vote from a top executive for most improved al team. Espn even
  14. What would his arm rate on the scale? I know the surgery had to take its toll but I have seen reports of a possible plus arm that fits well in right. Thoughts?
  15. But he does have some super-plus tools. His speed is off the charts anywhere from 70-80 I've seen. He is faster than Revere. Only that skinny kid from Cinci is faster (his name aludes me for the moment). With Buxton you know that he will someday give you elite defense in center. Sure, you don't know whether his hit or power tool will fully develop, but I would say he is a high ceiling high floor guy. The value of a 3rd or 2nd baseman like Olt is not as high as an everyday centerfielder. Also, his arm is has a chance to be a super-tool as he threw 95 off the mound. In conclusion, he may have 3 fully developed tools RIGHT NOW: Arm, Glove, Speed. I would not trade a guy with Micheal Bourn as a floor and Matt Kemp or beyond ceiling for a (albeit top notch) 3rd/2nd baseman prospect near the bigs. (Full Disclosure: I am a huge Buxton fan)
  16. Mauer's contract had to be done. We would all have complained if it wasn't done, even though most of us complain that it was. One thing that wasn't discussed when he was signed, that is being discussed about players now, is inflation. With the value of the dollar obviously going down with the constant printing of money...his deall will keep looking less and less troublesome. Especially with the new 20-25 million dollars each team will recieve yearly with the new television deal MLB is (or has already) signed. The next 30 million dollar man is in our near future and had Mauer stayed a free agent, he may have been paid much more and gotten close to that 30 mil a year mark.
  17. Site your source. I will except wikipedia but you must use MLA format when citing said website.
  18. Nope. I wouldn't trade Buxton for anyone minus a top line starter like Dylan Bundy (of course the Orioles wouldn't take that deal but that is what I would need to get rid of Buxton).
  19. Are the other 28 teams also not trying? They also passed on claiming this guy. I understand if you do not agree with what the twins do but to headline a forum with "not trying" is absurd. Even philly fans are not this negative.
  20. Great read. He didn't dodge questions. Good time to be a scout with high picks in the past year and near future (next year more than likely too)
  21. Sounds better than I hope he has an above average obp+ with a solid iso power rating. The article wasn't for twins daily but a newspaper and since only gpas read newspapers with there morning viagra and oj, using saber stats would have been a bad idea.
  22. Ya poor Span and how the hitting instructors ruined his swing. The guy is a staring mlb centerfielder. Span is a stubborn child so of course he thougjt as a kid they were ruining his swing. Now the guy is making bank and it is because the twins instructors changed the swing he found. Newsflash: these guys have been developing the best young centerfielder s for decades. Puckett, hunter, span, revere, hicks, and soon buxton. Sounds like span should be grateful that the twins drafted him and took time to develop him. Other organizations wouldnt have been as patient with him.
  23. Talk about optimistic...IF he falls to us and IF he flies through the system he MIGHT improve the team before 2015. YIKES
  24. Most lists ive seen have had chargios pretty high. His floor seems to be a formidable late inning guy. The floor on alot of pitchers is more loe not maoing it out of the minors.
