  1. Josh Johnson I can see coming here. I personally would like to see them give Hughes a contract similar to Corrira's and maybe add some incentives because he is younger than almost any of the FA pitchers and he's a fly ball pitcher which would be a good fit at TF. They need to do something with the atrocious hitting. I've followed baseball my whole life and cannot remember so many hitters batting not even below .250 but in the .210-.230's. Almost the entire team has those batting averages. They make the Gagne's, Lombo's, Pags, etc look like all stars. Absolutely horrible. Imagine if they could hit .250 where'd this team be. Also, I don't understand the ripping on Corrira. He's been our best pitcher this season especially the last couple outings. If any of us on TD would've said ERA 4.50 +/- in the AL coming from NL when the signing occurred, we all would've been estatic.
  2. The key to getting the ball down in the zone is to get on top of the ball. Obviously, easier said than done. But as a HS pitching coach, I have to evaluate a bunch of kids with horrible mechanics that their summer coaches have taught them. Getting the ball out of the glove is the primary thing do and to do this right, a pitcher needs to do this. Keep the glove and pitching hand down by the belly button. By doing this, the throwing hand has to "go up" which makes it easier to get on top. DO NOT LIFT hands with leg lift as this will make it difficult to get on top quicker and not lag behind. The less motion, the more liklihood to be able to repeat the mechanics. I haven't seen his motion and cannot comment exactly what he does, but I bet his hand placement could be better as well as his motion itself and make it more compact.

    Mauer Trade:

Trade Mauer to the Red Sox along with Plouffe and Escobar or Florimon for 1: Middlebrooks 3B 2: Swihart SH C 3: Barnes SP 4: Buchholz SP 5: Bogaerts SS 6: Saltalamachia C All of these players would fill some need and the only players on their active roster are Buchholz, Middlebrooks, and Salty. If you could get this "hall", I think you would have to consider it.

  5. He has to be tired of these one year deals. You could go up to 2/yr and 20 mil with the third year option. I just think he would be willing to sign a multi-year deal for slightly less than go year to year like he has been. Security has to mean something especially since he dumped Boras. Boras was obviously hurting him.
  6. He dropped Boras as his agent this past summer. Sign him to a 2/year deal worth 16 mil and have a third year option based off of starts/innings/whatever other stat. Not having Boras, he should be a little easier to sign. I still think you could sign Liriano too from the discount rack. 1/yr and 4-5 mil.
  7. Give Baker an incentive laden contract with a team option for 2014. Sign Pavano to a minor league deal or one year incentive deal. Go get at least one if not two FA pitcher(s) like Jackson/Marcum/etc. As far as I concerned, only two pitchers should be a lock. Diamond and Duduno with Duduno having a short leash. Trade Blackburn and Benson to teams that have similar issues to these players and see if a change of scenery will help both sides. There has to be a major league pitcher with the same contract numbers of Blackburn. There also has to be some good prospects from other teams that had a bad year like Benson; lets trade with them. I think our offense is adequate. I think Morneau will have a break out year. If he does, now we move Mauer to the 2 hole where he should be. The bad thing, is higher payroll teams also need pitching and will outbid the Twins on the players that have been mentioned in many of the recent blogs.
  8. Pay him his buyout of 250K and then try to sign him to an incentive laden deal. 2 years/4 million with bonuses that could reach 1-1.5 million/year. I really like the possibility of Capps in the 7th, Burton 8th, and Perkins being the closer. Now mix in the younger guys and that looks pretty good! Bullpen set for next year and not a lot of $$$$$$. Now go get a starter or two.
  9. He's 6-1 in his last 10 starts with a 2.54 ERA. Should reallly be a no-brainer. Take over Pavano's salary. Who cares about the number of HRs as long as he gets outs. Bert Blyleven gave up a lot of HRs too and he's in the HOF.
  10. Edwin Jackson has to be tired of signing these 1 year deals all the time. He has to get the to point where some sort of multi-year deal that's halfway reasonable he would consider. He/Boras has to know that teams aren't lining up for his client "to get the big money" so any 2-3 deal in the 8-10 mill/year they would have to consider. This year he signed for 11 or 12 mil on a 1 year deal. Give up a little money per year average for 3 years. Never know.
  11. If we (the Twins) don't get a nice package of prospects for Liriano, then we keep him and offer him arbitration. We go out a sign Edwin Jackson for 2-3 years at 8-9 mil a year (like Pavano got). Diamond for the 3 spot. Gibson 4 spot. Blackburn, Hendricks, Baker. Heck, even bring back Pavano for 1-2 mil with bonuses. I think you could be really competitve with these pitchers in the Central. We might even be able to sign Greinke if the Pohlads can dig into there pocker like the Wild. I think you could get Greinke for 18-20 mil for 4-5 years. Morneau is off the books the year after next and it looks like we have some help in Parmalee for 1B.
