  1. Every football game has players pushing and punching each other after the play, usually b/c someone is celebrating their physical achievement over somebody else.
  2. And cartoons ...
  3. Just so long as your rip the other sports for the same thing.
  4. And, here is a nice one where he goes first to third on a come backer to the pitcher: http://m.mlb.com/video/v32283845/cinpit-hamilton-uses-speed-to-score-run-for-reds/?player_id=571740
  5. I might be adding to this thread all through the year. Ever see anyone beat out a grounder to first before? Me neither. http://m.mlb.com/video/v32234949/cinchc-hamilton-beats-rizzo-for-an-infield-single
  6. Man, thank God it was a server problem. I came to the cite this morning and saw the thread I put up on Bryce Harper was gone and thought "Man, what did I do to get banned this time?"
  7. No, they aren't and some type of them exist in every sport/game.
  8. I love the unwritten rules part of baseball. Turbow's book on it was fantastic. Here is his post on it: http://thebaseballcodes.com/2014/04/19/bo-knows-no-such-thing-as-too-early-when-it-comes-to-well-timed-bunts/
  9. It's early but the Twins are leading the league in walks and only Colabello doesn't have a solid k/bb ratio (4/14). Even Hicks has a nice 9/16.
  10. That's great to see. Right now, I'm pretty confident Kolek, Aiken and Rodon will be off the board for us. So I'd like both Hoffman and Jackson to do well so we can nab the one the Cubs don't.
  11. True. On the other hand, the draft is littered with high upside guys with 98 mph fastballs who didn't make it, either. (Hello, Shooter Hunt). And Radcliff did have some success in later rounds drafting guys like Baker (2nd), Slowey (3rd), Duensing (3rd), Swarzak (2nd), Blackburn (36th) who had limited ceilings but maybe better floors. But the Twins will clearly draft whoever they think is BPA.
  12. Twins HOF? First vote. Baseball HOF? It'll take a few years.
  13. But they've also been stocking up these last few years on intl pitchers, as well. Anyhow, I like Reetz as a second round pick. Sounds like he'll stick at catcher.
  14. I was going to go into more in-depth here but it really isn't necessary and this thread is gone. Most of the articles I linked reference some of the things you raise. Sociologists have known for years that, even taking into account variables like economics and upbringing, minorities are still more likely to be targeted by police than whites.
  15. I think Jackson has moved to the top of my wish list at this point.
  16. This thread went to hell.
  17. That there is covered up racism in our society? Tons of information on it. For instance, cops see black kids as older than they are. Our education system punishes minority kids at a much higher rate than white kids, even in pre-school programs. Our justice system punishes minorities more often and harder than whites. This is a nice article by ACLU of MN board member Bill Pentalovch on that problem in MPLS. And this is a nice opinion piece addressing the idea that we should ignore racism now because it's not that bad.
  18. Not really surprising but certainly depressing: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2014/04/14/jackie-robinson-day-mlb-hank-aaron-racism-still-exists/7723045/
  19. Not a huge surprise but this article suggests that the White Sox are looking to take a pitcher with their #3 pick. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/cws/white-sox-taking-time-to-prepare-for-draft?ymd=20140414&content_id=72047458&vkey=news_cws
  20. Trevor May didn't have a great start yesterday against the Red Sox AAA team. 4.1, 5 h (all singles), 4er, 4k, 2bb. He did have 4 ground outs against one fly ball out so maybe he was unlucky.
  21. I'd be happy with Jackson, Hoffman and Beede all on the board at #5.
  22. Stewart was much farther away but some scouts liked him more than Appel and Gray. I don't think it was a "significant drop." (And BA ranked Appel 39 and Stewart 52. Stewart might actually have a bit higher ceiling).
  23. I suppose but the Crawford piece was the first real negative I've read about Hoffman. I'd like to know more about that but I still like him.
  24. Actually, the Twins haven't really drafted the Twins way since Johnson took over. The fact that Gibson is the only Twins pitcher to make the majors in that time might make you rethink your position - Gutierrez, Hunt, Bashore, Bullock, Tootle etc. A lot of those guys were big time strike out pitchers that were a little wild. I'm actually terrified of a Beede pick at this point.
  25. Agreed. Right now I think I'm starting to lean toward Jackson falling to us but I think I have the guys ranked like this: Aiken, Rodon, Kolek, Jackson, Hoffman, Beede.
