  1. Callis last mock has no surprises - Twins take Gordon (but would love Rodon or Aiken to fall) http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/mock-draft-jim-callis-picks-for-the-first-round?ymd=20140605&content_id=78353170&vkey=news_mlb
  2. Best rumor of the day - Manual at BA: "One scouting source in the top 10 believed both San Diego prep players, Aiken and Rancho Bernardo’s Alex Jackson, were falling to the back of the top 10 due to signability questions." If Aiken was there at #5 ... Anyway, Manual's mock has us taking Gordon. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/mock-draft-5-0-aiken-looks-like-no-1/
  3. Yeah but St Louis won't give him away and I don't really want to give up anything of real value for him.
  4. It's SSS - he'll take a few more walks but right now pitchers are throwing him stuff he can drive so he's driving.
  5. Don't forget May. He's a legit arm that the Twins will plug into the rotation for years. A year ago, even while he was struggling, an unnamed FO person told Reusse that May would be that innings eater that Radke used to be.
  6. Yeah, Liriano is like that crazy ex. You still really like that weekend you took in Mexico but all that other crap you put up with ...
  7. BP last mock - http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=23785 Twins taking Nola with Aiken, Rodon, Kolek and Gordon going 1-4.
  8. If, as rumored, one of Rodon or Kolek is there at #5, I can't see the Twins passing on them. Should be an interesting night though. Brian Anderson at #46 seems like a reach (on the little I know). MLBpipeline has him ranked 121. But he is a MI and if they take Kolek in the first round I'd be ok with Anderson in the second. But I don't see them taking Gordon and then a guy like Anderson.
  9. Has anyone seen any rumors about who the Twins want at 46?
  10. Yeah, it really seems impossible for Rodon to slip by the Cubs. They need pitching and, from what I've read, he's #1 on their board. Probably doesn't slip that far either. The best hope for the Twins is that Houston does something stupid and Miami takes Jackson which would leave one of the 3 pitchers to fall to us. But that seems pretty unlikely.
  11. Yep, you're right. I was looking at fangraphs and it looks like the only list minor league numbers since 2006.
  12. I figure he has at least 5 more A+ starts. If he's still killing it like this at the end of the month, he forces their hand.
  13. I think that's a fair assessment from the Royals side but how about the opposite? The Rays were 90+ win team giving up a front end starter when they were (arguably) trying to win a WS. Would you give up 2006 Santana for Delmon Young (BA #1 prospect)? Obviously not but it would have been a comparable trade at the time - Santana was slightly better than Shields, of course, but Young was a better prospect than Myers. And Young's ETA was the same year. Twins, like Rays, knew they couldn't hang onto Santana in a few years.
  14. Remember how negative posters were when they drafted him?
  15. If anyone is interested, you can march with the ACLU in this years pride parade. http://www.aclu-mn.org/get-involved/events/ You get a free t-shirt that looks like this: https://www.facebook.com/aclumn/photos/a.10150564850296476.391739.75611556475/10152143116476476/?type=1&theater I've marched the last two years. It's pretty fun and it's a very colorful day, to say the least.
  16. Yeah, they won't pass on Rodon. The ideal draft for the Twins would be something like this: Astros save money by taking Gordon or Touki or someone Marlins jump on Jackson White Sox take Kolek Cubs choose between Aiken/Rodon and Twins take the other.
  17. It's amazing. Stewart was the youngest pitcher in the league and Thorpe is 13 months younger than him.
  18. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/11021397/jon-singleton-signs-long-term-deal-houston-astros
  19. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/mlb/news/20140602/justin-morneau-colorado-rockies/?eref=sihp Man I hope he makes the all-star team this year.
  20. Here's mlbpipeline's report on Romero: "Romero has the stuff to be a starter. How much he can transition from being a thrower to a pitcher will determine if he can reach that ceiling. The Dominican teenager can light up a radar gun, has plus action on his breaking ball and he has a workable changeup. The most consistent hard thrower in the system other than Alex Meyer, Romero could have a 70 fastball out of the bullpen, and his approach and style point to a life as a future reliever. He's starting to understand what it takes preparation and conditioning wise to be successful long-term, and he is realizing that there's more to his craft than just throwing hard. The Twins will let Romero start for now, try to get him innings and increase his pitchability in the hopes a starter can emerge, but a career as a setup man is more likely"
  21. Cool, good luck to Thorpe. Too bad about Jorge.
  22. Just looking at the Twins playoff teams and what they had, by the chart. 02 - one #3 (Reed), one #4 (Lohse), one #5 (Milton). Naturally, this group beat the 103 win A's. Radke and Mays both missed a good chunk of the season but started 3 of the playoff games. 03 - One #3 (Radke), two #4 (Lohse and Rogers). Santana didn't make the innings limit to make this list but was the best pitcher. 04 - One #1 (Santana), Two#2 (Radke - and his 5.8 WAR is nearly enough to be a #1 - and Silva), and one #5 (Lohse). Pretty good pitching but lost two extra inning games that post season. 06 - One #1 (Santana), one #4 (Radke), one #5 (Silva who was -1 WAR). Radke just made the innings cutoff but pitched with big shoulder injury. Liriano didn't meet the innings requirment but was damn good. Bonser had a solid 100 inning season and started game 2. 08 - (ok, it was the 163 game season but whatever). One #2 (Baker), one #4 (Blackburn). Slowey and Perkins both just miss the innings requirement. 09 - Two #3 (Baker and Blackburn). Good bullpen. 10 - Two #2 (Liriano and Pavano), one #4 (Baker). Slowey and Blackburn both just missed the innings limit.
  23. Bringing some of this discussion back up but does anyone think the Rays were wrong to make the trade? I'm not arguing they didn't get the better longterm deal - or at least should have - but rather they gave up a win-now chance for an unknown future. Myers was OK for them in part time play but they probably could have gotten roughly equal production or so from other areas. And this year Myers is slumping and now hurt. Meanwhile, without Shields in their rotation, they had to give 170+ innings (and negative WAR) to Jeremy Hellickson, who also got a playoff start. Maybe the Rays could have beaten the Red Sox if they had Shields for game 1?
  24. Sure, if Gatewood is there at #46, grab him. But I don't think he'll fall that far. (Unless two many teams think he's Brandon Wood ...)
