  1. I think that's a bit of an overstatement. They certainly tried to make a few relief pitchers into starters but not all. Corey Williams - who might have had the best stuff - stayed a relief pitcher. And some of the relief pitchers got stretched out just to work on stuff but they were never expected to be starters at the ML level.
  2. I like this pick. Gordon and Burdi both probably slot in the Twins top 10. Burdi sets up Perkins for a few years and then replaces him. Not a bad second round pick. Also, I totally called it in the run up threads - constantly saying we'd take him if he were to fall to 46.
  3. Why wouldn't he be part of the future teams? We have control of him for 6 years at a minimum. The team should be a contender in a few years with the Sano/Buxton foundation. Burdi profiles as an easy replacement for Perkins at the back end of the pen. A lot of the draft guru's had Burdi as the best relief arm in the draft. That's not a bad pick at #46.
  4. I think he's just a good value guy there but I don't think the Twins see him as a starter. We drafted him 3 years ago. The Twins like his stuff. I think he'll end up being a set up guy by next season.
  5. A lot of mocks had Burdi going #21 to Detroit. Nothing wrong with getting him here.
  6. They aren't going to make him a starter. He's a power set-up guy and will eventually take over when Perkins is gone.
  7. Burdi. Well, we picked him before
  8. I'd like Reid-Foley to drop to us.
  9. This means nothing but I like how his interviews and taped stuff for mlb went. Seemed like a nice guy who was dedicated to baseball. Some of those other interviews made those guys look like future frat boys.
  10. 4th or 5th - depending how you view Stewart.
  11. I really like this guy - seems like a nice young man. Good character.
  12. So it looks like Twins will get to choose between Jackson and Gordon - I bet they take Gordon
  13. I don't think the Cubs will pass on him
  14. So, this draft is setting up nicely for Chicago ....
  15. live stream of the draft is at http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/draft/y2014/watch-live/
  16. Maybe they think Nola's a #2.

  18. That's a good quote and a good reminder that the system is pretty strong, even with the front line injuries and last years graduations. Adding another top starter or legit shortstop is just gravy. Twins will probably have at least 6 top 100 guys next year (Buxton, Sano, Stewart, #5, Berrios, Thorpe). Maybe more.
  19. It's part of Comcast's plan to get you a better internet
  20. They have him at #6.
  21. Not really. Just take BPA regardless of position. Twins arguably are a little light on impact hitters in the low minors so that would actually sway me more than how the draft is sitting but I'd still prefer BPA.
  22. On the fip thing, I suspect people are looking at more than one stat to judge him. For instance, Liriano has a negative WAR (again). He's just maddeningly inconsistent. I wasn't kidding about the crazy ex analogy. I was sick of the queasiness from watching him. 2010 was nice and all but 09, 11-12 were gut wrenching. And now he's back to it. I'm just ready to move on.
  23. My guess is some of that is coming from other teams. The cubs might have talked to him about signing for X amount to save some latter but he indicated to them that the Twins will sign him for a bit more than X. Something like that.
