  1. I absolutely love stuff like this. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/dc-sports-bog/wp/2014/08/10/bryce-harper-drags-foot-through-braves-logo-making-braves-fans-real-mad/ On his way to the batter's box, Bryce Harper completely by accident, he swears, smeared the "A" logo behind the Atlanta catcher. Three times. This just makes rivalries better. Edit: mlb.com has better video but when I linked it is says "unavailable" so I linked the Washington Post story which isn't as good.
  2. Per mlbtraderumors and Wolfson, the Twins have gotten offers in the 1-1.5m range for Kris Johnson from teams "overseas" but have not agreed to trade him. https://twitter.com/DarrenWolfson/status/498637315175354368
  3. I'm pretty curious to see the return on Correia. Ryan got a solid return on Butera last year but this says PTBNL or cash so it might not be that good. In any event, good luck to KC in LA.
  4. Yeah, but no one is dumb enough to base results on one start. And you should include BB%
  5. Not really sure if that is true. I mean, he's walked 8 batters in his last 10 innings. Sure, his one start after the break wasn't as bad as the one before it but May has certainly shown much better control - both recently and all year.
  6. Every manager treats every player differently. Gardy, Maddon, TK. All of them. I certainly don't remember Gardy blaming entire seasons on Valencia but I do remember Gardy played Valencia all the time - he led the team in at bats in 2011 despite having neg WAR. I don't remember constantly making comments about Hicks although I do remember him playing him despite his bad numbers and defending him in the press. If you think Gardy is mean to rookies because he sometimes admits to obvious faults in the player - like Brendon Harris doesn't have the range to play short (which he did say) - then I don't think you'll ever find a manager that is "nice" to young players. Heck, Maddon's comments on Myers were a lot more targeted than Gardy's on Hicks. Gardy's comments and treatment of players is mild and his career has shown he's had to rely on young players most of the time. For example, in 06 Jose Mijares became his key setup man down the stretch despite no ML innings.
  7. Yeah, I used to hope that Ozzie and Gardy would manage/bench coach the same team. Get them miked up and enjoy the show. Could be the best comedy on TV.
  8. Yeah, the Gardy is mean to youngsters thing is such BS. What exactly has Gardy done in the press? He was somewhat critical of Hicks although a the complete reading of the article his comments were pretty tame and that's the only "mean" thing I can think of. He routinely praises young guys (Hicks included), including guys not up here yet. Most of Gardy's teams were incredibly young. The Nats manager pulled Bryce Harper for not running out a grounder to the pitcher, Gardy hasn't done that. Joe Maddon told the press that Wil Myers had to work on his defense and needed to focus on baseball all the time and not give away at bats. The Mets manager said something similar about Wheeler and was accused of throwing him under the bus by the media. Ron Washington made a pitcher give him the ball "the right way" when he pulled him from a game. Boston is playing super rookies Betts and Bogaerts out of position after placing a mediocre vet in front of Bogaerts.
  9. I'd be stunned if Ryan fired Gardy. My belief is that eventually Dougie Baseball replaces Gardy but it's a few years down the line. I also think keeping Gardy is a good thing. And I suspect this thread blows up.
  10. Brennan Boesch had his bat fly into the stands twice in a row. He apparently hit a little girl with the first one. The crowd was really on him after the second one. http://deadspin.com/brennan-boesch-flings-bat-in-stand-on-consecutive-swing-1616886551
  11. Let's see how he does with AAA before we have him in the majors again. One step at a time.
  12. That was fun. Polanco was a really underrated player. From 2001-2010 he was pretty much a 4 WAR player every year.
  13. Baseball is about the only sport I even care about anymore. Don't watch hockey or basketball. Watch maybe half the Viking games if I can't find anything better to do. But I do watch probably 90% of the Twins games.
  14. ESPN posted this, but 21 years ago was the Ryan/Ventura brawl, easily one of the most memorable events in baseball history. The Baseball Codes book by Jason Turbow has a big section on this brawl but basically Ryan hit Ventura on purpose. White Sox players had been pretty upset at Ryan's "Old School" mentality coming into the game (he had hit some players previously) and had decided as a group that, if someone was hit, they would charge the mound. If you watch Ventura's reaction after he was hit, he started walking to first when he remembered he was supposed to charge, so he has a "oh, wait" moment right before he charges the mound. Anyhow, when the brawl was all done, the umps didn't eject Ryan. http://m.mlb.com/video/v12745349/cwstex-robin-ventura-nolan-ryan-confrontation/?query=Nolan%2BRyan%2BRobin%2BVentura
  15. So I haven't updated this in a bit, frankly since he went on the DL. He started last night, didn't have his best game but he did throw 99 pitches so he's stretched out again. I expect he'll be in the majors in the next week or so. On the season, he is 8-6, 2.93 era, 95.1ip, 91k, 37bb, 1.175 whip. Hopefully he gets 10 starts or so up here. He shouldn't be on any innings limit (unlike Meyer) so he could throw close to 200 between AAA/ML if the Twins wanted him to. And with missing a month and a few rainouts, he won't come close to that. So he's in good shape.
  16. The ideal situation would be for Hicks to hit like he has been at AA when he gets to AAA. If he can carry that over, a future outfield of Hicks/Buxton/Arcia could be pretty good. In the meantime, Santana will get another 600 AB or so to prove he belongs at the ML level, mostly at CF and SS. If he turns out to be a .280/.350/.380 hitter, the team will find a spot for him. As for LF next year, I'd be happy if the Twins tried to address it or 3B with a good free agent - Markakis, Cruz, Big Panda, or hoping for a bounce back from someone like Colby Rasmus. But they might turn it over to Parmelee.
  17. Not sure. Abreau will come in first and Springer second. Bogaerts and Bradley (Boston rookies) will get lots of votes. Kevin Keirmaier is having a nice season for TB. Santana might get a few votes depending on how many players a voter can vote on but i think he'd probably come in 5th or later on most ballots.
  18. Seems like a simple move. He's certainly not going to start but he could be a decent defensive replacement/pinch runner for a bit. And if the Twins are giving people shots, isn't a former top 50 prospect who is only 27 the kind of guy you'd want them giving shots too? I guess I don't really get why we should complain about such a basic stop gap move.
  19. I hope Hicks gets to AAA this year. He's really doing well at AA and probably time for him to see some better pitchers.
  20. My guess is this is a last shot from the FO and if they can't come to an agreement, they'll trade him in a few hours.
  21. This is great. I remember reading about these shirts a few years ago. Glad they are still around. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/07/29/caucasians-t-shirts-are-hot-sellers-on-canadian-indian-reservations/
  22. I'm not sure shoulder injuries are better than elbow injuries. Hopefully he's ok.
