  1. Wow, we're really going to make another thread about Hunter's defense?
  2. Never heard of that (haven't read comics in 15 years, sadly). Googled it at work. Might have been a mistake.
  3. I think the Hicks trade is because, if he doesn't make it to the majors, the team would probably have to clear room on the 40 man roster for a few other bodies - Boyer (if he makes the team), Fryer (if Pinto isn't back), Robinson (if he makes the team). So there will be some roster issues to make. But, yeah, I hope they don't give up on Hicks yet.
  4. http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/297601151.html Reusse brings up some questions about Arcia - "Molitor hasn’t flat-out said it, and General Manager Terry Ryan hasn’t flat-out said it, but others have: The persistence of wasted at-bats and poor play in the outfield have made Arcia a sizable disappointment this spring. Excuses can be made that Arcia had a stomach problem for a week, and that he has been flipped from right field to left, but the fact is, there has been no more consistency, no more maturity in Ozzie’s game, than when he batted .231 with 127 strikeouts in 372 at-bats last season. As a 21-year-old, he had a stroke to the ball that was short, quick, powerful, wonderful, and then he hit some bombs at Target Field, and heard the cheers, and enjoyed the journeys around the bases, and now he has this long swing with a wild finish, and he’s often futile against lefties, and what has to be done for Ozzie to be the standout hitter that most everyone thought he would become?" And he even suggests that the Twins could go with Rosario over Arcia in left field.
  5. And a cynic might suggest that Batgirl comic sales increased as a result of all the media attention.
  6. The sanest possible GOP candidates, in order: Bush Graham Christie Jindal (when he's not acting crazy for votes) Walker Rubio Paul Santorum (he's running) Cruz This sure isn't the GOP of Arlen Specter anymore.
  7. http://www.si.com/mlb/video/2015/03/25/rising-stars-byron-buxton-minnesota-twins Nice little piece on Buxton with interviews from SI writers, Ryan and Hunter.
  8. Nice article. Gibson has been listed as a break out guy by Schonfield at ESPN (along with Arcia) and an article at hard ball times. Don't have the links for either but both noted his ground balls and his strange splits - he had some clearly dominating games to go with some absolute stinkers.
  9. I don't think that's fair. Some scouts were on record saying that Stewart was the best pitcher in the draft. Crawfishboxes had an article on that here. mlbtraderumors had similar quotes and Klaw supported the idea of taking Stewart #1. And Bryant wasn't the concensus #1 guy, like Harper or Strasburg were. He was #3 on mlbpipeline's draft list, not #1. Obvioustly, in hindsight, he's the clear #1 but he wasn't at the time. But hindsight kills every draft. And there's this old report from mlbtraderumors that the Twins would be "pleased" if Bryant fell to them, moreso than if Appel did.
  10. My first thought on this was that TF was perfectly made for Dozier's swing - and hurts Mauer's. But Dozier's home/road splits are nearly identical so maybe it isn't as simple as that. But clearly, RH pull power is being rewarded a bit for him. I'm probably a bit down on Mauer compared to most but and don't think he'll make the adjustments necessary to hit much better than a .080 iso at this point. But if he can get on-base at a .400 clip again, he should be fine.
  11. I think it's ok to root for a better draft position although this year I'm rooting for a .500ish season. On Bryant, I think there are two real questions - 1) did the Twins have him ahead of Appel, Grey and Stewart on their own board? 2) Would the Twins have drafted a Boras client that high? I'm not sure on #1 but would assume they had Bryant #1 or 2, IIRC the rumors. Pretty sure they had Appel #1 but I do believe they had Stewart ahead of Grey so maybe they really liked Stewart. As to #2, they did draft Ryan Eades so they have taken some Boras guys so maybe that's a fake concern on my part.
  12. Duke's Matuella had a good outing this week and looks to go in the top 5 again. That's good news for us, although he won't slide to #6, because he's making the draft a bit deeper - which is needed with injuries to Aiken and Allard. There have been/still are questions about whether Matuella can stick as a starter or is better suited to relief but for now it looks like he can start. He's probably more a #2 than a true ace but looks to be gone by the time we draft. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/dukes-michael-matuella-returns-to-top-5-pick-form/
  13. And the man keeps giving. With his wife leaving Goldman Sachs for the duration of his Presidential run, he'll get his health insurance covered through ... wait for it ... Obamacare. http://www.cnn.com/2015/03/24/politics/ted-cruz-obamacare/index.html He also will be taking the large subsidies only given to lawmakers and their staff to make it more affordable to him. He will continue to try and get rid of Obamacare so that others can't take advantage of it. Seriously, **** this guy.
  14. McDaniel had a prospect/draft chat at fangraphs - http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/kiley-mcdaniel-prospects-chat-32415/ A few notes: He said the three best college arms (counting junior college) are Tate, Matuella and, surprisingly, Bickford. He's worried about Aiken and views the silence as a bad sign. Thinks Lewis Thrope will need TJ surgery.
  15. Seems like a good deal for both sides. Twins (if Dozier is still good) will get some sort of compensation when/if he leaves and he gets to still be young enough to get a good deal in FA.
  16. The other one was getting long - so maybe time for a new one? In any event, Klaw tweeted that Aiken might make his next start, although it isn't official. I wonder if it's possible that Aiken psyched himself out a bit and over reacted to anything strange in his arm. For the last year, he's probably had thousands of people troll his twitter or any article on him about how his arm will fall off. In any event, if Klaw is right, it's good news for the Twins
  17. I know Cruz isn't a serious candidate and he's doing this for the money that he'll end up raking in long down the road but how lazy is it that he couldn't buy tedcruz.com?
  18. Well, sure. But the issue is whether other teams are willing to buy him now as a starter as opposed to a UI guy.
  19. Other than fans though, no one really thinks this. Klaw, Callis, McDaniel have all defended teams that waited to see if R&R works first.
  20. Nice article. How much did Davis sign for? Hopefully the team can get lucky with a few of these guys.
  21. Pretty sure he meant reputable prospect list. Cripes, one of those lists has Polanco as our #2 prospect. That's pretty crazy.
  22. http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/blogs/297126601.html Basically, he isn't overly concerned with Meyer (and Tonkin) not being on the opening day roster. I'm usually called a FO apologist and I really wanted Meyer on the opening day roster so it's sorta strange to see Souhan being the calm person. "Meyer. Tonkin. Miguel Sano. Eddie Rosario. Josmil Pinto. Maybe even Byron Buxton. All could play key roles for the Twins this season, and all have been or probably will be optioned to the minors during camp. The Opening Day roster is a function of the front office's hope. It hopes Aaron Hicks will prove he deserves to be an every day player. It hopes that Mike Pelfrey, or Tommy Millone, or Trevor May can hold down the fifth spot in the rotation. It hopes the team will stay relatively healthy. By May 1, or June 1, you will have a much better idea of the best big-league roster the Twins can muster than you will on Opening Day."
  23. I don't think that's quite right. IIRC, the 2013 farm system was top 5, 2014 was usually considered #1 (despite Hicks, Gibson, Arcia all graduating) and this year it's somewhere in the 1-3 range, depending on who you check with. (This year, Pinto, Santana and Vargas all lost rookie eligibility. May still has his).
  24. Well, in fairness to them, the Twins had the most points but they still ranked two other systems ahead of them.
