  1. Thanks. Hopefully he can make it to the big leagues.
  2. Sure, we all agree that they don't have the aces in the system anymore but that doesn't mean they're a bottom five system for SP, either. Mejia, for example, is a ML-ready back end starter. The real kind, not the Albers kind. So, again, where is this ranking you are finding?
  3. Different era. Jones and Kielty hit HR at about the same pace that year. WAR has many, many flaws but Ortiz was 16th on the team in WAR that year. He got better when he juiced.
  4. Essentially, I think Romero, Mejia, Jorge and Wells have pitched well enough to give us some depth without considering the SP who haven't thrown a pitch yet (Gonsalves, Thorpe, Ynoa) or are struggling (Stewart).
  5. I think this statement is probably false but I haven't looked at all the other teams systems. On what basis do you have the Twins that low?
  6. Looks like Burdi is getting his one inning at a time thing. I don't think Wimmers would take innings from him or Melo. I think Wimmers and Bard are about the same place as 'prospects' go so I don't really care if one or the other goes.
  7. Hey, look, a couple posts above you. We already discussed Santana.
  8. Yeah, Pedro probably used. Most of the greats of the roid era probably used. If a player put up video game numbers in that era, he probably used. Your "logic" is essentially that you want a failed drug test - other than the one that was leaked. That doesn't exist so far as we know. We do know from interviews from people involved in mlb drug testing that a large number of players used, we know that use was determined in large part by locker room connections and off-season training. We know that Ortiz continued to train with one of the few people MLB actually banned from the game because of PEDs. We know that Ortiz initially blamed his positive test result on mislabeling in the D.R. before he changed his story (which he did several times). We know that Ortiz's baseball skills changed so much that there isn't much historical comparisons for him. We know he broke 60 year old home run records in an era where nearly every broken HR record was tainted. So, yeah, he juiced. It would be far more shocking if he didn't juice.
  9. Admittedly, this is funny in an "oh, ****" way but I still laughed. "National Security Council officials have strategically included Trump's name in 'as many paragraphs as we can because he keeps reading if he's mentioned,' according to one source, who relayed conversations he had with NSC officials." http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/17/politics/donald-trump-russia-comey/index.html
  10. I think Santana used PEDs to extend and improve his career like many players. I like that he hasn't blamed his failures earlier in his career on others. As to Ortiz, since he was working out with Angel Presinal in 2006, I think that answers your question.
  11. I'd like to see that too but the Pohlads hired a guy who came from an organization that specifically didn't rely on FA. Until the Pohlads actually spend more than 4/45 in fA, I don't think we should expect it.
  12. Ryan spent his whole international budget, every year. It's ridiculous to compare the Twins to the Cubs, a team with a 200m payroll last year. They have resources and advantages that destroy any credible comparison. Compare the Twins to Cleveland. That's fair and that's the org we took Falvey from. He's going to mimic them. My guess is that the Twins won't trade Santana unless they crater. He's signed to a good deal and what we want back for him - top pitching close to the majors - is something a team that needs Santana isn't likely to have. Santiago might get moved since he's a FA at the end of the year but I could see the team trying to extend him during the season. At the end of the day, the likeliest way to add pitching is to move Dozier in the offseason because Gordon or Vielma can move up to the majors next year. And they can see what's on the FA market in the 3/45 bin.
  13. 2003 LeCroy was slightly better by WAR and 11th out of 18, I think. And it's not irrelevant since I was responding to the other posters insinuation that his OPS were good. They weren't. Different era. Does the 2006 Twins version of Ortiz still get the Boston PEDS?
  14. http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/minnesota-twins-believe-jaylin-davis-worth-waita/#eHjg2Frqgm05VmXr.97 Most of it is behind a paywall. I don't know much about Davis and his numbers aren't great in A ball right now. Apparently he had a shoulder injury of some kind. Can someone fill me in on him a bit more?
  15. Roid era. Compare him to the other DH that got as many PA as he did. His .810 OPS in 2000 was 12th out of 14, 11 out of 17 in 01 and 8 out of 16 in 02. And his WAR, if you want to use it, was just as bad or lower because of his bad baserunning even compared to other DHs. He went to Boston, roided up, failed at least one drug test, used the OJ detective agency to find out how he failed, made millions and is trying to change the narrative of his career by attacking guys like TK.
  16. His fist 15 games - .082/.135/.257 46% k-rate, 3% walk rate. His last 16 games - .265/.357/.388 25% k-rate, 12.5% walk rate. He'll be fine.
  17. Thanks Mike, I'm just reposting it here. Colin 1:50 LaMonte Wade is slashing an impressive .330/.465/.486 in AA with even more impressive plate discipline. Is it still assumed he'll never have the power to be a MLB regular and more of a 4th OF? Eric A Longenhagen 1:51 I wouldn't say "assumed" but that remains the general opinion. You can find scouts who just think he'll hit enough to play a bigger role than that, though. Just not for power. So if Wade can be a solid avg/on-base guy, even with no power, he could be a nice Span-like guy in a corner? Too bad he's a lefty, we could use another RH OF bat.
  18. Have any of the baseball gurus - Klaw, Sickels, Callis, etc - made recent mention of Wade?
  19. Ortiz needs people to think he was a crappy ballplayer until 27 season because TK used him wrong rather than suspect PEDS helped him.
  20. I'm think that, if this is all there is (and there's probably more) Congress will move to censure the president in some way but they won't go as far as impeachment.
  21. A few years ago, some fan made an internet video about how Joe Mauer was stealing signs from the Tigers and showed, as an example, an at-bat against Jason Kubel. It was great and both newspapers covered it and got quotes from the players (they all denied that the Twins steal signs while the Tigers catcher said the Twins were sorta known for that). (The NYTimes ending up reporting on the story, as well. https://bats.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/10/01/joe-mauer-and-tipping-pitches/?_r=0) So that's a long winded way of saying I'm not sure the papers covering this tweet isn't that unusual. It's a story in the middle of May. Seems like a real story to me.
  22. Oh, yeah, totally. And when the prospect guys come out with their mid-season top 100s etc, we'll see a lot. I don't know how other systems are doing. I do know that some major pitchers are scuffling and others are hurt. Most teams have to deal with injuries and set backs. I have no idea how the Twins compare to to others on that right now. It does seem like Stewart and Jay will trend down, Burdi and Romero might go up, Gonsalves, Thorpe etc might depend on how their injuries progress. But the Twins system did have some depth if not a bunch of 1/2 upside pitchers. So, we'll see but I suspect our system isn't quite as barren as some are worried about.
  23. The NBC report on Comey memo really seems to suggest that the GOP is abandoning Trump.
  24. Ignoring how bad Trump is, can you imagine what this is doing to our allies? Apparently we're in a huge "five eye" sharing system. Would Canada or Australia trust us with information right now or do they see us as a funnel of info to Russia? I mean, Australia's CIA equivalent has to be concerned about this to the point where he might be suggesting not sharing stuff with the US, right?
  25. It was mentioned before the season that Gonsalves, Stewart, Jay and Romero were all placed in at least one top 100 list. Thorpe has been in them before his injury as was Burdi. Mejia made a top 100 midseason list, I believe. And, obviously, Berrios just came off his status by a few innings last year. Now the first 6 weeks have been pretty disappointing to almost everyone listed except for Berrios and Burd.
