  1. I linked to two articles about him ...
  2. But there were reports before Marte's release came out that the Twins had something like 3m+ (along with Yankees and I think the Rangers). https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/latest-on-shohei-otani-4.html MLBTraderumors says we have 6m+ https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/twins-void-contract-of-international-signee-jelfry-marte.html
  3. Real bummer. Hope the kid is ok in the long run.
  4. Yeah, I think people are focusing too much on Rortvedt's batting line and not considering the improvements made after that abysmal start and that he was in full season ball already.
  5. Well, nice for him but I still wish we had let him go. Oh well. Hopefully he manages a world series winning team next year!
  6. You don't give away 21 years of control of young talent. It's a huge overpay. Kepler is a good ML player now and Gordon and Romero are top 100 prospects set to contribute next year, if needed. Kiriloff is farther away, of course. You trade those guys to grab a guy whose contract would eat up a third of the teams payroll for the next decade? Not a great idea. The Twins offense isn't the problem. Fix pitching.
  7. Per BA: the top 4 were also in the top 100. 1. Matt Garza, rhp 2. Glen Perkins, lhp 3. Kevin Slowey, rhp 4. Chris Parmelee, of 5. Anthony Swarzak, rhp 6. Pat Neshek, rhp 7. Alexi Casilla, ss/2b 8. Joe Benson, of 9. Paul Kelly, ss 10. J.D. Durbin, rhp Kind of hard to guess where these five guys would fit since we know what happened.
  8. Our peak years - say 2014 and 2015 - are untouchable overall but I would argue that our system depth now, after two really strong drafts is just as good as it ever was. The current top 10 won't be anywhere near those peak top 10s in depth or upside. 11-30, however, could be a wash or even go to the current system. We'll see.
  9. Chatwood at 3/30 would be a deal I'd get behind.
  10. That's a pretty strong group of 5 and I'd probably push four of them into the top 20, myself. We'll see who else is ranked. Jay and Granite are both so close to the majors, I think they should be higher. Granite seems like a decent 4th OF/speed bench guy but b/c he's left handed, he's not a perfect fit for this squad. I'd like to include him in something this offseason when we try and improve our pitching. Jay, if healthy, could really help the pen but, as you said, we've been saying that for years about several minor league arms. We'll see. Stewart is a lighting rod. We'll see how the season goes for him. I still like him. Rortvedt is a guy I'd have five spots higher but that's not really important. He - along with Miranda and Baddoo - were an amazing group of second round picks in 2016. Really enjoy watching those three develop for us.
  11. The Pohlad family isn't taking on that kind of contract nor should the Twins mortgage the future on him. This is a pipe dream. Improve pitching. The offense is good and we have solid prospects coming up.
  12. BA was the low man on the Twins system, I believe Klaw was the high one (having us 11th before the draft). My guess is the system is top 10 now and most write ups this offseason will have us there. The Twins added a lot of talent in the draft and they had a lot of big performances in the low minors from 2016 picks. As to how it compares, guys like Lewis and Gordon would have been ranked in our top 10 regardless of when. Jason Parks at BP famously wrote that the Twins 11-20 in 2014 would have been better than the Angels 1-10. BP gave the Twins 8 guys in the top 101 both years (Gordon was one of them). Right now, the Twins probably have 4 consensus top 100 guys (Gordon, Lewis, Romero and Gonsalves) with a few others making some lists (Sickels will probably have Rooker in his top 100, Baddoo probably makes Klaw and/or fangraphs list). But the 2014-15 system certainly has the advantages of being both top heavy and deeper. Only Lewis might end up in the Sano, Buxton, Berrios elite rankings. But Gordon is in that second tier where guys like Meyer, Kepler and occasionally Stewart were ranked. Romero and Gonsalves would have made the backend of those top tens instead of the front end. On the other hand, our 11-30 might be more or less even with the group back then (depending on who is in that group). Right now, guys like Baddoo, Thorpe, Miranda, Rortvedt, Graterol, Littell, Enlow, Marte are outside it. Some will slip into most top 10s as the offseason lists come out but others won't. So the current system has some sneaky good depth.
  13. The issue of selling at the deadline rides on one question - were the Twins contenders for the playoffs this year? The answer was yes. The new, smart FO didn't know that. The trades themselves look ok enough but it's not like we received anything overly great back. So we punted on a winnable season and that was only salvaged by the players who won despite the lack of resources from the FO. I don't know much about social media but it seems quite small to attack the tweeter in question as much as you did. Perhaps there is more to it than what you published on TD but his tweet wasn't mind bending.
  14. Sounds like the Reds want a big return for him - https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/twins-interested-in-raisel-iglesias.html. Probably want a couple top 100 prospects back, I'd imagine.
  15. I think we'll have to use most of our money on pitching. If Sano can't go at third everyday, we'll use Escobar behind him. Maybe we could find another RH 4th OFer over Granite through a minor trade.
  16. Hey, Santana outperformed Servino in the WC game, at least!
  17. I certainly think both Mussina and Morris could be in the HOF (I'm a big hall guy). Glavine in before Moose isn't a huge problem when you consider all the extra innings he threw. For his career, Moose threw about 3500 innings w/123 ERA+ over 18 seasons. From 91-06, Glavine threw 3500 innings w/127 ERA+. He then threw another 900 or so innings (not counting the 200+ postseason innings). Rate stats are good but they have limits. One thing that is very hard for pitchers to do is be top 10 in both ERA+ and IP in the same year. You throw that many innings, your rate stats drop. Glavine managed that 9 times. Moose 7x. Pedro 5x. Schilling 6x. Smoltz 4x. Morris 3x.
  18. God, that's horrible.
  19. Jax should be off the list completely. I'd put several relief arms ahead of Rodriquez. I like Bechtold a lot b/c it looks like he can take a walk. Mid 20s, for now, seems about right but I could really see him jumping up the lists next year. I've mentioned this before but I have a friend who is an international scout for the Royals and he really liked Whitefield. He even posted some Whitefield video on his facebook account after he signed with the Twins. He's a fan. He says he's raw but already further along than he thought he'd be. He thinks he'll make the majors. Marte is exciting. Very far away, of course, but nice ceiling. Glad he's in our system.
  20. Well, that would be something. Heyman's one of the better reporters in baseball so that's exciting, I guess? I'm still worried about how a 6yr deal for Darvish would impact our ability to keep our young core but that's a different time/issue.
  21. I'm not going to argue every point. Some are very valid. But some also don't reflect the time he pitched. By today's standards, he wasn't a strike out pitcher but you're underestimating him. He led the league in strikeouts once and was top ten 8 times. He has more seasons than Johan Santana in the top ten for both strike outs in a season and k/9 in a season. Obviously, Santana was a relief pitcher for a while and Santana was the premier strike out pitcher for a while there but Morris wasn't just trudging along. When he pitched a full season, he was a strike out pitcher. Only 33 pitchers have struck out more hitters than Morris and he was 21st all time when he retired.
  22. Maybe, maybe not. It's not like the GOP ignored red meat issues in Virginia. They went full Trump but the Dems wave was huge.
