  1. Cole and Stroman I'd do Gordon, Romero and Thorpe. Archer would cost more than that and I wouldn't do that. Stroman probably costs more than Cole but I'm not sure. Straily and Odrozzi aren't that good. Maybe Romero and a guy like Wade. Basically, one top 100 guy and another piece. I don't know enough about the relief pitcher arms but I don't think I'd do Gordon and Romero for a reliever. Maybe one top 100 guy. I'd rather spend the cash on Shaw, for example.
  2. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/yu-darvish-shohei-ohtani-among-priorities-for-twins.html#comments I mean, I have no doubt that this doesn't happen but our GM is talking about it so maybe I'm wrong. Good hot stove if nothing else.
  3. Nah. When I was younger, I remember hating any columnist who said anything bad about any team/player I followed no matter what they did. Reusse could be harsh but I don't think he was ever unfair which is a big distinction. Plus he truly loves baseball and has always been willing to attack greedy owners.
  4. Not saying it was right, just forgot that Rivera was ahead of him. And WAR ain't a great stat (I mean, all stats show that Santana was better).
  5. Actually, I think they are operating very similar to the old FO. Payroll remains low. They are diving in the same cheap FA relief bins. They won't bid for the big contracts. They've traded guys about to leave in FA. They are making rule v picks. etc, etc. What we have to hope for is that they do these things better.
  6. Rogers sorta reminds me of Matt Guerrier in some ways. He can be a valuable part of the pen. Probably not your best piece but effective.
  7. Good idea. Really like Baddoo, too.
  8. I really like this group. Thorpe and LIttell can both be ML starters and might have some ceiling too. Wade is a guy I really like as a possible trade chip since we have so many lefties. But his on-base skills are legit so he could be a second piece in a trade. I want to see Garver play but it seems Molly doesn't trust him. It'll be interesting to see how the team uses him next year. Only Diaz is far away but he has some potential. We'll see with him.
  9. While some of our bullpen arms haven't made it some still look pretty exciting and some have already made it. The names aren't who we might have guessed but Hildy and Rogers look like legit pieces. Curtiss and Jay should be part of the pen this year. Jay could be special.
  10. Twins related guesses - Phil Hughes, Levine for trading away at the deadline instead of adding Non Twins related - Gophers HC Fleck, Atlanta's former GM Coppy, Trump, Jerry Jones/Roger Goddell
  11. Actually, he's gotten quite a few guys out in AA. In 32 starts at age 21 and 22 he's gone 14-12 with a 3.51 era in 169 ip. But 89 walks against 99 strike outs and 19 wild pitches so control is a big problem. I would have protected him since he's only 22 and made a spot start in AAA already. We'll see what happens.
  12. The pen comments didn't surprise me at all. The Twins are still a small market team and they aren't going to give a guy like Davis a huge deal. There are enough arms on the market that they can improve the pen without going over 110m payroll or so.
  13. Dude, you'll go crazy if you think of the things you should have bought. Just have a solid longterm plan. Fund your IRAs every year, if your employer gives you a matching 401k, max it out. Make sure you have some safe stocks and/or index funds as part of your portfolio.* Speaking of safe and boring, my wife added $5500 of Microsoft to her IRA yesterday. * Not an investment professional, just some idiot on a baseball website.
  14. Yeah, I think Vizquel sticks around on the ballot for a decade but doesn't get in. Sorta the Lee Smith of middle infielders. He was very good though and I think that's being forgot because of his really bad power. He got on base nearly 4000 times (one less than Tony Gwynn) while playing the most games ever at short. He certainly wouldn't be the worst HOFer but I don't think he gets in.
  15. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/twins-trade-rumors-gerrit-cole-pirates-jake-odorizzi-rays.html Not really a surprise. Not sure how interested Pitt is in moving Cole but Rays probably want out of Odorizzi. The report also says Twins aren't looking at the biggest names in the relief pitcher market which is also not really a surprise.
  16. He'll start either in AA for us or in another teams bullpen. How he does from there is up to him. I hope he can put it all together.
  17. Didn't the Padres carry four catchers for a while last season? I'm positive they did.
  18. Holy crap, I keep looking and it keeps getting worse for Atlanta. Looks like the final tally is twelve (12!) players are now free agents. They also have severe limitations on international spending the next two years and they lose a third round pick in the next draft. They also already had a deal in place to sign a 14 year old in a couple years but that's been quashed. Geez, I'm really hoping we hear what the actual violations were because this is gigantic. They are losing over 15m (maybe 20m) in signed talent from just a few years ago. These guys are still 17 and 18 year olds. https://www.talkingchop.com/2017/11/21/16687146/atlanta-braves-will-lose-12-prospects-and-have-severe-signing-restrictions-for-2-years-per-report "The six known players are Kevin Maitan, Abrahan Gutierrez, Livan Soto, Yefri del Rosario, Yunior Severino, and Juan Contreras." Several of these guys have had impressive seasons in short season ball already. We haven't heard who the other six are yet. The Twins are in pretty good shape to nab a few of these guys if they want to. Oh, MLB permanently banned Atlanta's former GM.
  19. Yeah, I'm not opposed to him but it's unlikely that the Twins will spend the money there instead of on pitching.
  20. Wow, this really is a hammer. So far they've lost their four biggest signings from 16-17 year. Kevin Maitan (top 100 before the year), Abrahan Gutierrez, Juan Contreras and Yunior Severino. They are all young but Gutierrez (a catcher) and Severino (a shortstop) had decent seasons for their age. Maitan fell a bit after a rough year and reports of his body changing in a bad way. Sickels had him 14 on his Atlanta list. https://www.baseballamerica.com/international/mlb-removing-prospects-braves/#VJTETtzasGW2pCmR.97 https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/braves-will-forfeit-rights-to-prospect-kevin-maitan.html#comments
  21. Yes, he does. And he should.
  22. Heyman reporting that Maitan will be a international free agent. I'd love the Twins to sign him. More will be freed from Atlanta as well.
  23. Gad, I wish they'd get on with it already. Assuming Bowman is right and they'll lose many of their signings over the last two years, who are the big signings they've made that might be available?
  24. Killebrew took three ballots. That's my guess for Thome.
  25. I think the Twins did a good job of building up Santana in 02 and 03 before making him a fulltime starter in 04. He had only pitched 130 innings combined in 00 and 01 so he threw back to back 160ip seasons before 04. What I always forget is that he didn't come in second that year to Colon. Rivera was second.
