  1. Leave the roster size alone, or maybe expand by one. Put no restrictions on positions. Heck, let 15 man staffs evolve. If reducing the bullpen and expanding the bench is really an advantage, let some smart GM/manager use it to their advantage. Let "market inefficiencies" resolve the issue. Let baseball be baseball. The last thing I want to see is baseball become more like football, with offense, defense, special teams, nickel packages, etc etc ad nauseam.
  2. Platooning has become very difficult with the ever expanding pitching staffs, no doubt. But at least for a position or two, not impossible. Every team will carry at least 4 outfielders, there's no reason a GM can't set it up so a platoon advantage exists for his weakest offensive outfielder. Every team carries two catchers, and a spare infielder. Same deal. Of course, the manager has to take advantage of his roster...
  3. Berrios for sure, May IF he's a starter. May will be on the 25 man one way or another, but not necessarily in a starter spot.
  4. In my case, I'm happy they haven't given Dozier away, while still pretty disappointed overall at the lack of attempts to improve the team for 2017 and beyond.
  5. So is caving on a trade and getting no value in return.
  6. That, to me, is one of the key issues here. I suspect the reason the Dodgers would be willing to part with De Leon is because ultimately they don't view him as particularly valuable. They're trying to max out his value while they still can.
  7. I think it makes all the sense in the world. Adding a free agent, for example, costs only money. Adding a starter by trading your best player costs your best player. And in this specific case, they aren't even adding a starter, they're adding the potential for one starter. Everyone wants the Twins to get better. Some of us just think if you're trading away your best player, there aught to be a real chance your team is better, and soon.
  8. I guess a PTBNL might be workable. But if the Twins accept cash as any part of a deal for Dozier, I'm heading down to 1 Twins Way with molotov cocktails.
  9. With all due respect...you don't have a point. If you are taking out Dozier's best year, then take out his competition's best year as well.
  10. It's only a start, but the recruiting class rating jumped 20 spots in 36 hours. One of the reasons I wanted Claeys fired was the awful recruiting. I'm very hopeful Fleck, over the course of a couple years, is able to recruit at least in the upper half of the B1G.
  11. I recognize Falvey and Levine, but who's the girl?
  12. I kind of liked it. "Over the top" is too mild, but it seemed genuine to me.
  13. He's building a wall, and Wisconsin is paying for it!
  14. Fleck may or may not work out, it's always hard to tell in advance, but this is a home run hire. As much crap as Coyle has gotten in recent weeks, this was a demonstration of how a B1G level AD works. No "committee," no settling, no questions. He obviously knew ahead of time who was available and interested, and went out and got him. Immediately. Despite the serious issues currently surrounding the program. Well done. EDIT: and I concur with NIck...Fleck is nothing like Brewster.
  15. I disagree strongly with sentences 1 and 2. Very strongly. I'm not sure what you mean by sentence 3.
  16. Sounds like Fleck. IMO that's the best possible outcome. I hope in 4 years or so we're terrified he's leaving.
  17. "...a bullpen with too many pitchers who can't function unless used optimally becomes unnecessarily hard to manage." That's an excellent point. Having a LOOGY in the pen is OK, even a valuable weapon if used properly. More than one starts to become a liability, particularly when starters in general--and forthe Twins in particular--provide fewer and fewer innings. This is made worse for the Twins when they also feature RH relievers who struggle against LH hitters. Molitor is part of the problem, but what the Twins really need in the pen is fewer questions and better talent.
  18. Not to mention half of Dozier's HRs in 2016 came on the road.
  19. Concur.
  20. To what end? I don't understand the antagonism toward college sports. It doesn't cost taxpayer money. Don't watch it if you don't like it. Why campaign to deny others?
  21. Concur, except I'm with them on wanting a new coach.
  22. Trading Dozier for De Leon leaves you with one extra iffy starter, with an innings limit to boot, and Escobar at shortstop.
