Well, with two out, you're banking on a mishandle or off line throw. Not the worst third base decision I've ever seen, and with two outs I'm in favor of being very aggressive. That, perhaps, was too aggressive.
As I recall it, Chief traditionally posts "winnah" after, uh, a win. Somehow, someone naturally took that a step further to "chicken dinner." And the rest is history.
You could see on TV Buxton wasn't calling the ball. And he needs to call it, to avoid just what happened. Basic baseball stuff, for some reason Buxton didn't do.
That's completely unfair. Lots of managers find a way to limit their LOOGYs exposure to RH hitters in high leverage situations. You've never seen a team have more than one reliever up in the pen? Make more than one pitching change in an inning?
