    The Twins will not get a return that will be better in 2019 than Gibson. I’m 99 percent confident in that. I want the Twins to do everything in their power to compete not later than 2019. So I don’t care if some team offers a top prospect. That guy will be in A ball, or lower, and I’m not interested.

    it means another season of failure. I hate that. Hate it. So no, I'm not going to celebrate a failed season, no matter what they might acquire by trading players. I want to watch a meaningful game this afternoon. Care about winning or losing. That's why I watch. I wish they had won these two games in KC. Today would be more interesting. Some A ball hope and prayer in Return for Dozier means nothing to me. Zero. Less than zero.

    He drove in a run in the bottom of the 7th with the Twins down 2-4. Rosario also came around to score on the play after an error to tie the game.

    Extending Escobar now would be the definition of buying high. He wont be any more expensive this winter, and probably less. Or you can QO him if you really feel he's necessary next year. He's had a great first half, but he isnt this good.

    I understand the concept of platooning. True platoons were a great way to squeeze production out of a position back when pitching staffs were 10 or 11. True platoons are virtually nonexistent these days. If you see one it's probably at an outfield spot, where teams carry an extra player anyway. I stand by my opinion it's tough to carry a part time 1st baseman, particularly when you're not getting all that much from him when he does play.

    We were specifically talking about 2019-2020, no? Six years of control isn't part of the conversation. So no, I don't expect either of those two to be leading the Twins to postseason glory in 2019-2020. Beyond that, who knows, but by then there will be other prospects for folks here to salivate over. And for the record, I have never advocated dealing both Lewis and Romero for Realmuto. One or the other, although I'd be reluctant to deal Lewis. I don't think it takes that much.

    IMO if Sano and Buxton are busts, it's going to be extremely difficult for the Twins to contend in the next few years. So you might as well operate as if they will develop into stars, because you're not hurting yourself if they don't*, and you need to help yourself if they do. *The prospects used to acquire Realmuto won't be leading the Twins to glory in 2019-2010 anyway. And you can probably restock at the deadline in 2020 by trading Realmuto if necessary. I'd be much more upset with the front office if they let the team squander a chance with Buxton/Sano/Berrios/et al than I would be if they made trades that ultimately didn't get them were we all want them to go.

    If "Joe wants to play" when he's 60, should the Twins still offer him a contract? If the FO thinks he'll help them win, sign him. If it's anything else, don't sign him. There's no room for sentiment or nostalgia on a 25 man MLB roster. If you want to win, at least.

    No, it’s really not. Find us two examples. First basemen who play no other position and get a couple days off per week.

    Just have a fifth ump in the press box who decides what and when to review what and when. I thought the idea was to get the call right.

    My point, which you missed, is that with 12 and 13 man pitching staffs, it's very difficult to carry a part time first baseman who plays no other position. The rest of your post is nice, but his 2009 MVP has nothing to do with winning games in 2019. And for the record, I disagree he signed for less than market value, but again, that's irrelevant to 2019.
