  1. You'll just have to trust me on this one...plan for the future, and start collecting adult-large.
  2. Not to mention, the deal as reported was Graterol to the Dodgers for Maeda. Technically, if that's true, the Dodgers would have to be the one to object to medicals, no? The Red Sox' beef is with the Dodgers, from whom they're getting Graterol.
  3. I think it's just the opposite. Teams don't see "medicals" or schedule physicals until trade parameters are agreed to. That's why we often see "pending physical" when we learn of trades on MLBTradeRumors. And it's why, to the best of my knowledge, this trade was never formally announced by any of the three teams involved. It was reported widely in the media, but by none of the teams. And again...the simplest explanation is, when Boston did see the medicals, they didn't like what they saw. No PR considerations, no conspiracies, no attempts to squeeze more from the Twins. They just don't like his chances of being a full time MLB reliever. My guess is the shoulder is the problem, not the elbow, but that's pure speculation.
  4. Could it be the simplest explanation? The RS looked at Graterol's medical history and didn't like what they see? Sheesh.
  5. I would expect the four pitches to be: "Fly Delta to Tokyo." "When Miyumi and I celebrate another Twins win, we always dine at Sven And Ole's All-you-can-eat Lutefisk, Lefse, and Sushi Buffet!" "Sheboygan Brats!" and "Like Joe Mauer-san, I drink Kemps!"
  6. An admirable pivot from failure, to be sure.
  7. you cant just isolate Ryu + Graterol, which was your point. I'd probably have preferred Ryu, too, but these things dont happen in a vacuum. If they'd signed Ryu, Donaldson doesnt happen.
  8. Moving from one league to another just isnt very significant. Average ERA difference between leagues is down to around 1/5 of a run. What matters is the quality of pitcher, not which league.
  9. Feeling better about the rotation, but not convinced the bullpen is good enough, or deep enough, to be an asset. The everyday lineup is tough, and very deep. And there's some depth on the bench.
  10. I'm just full of thoughts tonight, here's one more: This is not Terry Ryan at the helm anymore.
  11. I will say, I never really bought into the "Twins pen is really good" theory that is accepted around here, and taking Graterol out of that mix is disappointing. I'm a big believer that a strong and deep bullpen is way more valuable than the sum of it's parts. "Just a reliever" is a little overblown, IMO. Consistently owning the final three or four innings wins a lot of games. Still...I will say this is a good trade. That it has me conflicted probably means its fair, as others have pointed out.
  12. Further proof, along with Bailey, Hill, and Chacin that the front office isn't too enamored with trusting a rotation spot to any of Dobnak, Thorpe, or Smeltzer for anything other than emergencies. An opinion I share, for the record.

  14. Big arm to give up, but the Twins were still in need of starting pitching. 4 years of control. I think I come down in favor of this deal. At the least, gotta give Falvine credit for courage. This is all part of the cost of not getting one of the top FA starters.
  15. Mrs Chief, a couple minutes into the halftime show: "I think I'd rather watch Carole Channing."
  16. Worst. Halftime. Show. Ever. Book it.
  17. There was never a time when throwing at someone's head was common or acceptable. By the way, by "the opposite is true," I take it to mean you believe YOUR generation is superior?
  18. Concur. https://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2016/02/26/report-post-recession-cleveland-is-in-worse-economic-shape-than-detroit-or-anywhere-else
  19. New Ulm says they already have Terry Steinbach Strasse, danke.
