It's worse than you think. The Twins didn't trade Ortiz to Boston.

Twins Take Two K’s On Same Day
USAFChief replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It seems inconceivable to me, if Kirilloff was having wrist issues, that Twins management could watch him through a month of spring training...thousands of swings...and just now learn his wrist wasn't fully healed. Have him IN THE ORIGINAL LINEUP THE DAY HE HITS THE IL. That's either BS, or we have issues with the major league coaching staff. A hitting coach that can watch a hitter in the cage and in games for over a month and not notice...yeesh. -
15 Things More Pleasant than this Twins/Dodgers Series
USAFChief replied to renabanena's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
On my list: -Root canal sans novocaine -any NBA game -walking barefoot through the Sonoran Desert in July, blindfolded -hanging decor on the walls for Mrs Chief -doing my tax returns -repainting the already repainted guest bathroom yet again -
They have Larnach and Celestino. Neither Martin or Lewis are realistic options now or any time soon, and I'm pretty sure Miranda hasn't played an inning of outfield in his MiLB career.

Game Score: Dodgers 7, Twins 0
USAFChief replied to Thiéres Rabelo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Valid. The question in my mind is, "why would Correa need a day off 6 days into the season?" I would suspect there's a minor injury there. Hope not.- 42 replies

If anyone is still trying to fool themselves into believing the Twins can contend this season, a RH hitting OFer is a no brainer. Whether Upton is that OFer isn't easily answered, but it's worth a shot. The better question is why this FO didn't try to address this question previously.

Why would a team do something like that? Make that kind of decision 5 days in advance. It's arrogance or ignorance to believe this "piggyback" idea has any chance of working out over the course of once through the rotation, much less a month or a season. It's managing by spreadsheet. I hate the idea.

I thought Archer looked very good. Certainly the best of the 5 starters so far. His command and velo were both pleasant surprises to me, and the slider was way better than I expected. It wasn't a perfect debut, but I'd take that level of performance from Archer every time out.

How Confident Are We in the Twins Relievers?
USAFChief replied to Andrew Mahlke's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This bullpen is weak and thin. Ill equipped to withstand the long season, or short exposure to good lineups. I refuse to buy into the notion that you can build a strong pen from cast-offs, retreads, and waiver wire fodder. Or that "throw a bunch of stuff against the wall and figure it out by July" is a viable strategy. Very little chance this pen is contender worthy.- 20 replies

Small differences often show up over time. Such as navigating through a better lineup multiple times. Or consistently bringing in the lesser reliever.

3 Things to Look for in Dylan Bundy's Twins' Debut

He certainly got good results. I hope that continues, but don't confuse good results with good "stuff." -

Late to the party but: 1) I don't consider Sano getting thrown out at home on a 2 out double to be a mistake. I think it's common to send the runner in similar situations, as I believe there's a better chance he scores than there is he scores later if he doesn't go. Pretty confident most MLB 3b coaches send him there. 2) in contrast, with no outs, 2nd and third, I'm skeptical the contact play was called when Kirillof got thrown out at home on the infield grounder. It would be unusual to have that play on with no outs. Also, the trail runner (Buxton) didn't advance, which he normally would, even on a ground ball to the left side...thats kind the point of the contact play. I'm inclined to think that was a missed sign by Kirilloff.

3 Things to Look for in Dylan Bundy's Twins' Debut
USAFChief replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Pfft big deal. I had no second date with something like 40 or 50 girls in a row. IIRC, many of them considered transferring schools too. -
So... Why Trade Taylor Rogers?
USAFChief replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Except that wasn't the trade. You're leaving out the 24 yr old catcher, with 5 years of team control and 27 year old SS with 2 years of control that the Twins traded. You're also leaving out Urshela is 30, Sanchez 29 and a free agent this winter. You seem to use "years of control " and age only when it suits your purpose.- 89 replies

So... Why Trade Taylor Rogers?

I'm sorry, but that doesn't make sense. You'd trade for Manaea then, not deplete your 2022 bullpen.- 89 replies

So... Why Trade Taylor Rogers?
USAFChief replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
But that's not this "asset management" claptrap. It's assembling the best team possible by getting the best players possible, for the current year. They didn't view Maeda as "value" due to being a starter "with team control." They viewed Graterol as the better asset because a shutdown reliever means more. Kimbrel is more of the same. They want the guy with more impact on Ws and Ls. They're not playing for "rotation depth" in 2024.- 89 replies

So... Why Trade Taylor Rogers?
USAFChief replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
They're serious about contending. They don't make this trade. And they sure as **** don't do "asset management." They collect the best possible players they can, each and every year. Did they trade the expiring contract of Kenley Jansen last spring?- 89 replies

So... Why Trade Taylor Rogers?
USAFChief replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
When I'm holding pocket aces and you're holding 5-7 off preflop, our odds are not the same. Not even close. That's a terrible analogy, as you don't know the flop before it happens. (And you won't see the flop anyway. You'll have folded to my raise.) And the Dodgers, Twins, and Pitates don't have equal "preflop" Odds either. They're not each "1 in 30." The Twins might end up outflopping the ALC or WC teams, but their odds are long and got a little longer by trading Rogers.- 89 replies
