    Because there aren't "a half dozen players they could call up from AAA" that could play a decent corner OF and not be a black hole against LH pitching? Garlic maybe? Just spitballin' here.

    Maybe so, but that still wouldn't be a "trade deadline deal" IMO. As for Floro, he appears to me less talented than Lopez, but more predictable. Higher floor, lower ceiling. I lost all patience with Lopez, so I don't mind the swap at all. But we're not getting any kind of dominant reliever here, which Lopez could be and sometimes was. We're also not getting the unusable guy that Lopez could be, and sometimes was.

    I think the point is, swapping MLB players isn't really a "deadline deal" to add to a team. Lopez for Floro was a deal done near the deadline, but doesn't qualify as what would generally be considered a "deadline deal." It neither added MLB talent to a team trying to improve for the stretch drive at the expense of MiLB talent, nor added MiLB talent at the expense of current MLB player(s).

    1. Franchise altering? 140 MLB PAs between the 3 of them. Jenkins has what? A couple dozen professional ABs? They haven't even altered the minor leagues. BTW, Kirilloff was drafted under the previous regime. 2. Carlos Correa and?

    Hats off to Maeda-san. He's really given the Twins a lift since coming off the IL.

    Sands was active from May 13 through June 4. He got 8.1 innings. He then went on the DL, back active July 5 through 28. 3 appearances, 1.2 IP. One. Point. Two. During that stretch the Twins went 8-12 and the pen was stretched thinner than thin. He didn't help "save the rest of the pen." In the least. Nobody, including Baldelli, wants him in any game that hasn't been decided. Emergency or mop up only. He doesnt give them "flexibility and depth." A warm body isn't depth. He wastes a roster spot.

    Cole Sands effectively makes the 26 man roster 25. The object is to win games. Roster filler doesn't win baseball games. Has Sands had any actual impact on the 2023 MN Twins?

    I know what the article was about...a possible, and quite plausible IMO, reason for no deadline additions. What data would there be supporting or refuting this speculation? Would you expect to see Falvey say "Yeah, we're tapped out. No more dinero."? Because as we both believe, there's holes in the roster. So why zero attempt to fix any of them?

    It's a very plausible theory. I don't believe the front office thought they didn't need help. At least I hope they are smarter than that. So why didn't they get some? Costs weren't outrageous for the players moved.

    Mancini's 2023 MLB OPS is .001 better than Luplow's 2022 MLB OPS. Neither are very good, But I'd rather have Mancini.

    There's 2 months left in the season. Options are next to meaningless at this point. They're only 2.5 games in front. It's about what they think gives them thebl best shot at winning the division.

    I certainly had...have...higher hopes for Ryan than "back of the rotation" starter. And if that's what he ends up, that's not "a good thing." For one thing, nobody should ever want a "back of the rotation: starter even IN their rotation.

A little over 2 per week. 1 per series. 18 RBI. With 10 of those coming on HRs. That's right...8 RBI of other players in 3 months. Half a season. 92 Ks in 175 ABs. Yes, that's correct. Over half a season, more than half his ABs ended in a strikeout. That's the best player for the job, inside or outside the org??

    Not getting bullpen help is a failure to execute their job. Plain and simple. There's no excuse, no logic. Help was traded. At reasonable prices. We have obvious weakness in the pen. There are no realistic internal options. Complete. Failure.

    What? He gets credit for a fly ball now? They pinch hit for him with runners on 2nd and 3rd, one out... with a RHer on the mound. And it's not the first time they've done it. Think about that. By the way, Jeffers and the St Loius SS led to the 1st run.
