    I agree he's not a good 2nd baseman, but I think he would be even worse at 1st because he'd handle the ball so much more. You'd add another x number of ground balls not turned into outs. If he's actually this hitter then I'd live with his defense at 2nd. But that's just like, my opinion, man.

    From where I sit on my Ekornes stressless recliner he has bad hands, which manifest themselves in catching baseballs no matter how they originate. Obviously catching a line drive, whether from a bat or an arm is way easier than catching balls bouncing, but not all throws to a first baseman are chest high on a line. Maybe I'm over reacting, but he just looks to me like a miss waiting to happen. Also maybe he can improve, but IMO that's unlikely. A guy with soft hands can learn to field grounders. A guy with a good but inaccurate arm can learn to throw. But bad hands...those are tough to fix.

    Let's see if Sonny Gray can match Lopez. My guess is that's the better opportunity. Doubt we're knocking around another lefty. Happy to be wrong though.

    They're tradeable if playing well, but then you're likely not trading them.

    If you exercise the option, you need to find someone willing to take on that salary in order to trade. "If it comes down to it" implies they're not playing well, in which case, good luck. $10m isn't easy for any team to absorb. Even big market teams.

    I just don't see Julien at 1st. Stone hands there is worse than at 2nd. A 1st baseman doesn't have to be mobile, but needs to have a soft glove. That ain't Julien. None of the rest are threats to open 2024 penciled into the lineup. My guess is it's Kirilloff's position to lose.

    Off topic, but as of today I'd make it 80-20 against Polanco being a 2024 MN Twin. Unlike the OF, they actually do have a glut of infield options by next year. I think they'll live with Julien's defense, with Lee in the wings and Farmer on the bench as insurance.

    I'd say it's 80-20 he's a MN Twin on opening day 2024. The "excess" in the OF, which is somewhat exaggerated, will evaporate. Gallo will be gone for sure, I doubt they resign Taylor, Gordon might not even be a Twin and shouldn't be a starting OFer if he is. Larnach hasn't earned any kind of playing time. There are no outfielders in the minors beating down the door. At this point for 2024, you've probably got Wallner, and hope that Buxton can somehow play CF. And Wallner has proven nothing yet, although it's easy to like what he's shown to date. A free agent right fielder, better than Kepler and/or cheaper? Here's the list https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/free-agents/outfield/ Not very inspiring. On second thought, Make it 90-10 Kepler's in RF on opening day for the Twins.

    Polanco isn't a good defender, agreed. But he's orders of magnitude better than Julien. Watch one series. Julien has some godawful hands.
