  1. From some old geezer in the "slow start" thread: It'd be nice if the starters were prepared to start the season, for one thing. Three series, only one starter has thrown a pitch in the 6th inning. Only one start that even reached 90 pitches. April is not supposed to be a continuation of spring training. They (and most of baseball, to be fair) continues to ask less and less of starters. And, low and behold, they get exactly that. Less and less.
  2. Guy who can be depended on to pitch multiple innings effectively are unicorns. Generally they're called starters. And if you DO have one, they're unavailable for.several days at a time after you use them once. They TRIED McCaughan yesterday. He couldn't get through even an inning. Because "long relievers" are a good idea that mostly don't exist.
  3. Of course they can. MANY managers give the 9th to one guy, every time, provided he is available. Duran was available. He pitched, ferpetesakes. There was NO reason to switch roles for Jax and Duran. There are documented reasons NOT to needlessly switch. The only thing at play here is Rocco's endless need to prove he's the smartest guy in the room. And if he actually made this decision because he planned for Duran's possible failure? Good lord that's an even worse example of overthinking.
  4. People discuss player's shortcomings every game. And players who have good games. Every day. But it's generally different players each game. Nobody gets 3 hits every day, or makes game changing errors every day. No pitcher gets everyone out every time they pitch. And there are talent limitations that limit player performance But a manager doing the same things day after day after day? Making the.same flawed decisions? It took till THIS YEAR of Rocco's managing career for him to expect players to take BP. Taking infield is STILL optional. Why wouldn't that management get called out every day, when its shown to be flawed every day?

  6. All of 'em!! Have we not learned ANYthing about Lake Woebegon's children?
  7. Brooks Lee starts a rehab in Ft Myers today, per Falvey. Nothing much in the way of good news elsewhere.

  9. I considered Dozier as well
  10. The pitcher of record when the Twins took the lead was Ober. He can't get awarded a W (needs to go 5). At that point, it's up to the discretion of the storekeeper. They'll often give the W to whoever pitched "most effectively." An argument can be made that was Sands.
  11. One of the greatest pictures in baseball history.
  12. .174? That can't be right, can it? Sounds way high.
  13. Fun fact: Houston's pitcher today is the son of former NYY pitcher Dave Arrighetti.
  14. OP: "One of the lone bright spots on the day was Harrison Bader’s defense in left field" Wow. The run Off Varland was directly due to ****** defense by Bader. He got a terrible jump on a shallow fky ball that should have been caught, then made an ill advised dive that missed by several feet and turned rhat bloop single into a bloop double. That runner then scored on a single. While Im at it, the 3rd and 4th runs dont score without the balk. As noted in the game thread, these fundamental mistakes are all too commonplace, and prove too much for a weak offense to overcome. Way too often.
  15. You, me, Aggies, TFINJ, SSOO, Danchat, Hitter's count, shortround, Brock, Linus, Jocko...
